We heard this was the spot to rent downhill bikes - the hype was justified! The team here gets all your personal stats to adjust the bikes to suit you and your riding style (suspension, reach, and chainstays on the V10) so everything is ready to go when you pick them up. Our bikes were current generation Santa Cruz V10s. They came equipped with Fox 40 & rear coil, SRAM X0 drivetrain, Maven brakes, and Assegai/DHR tires with proper DH casings. The bikes were absolutely dialed and we had a blast riding everything from A-Line to double black tech with them. I've been on rental bikes in the past that were clapped and had soft brakes or wonky derailleurs - that was not the situation here at all. The crew was helpful making some last minute adjustments and locked the bikes up so we could sit down for lunch somewhere. One of the crew (maybe the owner?) also had some great recs for taking our bikes out in Whistler Valley on one of the days we weren't riding the park. There are a plethora of bike shops around the Whistler area, and when you search online, this is one of the more recommended shops due to it being one of the few local, independent shops still around. I'm all for supporting local, but this shop has proved why large conglomerates are able to take over areas so easily. Being a small, independent shop doesn't mean you can get away with providing shoddy services and rude attitudes to your customers, as this place does. I rented a V10 here to ride at the bike park earlier in the summer, and I thought I was being pranked with how poorly tuned the bike was for my weight and size. It's as if they tuned it for a 300+ lb bodybuilder. I inputted my weight (140lbs) and height on the registration sheet, and it seemed to be completely ignored. I get that bike parks are extremely rough on the bikes, but practically maxing out the suspension and tire pressure will do nothing but provide an extremely poor rider experience and also risk injury. Maybe that's the strategy: wear out the riders by practically giving them no suspension so they ride less, resulting in less wear and tear on the bike? I consider myself an advanced rider, and as I did my first run down Crank It Up, I couldn't help but wonder if riding down cobblestones in Paris Roubaix on a tireless road bike would've offered a smoother experience as I was getting absolutely beaten to shreds on the bike. My buddy, a former bike shop mechanic, tinkered around with the tire pressure and so on before we brought it back to the shop to get the bike further adjusted. We were introduced to the presumably lead mechanic, the older Australian gentleman. As we explained the situation and what we did, he began to talk down to us for tinkering with the bike because we could have done some irreparable damage. I get that there are people who foolishly think they know more than they do, but I can't even wrap my head around how much damage we could have done taking air out of the tire or adjusting the compression on the fork. We had a four-day rental and brought the bike back four times within the first two days (not including the returns where we voiced our thoughts) with the same exact complaint before the Australian mechanic seemed fed up with us and decided to check out the suspension, only for them to realize that the bike had a completely damaged suspension and that it needed to be replaced. When you're paying more than $200 a day for a rental, you expect some level of service and functionality from the tool that you're using. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. Despite all of the "adjustments" that were made, I felt like I was cosplaying as a first-day jackhammer operator riding that bike. My forearms and hands were absolutely beat because of the lack of a working suspension system, and I was mentally drained from the dread I endured knowing I would have to go back to the shop each time for adjustments and endure a condescending interaction with the mechanic. I'm sure the bike shop deals with beginners all the time who have a hard time conveying their experiences or blame the bike for their fatigue when, in reality, it is the physical nature of the sport. However, I ride multiple times a week, have no issues riding some of the more technical parts of the mountain, and conveyed this information to the bike shop, expecting them to be a bit more sympathetic and provide even a baseline level of customer service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There were several other bike shops that my buddy and I stopped by within the Whistler Village that treated us better than Evolution, despite them being conglomerate-owned. I'm all for supporting local, but I can't in good conscience recommend this place, especially to beginners. With the way they set their bikes up, someone can seriously get injured or worse. If you receive even double the service I did, you'd leave disappointed and feel like your money was wasted. This bike shop is sadly an extremely poor steward of the sport and strongly highlights the negative, pompous attitude of biking culture. read more

Absolute legends here. They're the best shop to do business with in Whist by far, and also just one of the most overall rad shops I've ever worked with/been in. I flew in to Whistler and this was my first time using a bike bag to fly with, knowing I was about to be sending the bike park and some gnarly trails in town I wanted a professional shop to build the bike up and look over everything. These guys got me worked in and built, and tuned my bike on a same day turn around and made sure my bike was perfect. Also very hospitable, very polite and great energy from the manager and his staff. Some people don't care about that I guess but as a business owner it always stands out when the staff are high energy and stoked. Keep killing it boys. read more

Great shop, very nice and knowledgeable. They fixed my boy's Hayes brakes on short notice, while we were here on vacation recently. Riding the mountain was our main reason for coming to Whistler and it would have been such a bummer for him to miss his last day of riding. But instead, they took care of it, and he was able to get in a solid 6 hours and he was super stoked. read more

My 10 year old daughter needed a full snowboard/boots setup, but she has pretty big feet for her age/size. I called a few places in Whistler and got a bit of a brush off. When I called Evolution, the woman who answered spent a good 10-15 minutes on the phone with me brainstorming options. Sunday evening I went in with my daughter and the guy who helped us was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and friendly. He measured my daughter's feet and then knew how every boot would fit before she even put it on. We left with a great setup, feeling very confident it would work out perfectly, and it did. Very fast and friendly service, and they took the time to look at my bike and explain the work they were going to do. Visited late in the afternoon on a Sunday, having tried many of the other bike stores, looking for a inner tube that would fit my wife's Batec mobility wheelchair. I do not snowboard, so I have only been here a couple times in winter, but I have stopped in several times in summer. I think this is one of the coolest (as in chilled) bike shops in Whistler. There are actually a few that are good, and a couple I have never been to- so I haven't seen the whole of the Whistler bike shop scene. Unfortunately, there are a couple of what I have termed "bike diva" shops here. I have carefully considered what is wrong with these shops, putting aside the harassment on the stroll by a shop DH bike employee last season. Basically, they don't give you a chance. They see you as a "type" of person, which means you might as well be a donkey. However, at this shop they seem pretty happy in a relaxed way. They are not particularly bothered if you ask questions. They will smile if you pose them in a funny way or explain how you learned to road bike as a kid without know anything about the mechanics of the bike. For me, this involves various stories about my father, who bought my bikes and told me, "Don't touch it, you'll break it!" so many times I think I have anxiety about anything mechanical. He had my tires so perfectly inflated I never even had a single flat tire. Actually, I suspect my dad was a bit of a road "bike diva" himself, LOL. As such, I don't have much experienced with fixing bikes, but I some have enthusiasm about biking, and that seems to be enough at this shop. Anyway, this shop has a really comfortable feeling and the employees really seem to try to be helpful. They were nice even to a guy who came off the street and asked who repaired cell phones, because he dropped his and it got wet, which was obviously not something they could help with directly. I have had my bike tuned here and made a couple small purchases. They seem to have some good bike apparel sales too, although I haven't found anything in my size- yet. They let me look around without a big sales pitch. It's just a really good atmosphere in this shop. This is an independent shop, and, just FYI, the only bike/snowboard shop that I know of in this town owned by a woman. It is a rather small shop and they only take bikes until they run out of storage, so, sometimes, they may not be able to take your repair, but it's definitely worth asking if you are nearby. It is on a off shoot of the stroll, near the Conference Center, the photo store, and across from Tapley's (a well known bar). One final bonus, if you are biking during the "ski season", this shop is the only one in the village that fixes bikes all year long. Very nice little shop that rents the best bikes in Whistler. Had an excellent time in the bike park on a fully loaded V10. Bike was in top shape and was serviced daily (had new tires on my 2nd day). Based on the condition of some of the other rental shop bikes, this place has by far the nicest fleet. I also like the fact the shop is independently owned. One gripe I do have to bring up is that I had rented an Enduro bike (Bronson) online for my wife. Upon arriving at the shop I was told that Enduro bikes aren't allowed in the bike park. This was not indicated anywhere on the website. The owner came over and also stated that this was stated clearly on their website and "in big bold print". Not wanting to argue and just wanting to get out and ride, I rented a DH bike for my wife instead. The owner was nice enough to cut us a break on price as there is a considerable difference between the DH and enduro bikes. However, that night, I searched the website, including the fine print, and no where (as of Sept 3, 2017) was this indicated. My wife searched as well and she did not see it either. When I brought this up to the owner the next day, she was a much less bold and affirmative with her stance and said "Oh. Maybe it's not there. But it's supposed to be." That rubbed me the wrong way. But the quality of the bikes did make up for this. So, despite this annoyance, was still overall a positive experience. Just wish there was a bit more attention to detail here and less blaming the customer. read more

Can't say enough good things about my experience with evolution. So thankful that this shop has knowledgeable people that know the product and are actual willing to help you get what you want. After sitting on some other rental bikes it was night and day different with evolutions v10. Very well maintained, no worn out grips or stuff that looked like they were trying to extend it's life on the bike. As I like my bike setup a little bit different then most they had no problem changing it up for me. I really am thankful I walked in to evolution shop and found a bike that felt like my own brand knew downhill machine. Thanks guys for letting my charge dirt merchant and a-line all day. read more

Went with Evolution for bike rentals because they were the only shop that had a trail e-bikes available to rent. Reserved an e-bike for my wife and a standard trail bike for myself, website said shop opened at 9:30. Arrived at the shop at 9:30 and it was still closed, at 9:50 an employee came out and told us that the e-bike we reserved (a Santa Cruz Heckler) was no longer available, so we decided to set her up with a Bronson and give that a shot. Finally got everything sorted out, and at 10:30 we had the bikes. Made our way out towards Lost Lake, and halfway up the first climb my wife complained about significant pain from her saddle. Turns out that they hadn't set the bike up properly for her height - the seat was way too low, preventing her from putting her weight on the handlebars and pedals. Since we didn't have any tools, we made our way back to the shop to get it adjusted and see if they had any other saddle options. Unfortunately by then the damage was done and she wasn't able to sit on the bike without pain, even when it was properly adjusted, so we returned our rentals after 2 hours. Spoke to the manager about getting a partial refund, given the circumstances (didn't get our original rental reservation, only had the bikes for 2 hours (of which maybe 30 minutes was on trails) due to poor setup) and was told that since we reserved the bikes for the full day they couldn't give us any refund. Overall the bikes were nice, but the experience with Evolution was very disappointing. Next time I'm in Whistler I will be looking elsewhere for rentals and equipment. read more

Evolution is the best. A true core independent in the Disneyland that is Whistler these days. Went up and got a great rental experience for Crankworx. These guys know their stuff. It's local owned and operated and they care. Offered pads, insurance, all made it my choice. Saw some sad sap who sounds rather ignorant so if you're gonna be that way, well, you come off like a wanker. Be cool and you'll get cool back, no one is going to want to deal with someone who spouts off like you do. They also carry a deep selection of the Lib Tech come winter. The prices were so great I almost bought a snowboard when I returned the bike! Keep it up Evolution. You rule. read more
