I have played on the four indoor courts extensively, including a lot of league play, and have always found them adequate. They were resurfaced not too long ago. Playing on the six outdoor courts in good weather is really nice, though as a previous poster noted, they are typically dry only four or five months a year. For anyone who values the social aspect of tennis, LRC is a good bet, too. The management and members are friendly folks. I'll always have a warm place in my heart for this club, and would have given five stars but for not wishing to appear as a homey booster.

But who's joining a tennis club in Seattle/Tacoma where it rains 8 months out of the year for the outdoor courts? I'm judging this place based on their indoor courts which needs work. The lighting could be nicer on all 4 indoor courts. They have 2 courts in one area of the club, then 2 in another. The first 2 courts are awful, there are big ceiling poles in the middle, and a wall to the left side that you can easily run into. I've had Lakewood team tennis players tell me it's their strategy to hit short angles so players collide into that wall. When you run back for lobs, there's basically no padding behind the tarp. So you collide right into a wall. Once, I was running back for a lob and someone had the steel door open because they were watching a match through it (I don't get why this person thought this was a good idea). So, I run into the tarp and right into the door (I didn't know it was open), right into them, and had the door been open a bit more, it would have probably knocked me out. They have a pool here. But it's not a real lap pool where you can swim. It's what I call a "drunk pool." Meaning it's more one of those pools people in Southern Cali will have in their backyard, where on late summer nights when you've had a lil' too much hard alcohol and for some reason you feel like jumping into water naked - it's that type of sized pool. If this club near was in the Bellevue or Seattle area, or more North, it wouldn't survive. I think it has a large membership base because there aren't many options in the Tacoma area for tennis. Tacoma Lawn isn't worth the money at all (indoor courts are pretty weak), Sprinker is nice but always packed, so Lakewood survives as an alternative.

Finally, when I went to college, I decided I needed a new hobby so I decided to train jiu jitsu [In the town I went to school]. When summer came along, Michael Proctor and his team took me in with open arms. Since joining his academy, I have come to find a second jiujitsu home where I am always welcome. Some specific notables for this gym? 1. The techniques are very.... technical, as they should be. Michael Proctor really does know the art. He knows how important the little details are and he instills that knowledge in our training every day. Also - a side note with Michael and his techniques: If Michael sees one person needing help on specific escapes, positions, or submissions, he will cater the class' curriculum for that person. He does this for everyone, not only his shining stars. 2. VERY CLEAN FACILITIES. Michael makes sure the mats are always clean. I wouldn't be surprised if he told me that he mops the mat multiple times after just one training session. He takes a lot of pride in the team's hygiene, emphasising the importance of handwashing, shoe-wearing, and gi-washing. 3. The energy in the room is always positive. It is not uncommon for the class to start off with a few jokes. Michael keeps it light and it makes a fun environment to train in. People feel like family when they come in because they are treated as family. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who has a bellybutton.

Each area is well seperated and there is tons of staff looking to clean up and assist anyone that may need assistance. From children to the elderly there's a mixture of people and there's more than enough room for everybody. I used to go to a YMCA in NJ and it can't compare to this location. I didn't know a YMCA could be so nice but I am glad to be mistaken!! I took off a star because there seems to be construction going on for the indoor pool which I know is a hot commodity for those looking to join a YMCA! Will be here daily!

Chris has told everyone that he can get your daughter a scholarship. They just want your money.Your daughter will be considered a "cash-cow" to them. If you are on their regional beach team, DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR MONEY - that's a joke. Yes, Christy will smile all day and tell you how awesome your daughter is, etc, and swipe your card. Its a hard sell to parents that are just trying to do their best for their kid and are easily deceived & boy do they lay it on THICK. Next is the whole "Ohana" or 'family' bs they try to sell. I don't care what they say, there is no Ohana or team feel here. Girls/parents screw each other over all the time - its literally a pit of viper parents. Really, its bad - the worst club experience x 100 - because you have to schedule your own partners (NO, they do not help or pay) and schedule your own games - with other moms, complete with ego's & rampant backstabbing that Dakine is aware of but does nothing to step in. Its not much better on the Elite travel team. Fork over $3k for the summer & winter - and if you are not part of the ~10 favored Chris crew - you are just a funding source for them. Know this going in, they WILL treat you and your daughter poorly. They WILL NOT help you with partners to play with. You WILL get lots of smiles and BS, until you figure out (like most of us) you were completely duped. They completely lull you into a sense of security that they will take care of you. THEY DO NOT. And btw, most parents on Elite detest Chris, but have to pander to his narcissistic BS to get attention for their kids. Its pretty pathetic. Just know, there are other orgs out there to consider, before getting sucked in. Just remember he is selling the same lines to every fresh faced girl and mom/dad who walk in there! They depend on the old saying "a sucker born every minute".

We were trusting them with supporting our daughter and her emotional and physical development. We expected safety, truth, and respect. What we received in return was not only disappointing--it was deeply damaging. Unfortunately, our time ended with a complete breakdown of trust, accountability, and professionalism on their part. Look at the reviews: * Children shamed, bullied, and humiliated--with no protection or empathy. * Parents silenced, brushed off, or retaliated against for voicing concerns. * Multiple accusations of intimidation and toxic culture. * A pattern of deleting or suppressing negative reviews to maintain an illusion of integrity. Favoritism runs rampant. Sloppy business practices at best. Lies and cover ups. A disgraceful lack of partnership with parents. Closed practices..... seems suspicious. I should have trusted my gut, and these reviews. Despite claiming a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, and body-shaming, their actions suggest otherwise. The fine print at the bottom of their handbook may protect them legally--but ethically, it exposes a troubling truth: policies at Zenith West aren't meant to guide or protect; they're meant to shield leadership from accountability. To anyone considering this gym: Read the reviews they can't delete. Ask questions. Trust your instincts. This post isn't just for her. It's for every young athlete whose voice was ignored, whose spirit was dimmed, and whose potential was overshadowed by poor leadership. You deserve better.
