My daughter went here since it was an available and local standardized testing location. We went the day before the test (Friday) to familiarize ourselves with the grounds and ensure she knew where to go on testing day. The staff were so cute and friendly. Some of them were dressed up for the holidays in movie character costumes. The front office was decorated and the atmosphere was so cheery. There were other students and parents waiting in the small space near the front office desk. On the day of the test (Saturday)- The school has a large parking lot but it is shared with Victor Valley College (VVC). We weren't sure if we needed parking passes so I purchased a $3 pass for the day at one of the VVC ticket machines. The school appears to offer transportation to students as we saw several buses on the Friday we went. We also saw what appeared to be armed security guards wearing black. It's understandable with the recent school shootings in America. Overall, my daughter said her test taking experience was very good. She was able to find an outlet in the classroom she went to and plug in her laptop. Were very blessed and grateful to have had this school as a location for the test. Thanks Excelsior!!! read more

I do a lot of YELP reviews; you can trust me when I say this is a GREAT school. It is like a private school for free! They have in person, online and independent study or any combination of those options. My grandson has ADHD and autism and they work with us MUCH BETTER than any public school ever did. They have a great parent portal to communicate with teachers, see assignments and grades etc. School is not easy, they have a reasonably tough curriculum but if you want your child to succeed, I recommend this school. read more

Teachers, you've been warned. Administration will chew you up and spit you out very quickly if you're not handing out easy A grades and passing every student, even though they turn in next to zero assignments. I had a lot of hope enrolling my child here but they keep disappointing me. Communication is horrible with the exception of her counselor no one else has been helpful. They added a class to her schedue without us knowing. She of course was failing it because she never went because she didn't know about it. Teachers don't show up to class and there is no courtesy notice that they won't show prior or even during a session and no explanation, no substitute, no apologies received. My child is already struggling and by not being in a big school environment I thought would be more helpful but I do want people to know this prior. It would have been so helpful. This school was recommended and everyone was helping in enrollment but it all changed and I need to find a school where teachers are reliable. read more

I just graduated but I'd say it's an ok school. I had joined before covid started, but I was very affected by my old school so I had no expectations. Around 11th, I made good friends and had a few teachers I loved. Throughout 12th has been the best year of my life. They helped me with my adhd , my learning struggles and even helped me pass math. My favorite teacher was our child development teacher, she was super kind. On the other hand, the teachers don't get treated fairly enough, I heard they get less pay. There's more fighting and more kids getting into trouble with sexual stuff or bullying. Our new principal seemed to let this happen. I'm glad I graduated here though, much better than my old school. read more

Excelsior is a great choice for many students who need structure, options and support. The school that has an effective curriculum for this time requiring social distancing and online learning.The staff is caring and competent. Let me start by saying I really like this school. I would give Excelsior 5 stars, but there were a few big bumps last year. Incoming 7th graders had a hard time, i.e., returning students get first pick of the classes which meant there was not enough space in the classrooms so some students didn't get the benefit of having teachers for all subjects. However, there are labs where the students can go during free periods to get help and the facilitators are more than willing to help stuggling students. Even the Assistant Principal offered to help my daughter with her math any time she needed it. We really appreciated that! They've made some changes so we're hoping things will run smoother this year. My son graduated from Excelsior in 2006. Putting him in this school was the best thing I could have done for him. He went from failing all of his classes and being physically ill from school stress to straight A's and being his normal happy self within the first month. Now my daughter attends the same school and she loves it. The facilitators and teachers have been great. The office staff is very nice and helpful. The campus is clean and, from what I've seen, security keeps a watchful eye without being invasive. They're very focused on helping the students succeed and have different ways of motivating students. For instance, students earn raffle tickets for taking tests. A new car is one of the raffle prizes. There are fun field trips and they also have festivals before big tests. Students definitely have to put in the work, but the kids also have some fun stuff to look forward to. read more

The 3 stars is really from an overall lack on the administrations part...(not teachers). This was our first experience with this school and they were unorganized and appeared like it was their first time doing back to school. In this school, you can do workshops on campus or you can do independent study at home. You have to meet with a facilitator on a regular basis, they are the holder of the information and grades for the year. The Thursday before school starts, they call to tell me that my appointment won't be until the week after school starts, So how does a child go about attending a new school without the information to get her through her first day? We don't have books, a workshop schedule, and we don't know the logins for the online portion of the classes. I instantly felt they were setting my daughter up for failure. I complained about this and they were able to get us our appointment before school, but I was right, without that appointment my daughters first day would have been awful. This was the day she was supposed to get her books, schedule and ID...How does that wait until after school starts? The book room didn't stay open as long as the appointments so we still had to come back the next day to get the books. We tried to get her ID, but first the machine was out of Ink (really, you don't have extra ink on hand for the beginning of the school year, when you are going to need it the most?) On the 2nd day of school the ink was here, but there was another problem, here we are on the 4th day of school and the ID Machine is still down. The schedule we planned out in June through their system was a waste of my time as she didn't get not one of those classes where we had planned it in her day. Instead I am driving her 1/2 way across the high desert for :55 minute classes...3 times a day! We found out in our appointment that they are now selling lunch, but they can't tell you what food is being served, or for how much. This school has came across as a "figure it out for yourself" system. Don't get me wrong my daughter likes the school and she is enjoying the couple of workshops she is able to attend, but as a parent, I was disappointed at their lack in getting the school year going. I ran a company for 15 years, so I am having a hard time understanding how a facility that expects it's students to be on time and organized, can't seem to meet it's own expectations. read more

I'm currently a student attending this school and I'm a good student and I'm failing here. This school puts so much pressure on students to be "successful". And the monthly testing that doesn't seem so hard is so stressful that I'm so stressed at night I can't sleep. It's like finals every month. Which it really is. The students attending the school are rude. Don't send your kids here you will regret it. read more
