He was punched in the face, kicked, pushed, and teased all year. We talked with the teacher and school office. We were told they were dealing with the bullies and they would keep an eye on my son. Today was the last day of school and his pants were pulled down by one of the bullies. Another girl told the boy to pull down my son's pants. He was not fully exposed, his underwear stayed up, enough is enough! The superintendent called me and told me what happen and I lost it. I asked if it was the same kids who have been picking on my kid all year and he had no idea. He said that he cannot disclose who the child is but they did deal with the student.

The kids he plays with are older and that doesn't bother me because they all have been very respectful. The neighborhood kids at the bus stop are all very well behaved and the parents are very involved. Every morning you will see many parents at the bus stop keeping an eye on the entire group of kids. The teachers have been great so far and I have always felt welcomed when I visit the school. The office staff is helpful and friendly. Nobody is rude or uncaring. My kindergarten son loves school but that is expected because of him age. He loves his teacher and I enjoy volunteering in both of my kids classes. The PTA has been great and has a ton of fun activities for families and the kids.

Did you know that the school district is so financially strained that it cannot afford to hire more staff to support the students? Did you know administrators will tell you they will handle a situation with your student, but will not? Listen to your children when they tell you stuff about what is happening at school. Don't have any doubt about what they are saying; help them resolve the issue. Tell me, how well do you know Sitting Bull Academy or the district? My son started school here last year and they were more than accomidating…read more We didn't have a place of residency yet and were living in a hotel which means they can't start school yet. They bypassed this rule for us and even found a way to get him to school since he wasn't on the regular bus route. Everyone in the office, the teachers and the principal are all great, they actually care and take their time with each student/parent. It might not be the fanciest, newest school, but it does the job and my sons happy, what more do you want?

She always loved school, felt supported by her teachers, and often served as the classroom helper. Unfortunately, this changed drastically in 4th grade when she was placed with a new teacher whose behavior toward her became emotionally harmful. She went from coming home excited about learning to crying almost daily after school. Concerned, I met with both the teacher and the principal--multiple times--only to have our concerns consistently dismissed. I asked for teacher training to help address what appeared to be burnout. With 33 students--well above the recommended limit--it was clear she may have been overwhelmed. I also respectfully requested a transfer to a teacher with fewer students and more capacity to meet my daughter's needs. Both requests were denied. Despite escalating the issue to the superintendent, no meaningful changes occurred. The principal continued to deny any problem existed. In every meeting, the principal told me my daughter was simply "misunderstanding" the teacher's behavior, completely disregarding how she was being treated. When the principal finally agreed to "talk to the students," she never addressed the specific behaviors I raised. That's when I learned the principal and teacher are close friends--a relationship not previously disclosed--which made the process feel biased and unfair. I ultimately made the heartbreaking decision to withdraw my daughter from the only school--and group of friends--she has ever known, in the middle of the school year. I chose not to enroll her in a brand-new school mid-year with a different teaching model and unfamiliar peers. Since leaving, several parents have shared their own frustrations and concerns, confirming that this wasn't an isolated experience. I've considered legal action to advocate for policy change, but I hesitate because I don't want to take funding away from the students still enrolled. It saddens me to say I no longer trust that my daughter would be safe returning, even with a different teacher. My fear is that if anything serious were to happen again, it would once more be minimized or denied. I once believed this school was a rare gem in the High Desert, but it turned out to be no different from many underperforming schools in the area.
