Originally I was looking for counseling to help me navigate my feelings around my mom with ALS, with whom I didn't have a good relationship, and since then, she has helped me grow into such a calm, collected, understanding, and strong person. I'd always considered myself strong, but I was very closed off from certain feelings. I can now feel all the things that arise and not be debilitated by them, including the overwhelming empathy I used to have. I can sit comfortably with people I don't agree with, I've learned the power of listening over simply talking, my marriage is absolutely incredible despite serious health challenges and other things life throws, and I am a truly optimistic person now rather than being more of a "realist" who focused more on possible negative outcomes. Life feels fuller, my career(s) keep evolving into better things, and even when I'm not struggling with any issues actively, I still love to have a session and reflect on the current state of life or possible future goals.
