There's even a restaurant for roast duck out front. It's a little rough around the edges but reminds me of home. My parents also loved it.

When I first wandered the 13eme, I wasn't very impressed; I saw only a smattering of Asian traiteurs and grocery stores. When I reached Tang Frères (literally, when I turned the corner), my eyes almost fell out of my head. I've NEVER seen such an enormous Asian supermarket. The way that it's arranged is not very intuitive to me (even though I feel like I have a lot of experience wandering around Asian supermarkets); I can't ever seem to find the spices / sauces that I want. There also aren't very many workers walking around, so it's extremely difficult to find help. However, that allows you to wander around and explore all the awesome things that they sell. :D Chives are surprisingly expensive. (I just had to say that :x It's really weird for me). There's a huge variety; I can't overemphasize this. I think you can pretty much find any Vietnamese / Chinese thing you'd need for any sort of cooking. Prices are decent for Paris. Today, I bought a lychee drink, a mangosteen drink, two sets of wonton wrappers, 500g of ground pork, chives, five-spice powder, coconut milk, and tiny tapioca pearls for only 11.20€. Amazing. ALSO! They ground their pork fresh :O It's so cool. I've never seen that. You do need to get a ticket in order to get served by the Boucherie, though. I totally didn't expect this at all and I stood around like an idiot, wondering how people knew it was their turn to get served. I guess it's a new system. It's a little out of the way, but it's totally worth a trip. :)

An escape from the richness of food in Paris…read more FOOD RATING : The Shrimp Paste Rice ( 9/10 ) was the winner here, with the various flavors and mix and matching the assorted vegetables and meats. The dried shrimp was a little bit hard, but everything else was great. The Thai Sausages ( 8/10 ) were salty with a little bit of tang, and when eaten with a nibble of ginger and Thai chili, the grease blended so well. The Steamed Fish ( 2.5/10 ) was quite disappointing as there was barely any flavor to the sauce. It was also really pricey (over 20 Euros) for the small amount of fish - which is understandable because it's seafood - but the quality of the dish did not makeup for the high price whatsoever. The Rice Porridge ( 8/10 ) was really comforting and very tasty, and had ginger, fried onions, pork, and green onions in it. Nothing too special, but a tasty broth and great combination of good ingredients. SERVICE : The two servers working were nice and made sure I always had water, and would check up on how the meal was. Nothing too special, but it was pleasant to eat there. DETAILS : This place was a total random hole in the wall I found, but the food absolutely blew my mind. It tasted exactly like food from Thailand, from the sauces down to the exact ingredients they used. If you ever start getting tired from the rich, creamy, buttery food of Paris and crave rice and tang this is a great place to eat at. It's located in a corner of a mall in 13th Arrondissement, the mall being a little difficult to navigate with all it's twists and turns, but definitely worth the effort to find.

Pretty classy décor for a Paris 13ème restaurant - former French president François Hollande dined here! The salads (key is in the preparation of the fish-sauce-based dressing) are pretty authentic and quite appetising. Likewise for the tom yum soup (only one kind here) - yummy. The cooked dishes are ok, but not the stuff that Thai foodies would scream about: the curries are too westernised - lacking spiciness and flavour; the fried fish is insufficiently seasoned (in Thailand, you can even eat the bone!) ; no difficult dish like lemongrass and lime steamed fish. Pro-active and friendly multi-Asian staff (Thái, Vit). Desserts are wayyyy toooo sweet. We came back in June 2018. Some in our party had pho - not authentic at all and quite an insult to the real thing! The Thái dishes are OK - not the best but pretty good.

I'm from San Francisco, so I'm constantly comparing all the cuisine I have in France to the holi-ness that is the Bay Area's China town. The ambiance is beautiful, the waiters dress up in traditional Thai attire, and it's a warm, comfortable place to catch up with old friends. We got down and dirty with the seafood noodles, a bowl of Pho, fried lemongrass tofu, and their chicken and mushroom dish. For dessert we had tri-colored tapioca (che ba mau), coconut/banana rice pudding, and the sweet tofu. Can you say mouth orgasm? The mushrooms were tender and flavorful, the noodles addictive, and the Pho soup was as good as any I've had in the states. All dishes were under 11 euros. For the three of us, the total came out to about 50 euros, including dessert and tip. Which is a hell of a deal in snobby Paris.
