Hubby & I dined here in 2017 when we were in China town visiting the area where he grew up. This restaurant is a little special to hubby as his dad would take his clients here all the time. It's amazing to see this place is still doing well. We dined here in the evening and the food was amazing; it had a Thai/Malaysian twist to it. The Tom Yum soup was good and the egg rolls were my favorite. Super crispy and different from the ones back home. I didn't care too much for the Pad Thai but I did enjoy the Fried Rice. If you are in Paris and wish to try a nice Thai/Laos restaurant this place is a jewel. First let me say that you need to reserve as they are always full. Because of their reputation of being the best in Paris 13th arrondissement and space wise they can only take so many customers at a time. I was back in Paris from London for my last night before coming home to the U.S and i was in dire need of Asian food after 8 days. I found this gem on yelp and uber-ed my butt over here asap! I love how this place has Lao, Thai, and Viet cuisine without sacrificing the authenticity of the dishes. I ordered the Fried Egg Rolls (Cha Gio) and it was soooo good! (and not because i was deprived of Asian food). Perfectly fried, authentic filling and served with fish sauce for dipping. (5/5) I also ordered the Banh Cuon (Vietnamese raviolis with a minced pork and mushroom filling) and I almost cried tears of joy. I want to say the Vietnamese cuisine here is better than most places in San Francisco. This was like straight from the motherland, it's THAT good. Must Get. (5/5) Service was very good. Having traveled for the last week and half in Spain and France, I was craving some Asian food. Stumbled across this place on Yelp with decent reviews and I'm so glad we did! There were definitely a lot of people dining here during dinner time, so I can imagine that there would be a decent wait on the weekends. Came here one night when my family and I were visiting Paris from America. We were craving authentic Laotian food and this place did not disappoint! I've been to Laos at least 10 times and this was some of the best Laotian food I've ever had. The menu was extensive and had so much variety that we were overwhelmed. Our order was taken by one of the owners, who is originally from Laos. We were able to speak to him in Laotian and order whatever came to mind (we didn't really go off the menu). We ordered things ranging from papaya salad, thom yum soup, fried sausages, and grilled chicken. The food came out very prompt and the presentation was great! The service was awesome as well- I noticed that each table did not have a specific assigned server. There were multiple servers working the entire floor and would help out wherever it was necessary. At the end of our night we were struggling to book an Uber to go back to our hotel, but the owners were kind enough to personally call a taxi for us. The Lao and even Thai food are very good and authentic (except for the Nem Lao which is a bit too dry); we didn't try the Vietnamese dishes, as there are so many excellent Viet restaurants in the neighbourhood. Service is efficient and polite, although it could use more smiles! Prices are reasonable. No wonder the place is always full at meal times. This one of the most enjoyable meals we had in Paris. If it had been less crowded I would have licked my plate, as it was that good. There were some miscommunications as my French is tres mauvais, and our waitress most likely spoke Vietnamese as her native tongue, (it was rather comical) however all in all a delicious experience. We started off with a strange potato and shrimp pillow like appetizer that was quite unusual but very tasty, and followed it with a red tofu curry, and pad thai. Coming from NYC and having stayed in Paris for about a week, I must say that this has been one of our best meals (if not the best) yet. I was skeptical at first, because usually I'm not crazy about the all-in-one Thai/Viet/Etc asian restaurants. In the case of this one, it's actually run by Laotian people. They were extremely gracious, very generous, and the meal definitely did not break the bank. Amazing food, generous portions, and service is just okay, and that's because it's so busy! We got there at about 9 PM on a Wednesday night and waited about 40 minutes to get a seat. It was well worth the wait. Dinner for 2 with an appetizer, two entrees, and two drinks, was 35 Euros. We had the roast duck and the chicken with red curry., and the app was the fried spring rolls. Of course, these all had authentic names but I don't recall what they were. You'll find them on the picture menu. The chicken in the curry was so tender that I thought it was soft tofu at first. It's that good. The duck was also excellent. The description of the duck mentioned curry, but I didn't detect any. If you need a break from brasserie style cuisine and miss asian food, rice, etc. then this is a must. read more

This was my first time trying Laotian food, and it was wonderful. The tom yum soup here is one of the best soups I've ever had - the broth was complex and bursting with interesting flavors, without being too spicy. It also had lots of seafood that was well-cooked. Next, I split the Laotian sampler platter with two other people and it was more than enough food. The chopped beef salad was my favorite, though I also liked the curry and fried split sausage. I didn't really care for the jerky (too hard) or cabbage salad (too spicy for me) but overall it was excellent. Good service and nice ambience! read more

Absolutely packed on a Monday night -- this was the hot spot of a neighborhood teeming with hybrids of one or another combination of Thai-Vietnamese-Cambodian-Laotion cuisine. A friend who introduced me to this spot (merci beaucoup :) made sure I was in the know about the family-owned sister restaurant across the street, where the decor may not be as sleek and modern, but you get the same food for a slightly lower price point. The one at No. 105 is closed on Mondays, though, while its counterpart at No. 102 shutters its doors on Wednesdays. My husband is Laoatian, so when he found a Lao restaurant in Paris we had to try it. This restaurant also offers Thai food so you can try Lao and Thai food. We ordered Lao sausages, beef jerky, Lao green papaya salad, and beef laap. It was good but couldnt give it 5 stars, the sausages was missing the herbs (lime leaf, red pepper), the jerky was good, Lao green papaya salad wasn't as spicy(not sure if you can ask to make it spicier, waiter didn't offer), the beef laap I wished they offered it with lettuce not cabbage, an order of sticky rice was small wished it was bigger. Coming from a Vietnamese girl that lives in Vancouver, Canada the Vietnamese food here is "MEH". For any Vancouverites this restaurant is a nicer version of Phnom Penh aesthetically but food wise it does not compare. I guess I would say I have very high standards since we are pretty spoiled with amazing Asian cuisine in Vancouver. The food came out VERY FAST - TOO FAST. The banh cuon was likely microwaved. I got L1 as my main dish and it was okay not the worst. Although I have to say the dessert - mango sticky rice and durian sticky was was probably the best part of the meal. It is a 4 star place... but they get the extra star for the amount of food in a European country. Every time I am in Paris, this is one of my favorite places to go eat at. The food is plentiful and the price is inexpensive compared to the French restaurants with half the food. The Lao women here knows what they are doing. I have been to both locations. #1 is better than #2 in regards to food. #2 is better than #1 in regards to dining experience. They looked at us wierd for showing up in the #2 location with casual clothes on, but I am there to eat, not to be seen. #1 offers the sticky rice and the grilled stuffed chicken wing. Their che is good too. It is a mixture of Thai and Viet style coconut milk drink. If they can figure out how to keep the food piping hot during the winter, I would give it 6-stars, but it is France so I won't expect too much from the Frenchies. read more

I knew I wanted to eat some SE Asian food in France, because, you know there's more to France than just french food. We shared the - pha khao Lao Lang xang sampler with Laotian sausage (can't pin what spices are on here), dried beef w lemongrass (jerky, a bit tough to chew and had a strong ginger and lemongrass flavors), papaya salad (spicy but for some reason didn't like the flavor), minced beef salad (like larb but not as flavorful, and I wasn't sure that was even beef) and coconut milk red chicken curry (excellent flavor, wish the cuts of chicken were thinner so it wasnt so dry). This was our least favorite order and could have done with an order of spring rolls or just the coconut milk red chicken curry instead. I also wish this place served coconut rice because that would've been soo perfect with the curry chicken. - ped lad prik: basil duck with tamarind sauce was the most flavorful dish we had - sweet and savory. The duck skin isn't crispy but that's ok, I drenched it in tamarind sauce anyways. I'm glad it came with bok choy cos I need my veggies desperately on this trip. Love the fried garlic chips and peanut bits. - bi bun cha gio (rice vermicelli with pork, garlic chips and spring rolls) was good but nothing to write home about. The spring rolls stayed impressively crispy the whole meal though even though I drenched it in fish sauce. - mango sticky rice is really good! How is the mango so sweet still in December? I love these flavors, totally remind me of childhood. Would I say you had to come here to eat? Only if you're sick of eating french cuisine your whole trip. Lao Lane Xang 2, the latest addition of the Siackhasone family in this street (they have 3 restaurants there), offers delicious lao-vietnamese-thai dishes in an upscale and modern setting at an affordable price. You may think that it sounds too good to be true but just try one of the lunch sets as we did and you will be a fan of this place. I had Thai soup, Laotian green papaya salad, Laotian pork sausages, sticky rice and my friend Pavel had rice, another salad, pork nems, spicy dried beef and a glass of red Chinon for each one of us. I ate so much I almost exploded. This place is phenomenal, and everyone else knows it too because this place gets crowwwwded. Definitely get a reservation if you plan on eating here. I had the toasted rice salad and duck with tamarind sauce and then mango sticky rice for dessert. Also I ordered sticky rice with the duck. My friend's pad thai looked fantastic too but I was too focused on my duck to even go near it. Also, be prepared to know your foods in either their traditional asian name or know french. They don't have an english menu and they have one with pictures but it makes less sense than the normal menu (many things are crossed out). I'm pretty sure even if you ordered anything on the menu it would be great, but it's always nice to know vaguely what you are ordering (hence my friend's safe choice of pad thai). Also, they have thai iced tea! If you're even a little adventurous don't hesitate to just pick something that sounds cool on the menu, it's probably amazing. I've had this dish for the first time from "street bangkok local food" in paris and it is MUCH better there. Mains we shared a pad thai and a curry. pad thai was great, probably the second best one i've had in Paris. The curry was FANTASTICC. Lots of coconut milk in it, just enough spice for some kick, and i legit drowned my rice in it. I almost wanted to order another order of rice just to soak up all the curry sauce. Our party of 6 enjoyed a lot of different tastes and textures here. A few things were a bit unusual but nothing was bad and most were excellent. The portions were not particularly large or small, and almost everything arrived hot. Prices were reasonable. Rather than going to one of the "Chinese" places where Vietnamese chefs serve up inauthentic Cantonese dishes, it makes more sense to celebrate the French colonial culinary heritage of Indochina here, with a combination of great flavors. So if you're after a pure Thai or Vietnamese meal, you could find fault, but if you're looking for good food this is the place. Four of us were just off the plane from the U.S., and we were put off because neither of the two locations, across Ave. d'Ivry from each other, would let us sit down and await the 7 pm opening. When we returned at 6:57 and found a queue, it was more understandable. So expect a wait on a Saturday night (and at other times, apparently). read more

The duck and basil specialty is a knockout -- don't miss it. There are pieces of crispy yet juicy duck with delicious broth, surrounded by pieces of fried basil. The papaya salad is actually spicy. Located in Montparnasse, Lao Lan Xang is a delicious Laotian escape from the rest of Paris. They have two locations across the street from each other - one is less casual in terms of seating and ambiance than the other, but the food at both is the same (aka unbelievably delicious). My mouth waters thinking about their duck with crispy basil and garlic. Hands down best duck I've ever had. Don't make the mistake of not ordering this. Other dishes included their crispy pork rice and their fried spring rolls. The only dish that I wouldn't order again was their pad thai - and that's not so much because it wasn't good and more because it wasn't out-of-this-world delicious like the duck. This place is walkable from the Metro and worth a stop. They also have a picture menu so that you can just look and point if needed. This is a worthwhile stop - add it to your list! read more

I usually go to the sister restaurant across the street, Lao Lane Xang 1, and get the same dishes every time (the two restaurants share the same menu): the duck in tamarind sauce (L43), the crispy rice and cured pork salad (L28), the nems (fried spring rolls - V12), and the Thai fried rice dish (R18). My first year in Paris, I was feeling homesick for Asia and went here no fewer than 35 times. Sure, you have lots of choice for Southeast Asian food in the 13th, but this place is as authentic as you can get and is reasonably priced. LLX 2 is not as cosy as LLX 1, but it does take reservations and can accommodate large groups. read more

This is quite possibly my favorite asian restaurant in Paris. The service has always been quick and friendly, and that's saying a lot considering how much turnover they have in a little space. And the food--don't even get me started. Start with the perfectly crispy thai spring roll, or the surprisingly tasty coconut milk mini pancakes. As for mains--everyone has said it, but there is something special about the laquered duck with basil and garlic. I also fell in love recently with the crispy cod + cabbage with coconut curry sauce. This a nice little place and would recommend it if you want to venture away from the usual Paris eateries. PLEASE if you can only eat/order one thing, please please please order the crispy duck dish, you will thank me for years to come! It is by far the best duck dish I have EVER had, so good in fact, we ordered another one right after devouring the fist order! I have traveled the world and have never found one that came even close to Lao Lane Xang's duck dish. The long wait and tight crowd was def worth it for what turned out to be an amazing dinner in Paris. The restaurant could benefit from having a bar for waiting patrons, but that may be an American thing I am used to.... But hey, they should consider it, more happy patrons and more $ for the restaurant - everybody wins! I miss being in Paris, but I miss this restaurant even more! While the restaurant atmosphere is nicer than others in Paris, the food is mediocre. My husband and I ordered the nems which were just all right. My chicken curry vermicelli was bland, and my husband's beef tended to be on the dry side. The dessert, a coconut milk, tapioca, and banana concoction, was difficult to eat because the banana wasn't ripe. On the plus side, we were seated right away at 2pm during a weekday. Best Asian restaurant in Paris. I have been to Laos 13x and this is the best Lao food I ever had. The food came out so quick and everything was made with fresh ingredients. It was authentic Lao food. Each dish was the best I ever had of that kind. Each staff was very helpful. They make sure we are ok all night. They even helped us get taxi at the end of the night. Go here! One of my favorite meals in Paris, and it only put me out 13 euros for dinner with a beer. Of course objectively my palate has been de-spicyfied by living in France, so I'm partial to anything that makes my taste buds pop these days. This was a pretty trendy restaurant as far as decor goes and much larger than it looks from the outside (plus a lot of seating on the 2F). The service was fast and helpful. We had the beef salad, chicken in red coconut curry sauce, and the basil duck (under the influence of the many positive yelp reviews of this dish). The beef salad was tasty with a nice spicy kick. I didn't care for the chicken at all, as it was too bland for my tastes. The duck, however, was absolutely amazing--tender and full of flavor! I would definitely go back just for the duck!
