You are able to pre-order the tickets through the Japanese convenience store chain Lawson - but the tickets could be hard to obtain because they book up quickly two-month in advance. JTB was a great pleasure to communicate with (via email): they made sure we got the correct confirmation, and gave us detailed instruction as to how to redeem the tickets (the ones you got through the website are vouchers). They also offered discounted JR-Pass for foreigners (which you should get if you are travelling in Japan for more than 3 weeks). PS. JTB is part of a private travelling agency group, but their prices are far better than others.
