I was an Expedia Gold member for years before COVID, and recently opened their credit card. However, recent experiences with their lack of flexibility, technical glitches, and overall poor user experience are causing me to reconsider my loyalty. A few days ago, I tried using their Price Guarantee feature, but it wasn't working properly. I kept receiving the message, "Apologies, something went wrong on our end. Please try submitting the form again." Despite trying multiple times throughout the day--especially since the price difference was over $200--I was unable to submit my claim. I took screenshots and copied the link for documentation. Yesterday, I tried again, but the issue persisted, and it was clear that Expedia hadn't fixed the bug. Frustrated, I contacted customer service, only to be told they wouldn't honor the price match due to the technical issue on their website. As a result of their glitch, I couldn't submit my request in time, and now I'm stuck paying the higher price. On top of that, I wasn't able to track my membership progress on their site or app at all throughout last year. This lack of functionality made it even more frustrating to be a member, as I had no way of knowing where I stood in terms of benefits or status. Learning a very late lesson. First time used of Expedia. Set up a hotel room For 2 days for my sisters funeral out of state. They seemed to set it up and take my card no problem I called 3 days before going out of state to advise my husband caught covid and we couldn't travel. Nightmare going downhill fast. First getting someone on the phone is crazy. It takes literally hours. Then when you do they always say call back to you. Hotel can't help cuz u booked 3 rd party. Wish I could do 0 stars as I am severely irritated at the blatant lying. We erroneously selected a hotel that looked better online than in person, so we went to another hotel after seeing the first in person. Contacting the hotel they were fine canceling the stay and refunding the full 100%, although I stated I'd still pay for the first two days due to their cancelation policy. Expedia on the other hand said they couldn't do anything because the hotel wouldn't accept it. Also, they made me reach back out several times to have their agents recheck with the hotel. Tried to call customer service multiple times, took about 5 tries before I was able to talk to a person (AI/Bots only!). When we arrived at the pickup location (Priceless Car Rental), we were told it only included 200 miles per day. Long-time Expedia user that just scammed to the point where I am no longer comfortable using them again and recommend against anyone using their services. I booked a hotel in Wales in January and upon arriving found the hotel had no record of the booking. Expedia had an internal system issue and registered the booking to a hotel with the same name hours away in England. This is despite my booking confirmation email explicitly listing the location as being in the town I selected in Wales. They insisted their records showed "the booking was made for this town in England", probably because they changed the location of the hotel in their system after the booking had been made. They only finally refunded the price after hours of resistance and gaslighting, calling it a "goodwill gesture". Luckily the hotel had a room still available, but the rate was double what was initially booked. And on top of that, all the photos/descriptions on the Expedia booking platform were fake - the room didn't remotely match the photos/description. So in the end I'm out hundreds of extra dollars for a worse room than was advertised, with hours of a headache to even get the actual booking fee refunded. I continued correspondence to try to simply get them to cover the difference and they refused to do it, repeatedly insisting their records are right and my confirmation email (showing the location I booked) is not to be relied on. You know, the entire purpose of a booking confirmation, apparently can't be relied on? I think they are using AI to form their hotel booking pages and clearly mistakes like these are falling through the cracks. I was put in a dangerous position by being picked up in the rental car, driven to "the office" that was a garage, where they attempted to negotiate a completely different and much higher price. When I was finally able to get a agent they told me they expired no longer available. Was only a few months and was never told of there being a expiry date. On April 15 2026 was able to get through to a supervisor Monica Cristin after being on chat for almost 5 hours a reasonable resolution was not to be. Only after faking an itinerary number and repeatedly entering it did I finally get through to an agent in INDIA. Very nice fella though difficult to understand due to genteel but heavy accent. Expedia.com is a scam! I made a rental car reservation and paid in full through Expedia.com. I even purchased travel insurance on Expedia. When I went to pick up my rental car, Hertz told me that they couldn't honor the reservation and that I would need to contact Expedia to find out why. I contacted customer service. After weeks of trying to reach someone, I finally received a reply saying Expedia would not issue me a refund because I used a debit card rather than a credit card when I made the reservation. They were happy to accept my money via debit card, but then wouldn't honor the reservation because I supposedly used the wrong payment method. They refuse to issue a refund, and I now have active complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the Virginia Attorney General's Office, and the BBB. It's a scam, and they should refund my money. Expedia is unethical and basically canceled my entire reservation of 6 rooms without telling me ! They charged 1239$ for hotel booking protection which I did not request. No need to take insurance on hotel rooms. They refused to take my reservation from 6 rooms to 5 rooms unless I paid 1800$ to cancel that one room! So where was the booking protection ?? I thought we were disconnected so I called back. Another agent saw that my reservations were canceled ! I put these exact dates, because Oct 26th was one of my daughter's bachelorette party day. I book the room. Shortly after, I read the itinerary and noticed the dates had changed. Needed to shift the days from Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday to Thursday, Friday, Saturday Sunday. Was told by Expedia customer service to cancel the reservation and he would request a waiver, and then we could be refunded and change the days. The waiver was denied stating that choice hotels denied the request and then we will not be refunded the $400. Expedia said that they have a strict policy and that my reservation was nonrefundable and non-changeable. The worst experience that I have ever had! 9 Phone calls from 38 min to 2hrs and 46 min per call, 17 emails between the host, Vrbo and Expedia for a reservation modification since Dec 26th and no help at all. Now we are being told the hotel cant accommodate because they are booked up! If the host actually replied to there messages this would even be an issue. All they do is keep saying that they are trying to contact the host or Vrbo and waiting on answers but not doing anything about it! Autovía informed me that they canceled my PREPAID reservation because I arrived more than 2 hours past the reserved time. The only automatic transmission they had was an upgrade so I had to pay an additional amount. I was also surprised to learn that they said the insurance I purchased was not thru Autovía but a 3rd party. Autovía informed me that the insurance I purchased was insufficient. When I tried to see what it covered the coverage page on Expedia app kept coming up blank. I ended up purchasing the coverage from Autovía I prepaid the Expedia the car rental $400 for rental and insurance. I ended up paying an additional $300 for rental upgrade and insurance at Autovía. I learned an expensive lesson and am sharing in hopes that I can help someone else not make the same mistake. read more
