Delicious! Great place with a hip interior and delicious cocktails. To eat we had the octopus and the mixed appetizer plate, both were to die for. The octopus was so tender it melted in your mouth and had the perfect amount of spice. Also the cricket cocktail is a must! Enjoy! read more

Wow!!! Honestly, the best meal we have had in Oaxaca! The service by Jose was incredible! He treated us like absolute queens! Also, we thought their cocktails were some of the best cocktails we have had and that is saying a lot since we are from NYC. I highly recommend Reforma as a cocktail choice. Had a horrible experience here. My old fashioned was LOADED with sugar, and on the inside of the glass. Ordered a Cynar and they said they didn't have it while I was staring at the bottle. Way over charged bc they didn't know what it was. So disappointed. This is supposed to be a one of the best mixology bars in the city and my service was garbage and the staff didn't know their most basic drinks. Food is forgettable, drinks are memorable for all the wrong reasons, and the service sucks. read more

We are here in Oaxaca to experience Mexico's Day of the Dead culture. Upon our arrival into the historic center of Oaxaca, in our taxi from the airport, we saw this beautiful restaurant on the corner. After checking into our hotel & booking a couple of tours, this was the first place that we chose to walk to from our hotel. Upon entering this beautiful restaurant there was a delicious fragrance of wood incense. Don't be alarmed if reading this and if you are sensitive to incense aroma. I am sensitive, but the windows were open and the incense was not overwhelming and it did not stop up my nasal passages at all. It really did add to the experience of having a couple of drinks here. I ordered the drink called "Los Cuerudos" & it had cooked grasshoppers in it. This is a popular food in this region of Mexico. We'll probably return here during our 6 days stay in Oaxaca for a meal because the entire staff was so welcoming & professional & the other diners seemed to really enjoy their dinner. The place is super rustic and has great modern decor. Unfortunately, our appetizer was frozen cold inside, so we had to return the fried plantane dish... goose hamburger was not bad, especially because the swee potato chips were delicious. I had the grilled octopus dish and was not too impressed... it might be a better place for drinks rather than food. read more

This is an upscale and hip bar and restaurant in the historic center of Oaxaca. They serve good food and make a number of interesting mezcal based cocktails integrating sal de gusano, chapulines, and other local flavors. My only complaint and the reason this review is not 5 stars is the complete breakdown of their reservation system. We made a reservation for four online then called the restaurant to confirm on the day of our reservation. When I showed up they neither recognized nor respected the reservation, despite being shown the online confirmation. I really don't know how this could have happened or what to recommend to others who may need to make a reservation here other than to confirm reservations in person if at all possible. Ultimately the staff was very apologetic but we still have no clear understanding of what may have happened. read more

Excellent table service. If you're into day drinking, they have a great english-speaking bartender. It's a very comfortable and friendly place to initiate oneself to mezcal. Try the the mezcal flights. When you think you've had enough mescal, try the bourbon barrel aged mezcal. read more

This is a very nice bar and restaurant just out of the busy hub of the Zocalo but still very close enough to walk. Very close. It has a very small menu which I liked very much. This is a cool spot to hang out. Really cool. Take a look at the hand carved wooden open doors there.....they were done by some top know Oaxacan artist. read more

I am living in Oaxaca for a year and have enjoyed virtually all my food experiences here -- both high and low cuisine. When extended family arrived for a visit, my three kids, wife and I were eager to show them a good time. We carefully chose Expendio based on it's curb appeal and good reviews. The interior is hip and warm and the vibe is tranquilo. But then the troubles started. A few of us ordered margaritas con rochas. They all came frape. When we asked to exchange for our proper order, it took an extra 15-20 minutes (this was a Monday night; not very crowded). Our food orders varied but almost all 9 of us faced some problem or another. Our entrees were not delivered together. They were staggered every 5-10 minutes. By the time all of us had finished, one of us had not yet received his entree. Two of us ordered the tuna. It was high-quality fish but overcooked, yielding a tough, dry entree. Furthermore, the mashed potatoes promised by the menu came with neither of the two tuna orders. We asked the waiter if he could bring the potatoes and he told us it doesn't come with mashed potatoes. We pointed out what we read in the menu. He looked slightly annoyed and said he'd get them. Twenty minutes later he delivered whole potatoes (at least they were cooked). The vegetarian among us took care to ensure her entree was meat-free, as promised. It came with two meat mamelitas. The chili rellenos were served room temperature, which implied to us they had been ready long before they were served. We were patient throughout and did not register anything ugly or American (we spoke Spanish to tbe waiter). It surprised me, then, that neither the waiter nor the manager apologized or said anything to indicate they were disappointed to have given us such an obviously substandard time. It was this indifference -- more than the experience itself -- that really soured me on Expendio. Not only is this is the first review I've written, but I am writing it immediately after returning home from dinner. They don't care enough to get it right. read more

This is a modern Oaxacan restaurant. Traditional dishes are reinterpreted and recreated with modern technique. The cocktails are great, and there is mezcal tasting. The decor is modern with wood and Edison light bulbs. Recommended, but don't expect traditional food here, and have fun. read more
