The furniture in room 1 was terrible, from the seating on the front porch not being in good condition to the recliners being very worn down and not easy for our elderly parents to get out of. The dining room chairs you could tell had been repaired many times and not the safest to set in and there are only four dining room chairs as it is. The queen bed in the room we slept in was flipped for some odd reason to the bottom of the mattress being at the head of the bed and it is stated in the rules to not move furniture. The mattress was so hard and uncomfortable. Upon inspection there is alot of dirt and such at the head of the bed between mattress and box spring. The mattress cover on this same bed was torn and wouldn't really even stay on the bed. There were used toiletries left in the restroom I'm assuming from previous guest. A air hockey table was listed as the amenities but when our boys went to play it there is no power cord so not usable so be aware that's not a plus. The legs on the air hockey table where very wobbly as well. Upon arrival also there is a written notice of the abundance of flies which to a point is understanding but then it's very noticeable that they are being attracted by the trailer that is loaded down with trash that's sitting at the office. It is not very professional when the only way you can reach any staff is pushing a ring door bell. A plus was the hot tub but yet you could tell when the jets were not on it was not very clean.

I was helped each day by some amazing humans whose names I never discovered. I enjoyed every aspect of my 3 days there, exploring the plentiful trails and breaking in some new xcd madshus epochs on the many downhill options! PS we are finding that the use fee of $199 every time we book is just not worth it to us to be RCI members. Check in was pleasant and easy. We asked for a few dining tips as we have never been to the area. The place is set up with 7 sets of condo/townhouse rows. We had a two bed/bath unit, two levels. Large kitchen with a small deck looking into the facility grounds. Well maintained and attractive grounds, in need of a bit of refurbishing. They are building an indoor pool. The construction started at 830am and continued until 430pm. Luckily we were out most days but the one day we were at the unit, Wednesday, the noise was terrible. Room a/c units worked fine if a bit loud. The vent fans in the bathrooms were very loud. Notably there is only one shower, two tubs one of which is a fancy hot tub with no shower or hand held shower. Ok w/us but folks with more guests should take note. Tennis courts are dismal. We played every morning for an hour. They were never crowded and we just walked on each day. The courts are lighted for night play but the surfaces are terrible with many cracks and undulations. They need to fix them or get rid of them. Washer and dryer in unit was great. We used them a few times. All in all a functional place to stay for our few days of exploring the area. We think it would be better suited to families. There is horse riding next door. Location is 20 mins to Davis and 45 mins to Elkins the two mountain towns nearby. Also the hamlet of Thomas, just beyond Davis, was an interesting place. If you are looking for fine dining this is not the place for you. Golf and skiing are one mile away. We were here in July. It might be nice to check the place out in Winter. We did play some golf at the Canaan GC. Very nice Course, well maintained and wide open. It is located inside a State Park. Breakfast place on the property just down the road nearby the entrance is a nice feature but we ate in our unit for breakfast. The weather during our stay was perfect. There is a lot of natural beauty in the area if you like that stuff, hiking and other outdoor activities, but dining options and night life are minimal. We explored the local towns and area. If the weather was poor it would be quite a tedious couple of days. Nancy & Mark.

They have the nicest bathrooms I've ever seen at a camp site. They are a little expensive (10/night/person + $10/13 logs of fire wood). I've never camped in that region before though, so that may be standard for the area.

This is a perfect spot to camp to enjoy Dolly Sods Wilderness and Bear Rocks Preserve. There is a…read moreplace down the road to buy firewood, a generous 24 pieces, for $10. Please don't bring your own wood because it may have pests that could be passed to the tree populations there. Bring lots of water because there is none up on the mountain. There is a little market at the bottom of the mountain in Dry Fork that carries a variety of goods you might need. There are beautiful spots to hike down to enjoy the river, Res Creek. Viewing the sunrise across the road from the campground affords beautiful views, and a great spot on the rocks. I highly recommend it. In the evening, drive down to Bear Rocks preserve and park. Hike up to the rocks and enjoy the view. The campground has a couple of vault toilets that were kept pretty clean. The sites don't offer a whole lot of privacy, but they are surrounded by grass and trees. there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and wildlife feeling. At night you can hear the nighthawks and down at bear rocks at dusk you will see plenty of them doing their courtship dive. The creek is a hike from the campground. These are not along the creek at all.

Each has a fire ring and picnic table and what not. The foliage is nice but there is not a lot of thick tree cover in this alpine area which of course makes Dolly Sods unique so just don't expect large forest shade or pines. The vault toilets are clean and tidy. It will take you less than 1 minute to drive through the whole loop and pick your campsite. It's that small. You could walk to nearby trailheads but it might be easier to just hop in the car and park before your hike. Ample parking is available near the trails.
