This is a great historical attraction, but you have to know how to navigate it. The signs around…read morethe historical section are not great at all. We stayed a few miles away, so we drove in and parked at the visitors center (paid parking). Go inside the visitors center to get your passes & maps (make sure you get the clip passes as every person manning the doors at the different houses will ask). Go down to the bottom of the visitors center and catch the WATA bus to go into the historical section. We started at the governor's mansion and walked from there. You'll easily get 10,000 steps if you see the whole property, if you have mobility issues you definitely should rent a scooter (there are quite a few rental spots around the visitors center). You can take the WATA bus to most of the big attractions, but walking through really gives you the whole experience. We made the mistake of going on a 95° day in August and quickly realized there is little shade on property. Be prepared to be in direct sun most of the day. We had someone in our group who was hard of hearing using hearing aids, and it was quite hard to hear a lot of the tour guides in the buildings with the echoes. Emily in the governors mansion was the best tour guide by far. A must see attraction, but do your research and plan your trip before coming

The printed map is surprisingly difficult to use, directional signage is inadequate, and it is often unnecessarily hard to work out where you are and how to get to the next attraction or program. And it wasn't just us. I lost count of how many visitors we saw standing staring at maps, apparently trying to figure out where to go next. This was especially frustrating because someone in our party has limited mobility following recent surgery. Walking several hundred yards in the wrong direction isn't just an inconvenience in that situation. In 2026, a major attraction covering an area this large should have proper smartphone navigation. You should be able to select "Governor's Palace," a particular program, restaurant, restroom, or bus stop and get GPS walking directions from your current location, along with distance, accessibility information, and estimated walking time. Better physical directional signs are badly needed as well. There is so much history here and clearly an enormous amount of work goes into preserving and interpreting it. The problem is finding it. Colonial Williamsburg could be a wonderful visitor experience. Unfortunately, today we spent far too much time trying to figure out where we were and where we were supposed to go. This is a very fixable problem, and I hope they fix it.

I purchased the membership allowing us unrestricted access and a carriage ride where we were given the roles of the richest people in town! Ate in a local pub...that was interesting. Food was "authentic" and ale was good. There are many little stores interspersed in the town where we got some interesting period pieces. Even Orange Blossom water, which the food network site told me how to use! I could have spent a week here, but we had limited time. Someday I will get back and allowed a full week to satisfy my curiosity!

It is also my birthday month and have had my eye on this tour for awhile. It was fate! Not knowing what to expect, I jumped the gun and paid immediately. When Rex, the owner, sent the itinerary, I saw 3 local restaurants, Catch 31, Rockefeller's, & Tautogs. My first thoughts were, "I hope this isn't lame...", "I could go to these places myself..." The group met at Virginia Aquarium for an optional tour inside for the first 30mins. I arrived late. Now, I wish I made it on time to hear more about oysters. Rex tried finding the group for me & we walked all around the museum. It was way too crowded, I was late, & didn't mind waiting. Perhaps walkie talkies as a communication tool for the husband & wife team. Not just for late arrivals. :) Could be distracting too but, just a suggestion. The aquarium attendants had no idea who or where the group was. I did appreciate the effort. Not many would help me catch up with group especially, since I was late. Our first stop was Catch 31. Table was set and ready to go. We had three chefs(one including one of our guides, Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton) and the sommelier at our table. They educated us about the oysters & wine. They walked us through the various types of oysters & wine, regions, how to eat, & how to taste. We were served 4 oysters each from one of the 7 regions & two wine tastings. There were condiments and crackers on the table. I thought this was definitely the most informative restaurant out of the three. Next stop was Rockefeller's. Again, tables were set & wine was poured! No menu w/ descriptions. We had 2 raw oysters and 2 oysters rockefeller. Then, we were served hush puppies w/ pimento cheese which were amazing. Last, was coconut cake! This restaurant had more food offerings which was good because after several glasses of wine, I was hungry & others were too!! Last stop was Tautog's. They sat us outside & setup was more buffet style. Glasses of wine were on a table for us to pick up as we walked in. The presentation was beautifully prepared. They had 3 of their house sauces which were delicious! I thought the sauces were needed with these oysters. Others agreed. Didn't taste as fresh as the previous restaurants. I believe they were Lynnhaven and I've had Lynnhaven oysters before. So, not a reflection on the tour. There was also fresh cut fruit on the oyster platters. Only because TT asked, my recommendations would be: * Posting sample itineraries on social media * Clearer description of what to expect with regards to food so people know whether or not they should eat prior to the tour or pack a snack/sandwich. * Website shows they would be "happy to provide water and light snacks." None were offered. * Market/advertise the 10% off Yelp Check-in offer * Advise up front the 10% off Yelp Check-in is NOT valid for the Oyster & Wine tour. Unfortunately, due to a declared state of emergency in all four states we were traveling through, the trip had to be canceled. We completely understand that emergencies happen, but what we can't understand is the company's refusal to reschedule our trip for the following year or provide a refund. Despite circumstances beyond our control, Freedom Tours Coach Line, Inc. has chosen to keep our payment without offering any reasonable solution. Their lack of flexibility and customer service has been extremely disappointing. We expected a reputable company to handle such situations with fairness, but instead, we've been left with nothing. Mildew smell in areas of condo, dust buildup behind night stands, dirty top comforter. Rusted shower curtain rod. The room had not been properly cleaned, sanitized and overall poorly maintained. There was pee on the toilet seats when we arrived, the pool was nice and the staff was friendly but I would not recommend doing the timeshare for free discounted Busch gardens tickets, it's over 2 hours and they are very pushy, they even called our room the next day to offer us again,that was a huge turn off. The outsides of the community are wonderful but again, the inside needs work but it shouldn't be work that's done on a Sunday morning while people are sleeping. The walls are very thin and you can hear stomping from your upstairs neighbors, the beds are very hard and the springs hurt your back, We had to slam the shower door each time to get it to close, the only bonus is it's close to the parks and outlets. Having asthma myself and a child with it as well this was not a good choice, I have stayed all over this beautiful country and parts of the world and the cleanliness and quality will not allow me to recommend this to you. If you chose to see for yourself I hope your experience is much better.

First unit: - horrible fish smell in master bed…read more- maintenance sprays room deodorizer & it is just perfume over rotten fish smell - had to ask maintenance to remove sofa bed bag containing bedding - the culprit of rotten fish smell. Why would housekeeping leave it in a room in the first place? - safe did not work & maintenance has to come back twice to fix it - AC not working. Maintenance comes for a 4th time & after checking main unit outside, he actually duct tapes wiring until the main unit starts up. Not an acceptable fix at all & one that won't last. Second Unit - They move us to 2nd room & saga continues with once again the safe does not work & maintenance had to come again. It is fixed, but main code pad now moves inward when you press in your numbers so Russian roulette on open & close. - shower does not drain so not a good shower & really exhausted we decide to wait until morning to get maintenance again. They come & it is going to take snaking or more so as a quick fix & to avoid another unit move, manager allows us to use room across the floor to shower. A rather unusual solution, but better than a flooding shower. Just not very convenient - first unit & second unit not well maintained at all so extremely disappointed This was our 2nd time at this place & our recent stay was NOT good. Only enjoyment was the pool. Lobby, pool & landscaping areas only areas that are maintained. Units very run down & wonder where maintenance fees are being used. Manager also promised to waive fees, but that did not happen. Overall a disappointing stay.
