Cynthia, Young was very knowledgeable about the history of one of the first states in our nation. Really intriguing and interesting stories. Williamsburg, VA has been through many wars, including the Civil War and Revolutionary War. There are many buildings built in the 16th Century that endured fires, bullet holes, but stood the test of time. My friend and I were in Williamsburg for a few days and wanted to do something in keeping with the season. We decided to go on a Ghost tour! We talked with Angela, the manager, and she was quite nice and extremely helpful. We arrived at the proper time and place and Nate was our tour guide. For a good hour and a half, we walked around downtown Williamsburg, getting the lowdown on all the unexplained deaths and hauntings. From William & Mary College to the hangings of Blackbeard's crew, we heard lots of local tales that could send shivers up your spine! This tour is definitely worth the price! This was a very entertaining tour thanks to our tour guide Rick. He was funny, knowledgeable, and interactive. He had some great stories to share and he included everyone in our group during his stories. He had a lot of personal stories and experiences that were very interesting, but they didn't all have anything to do with Williamsburg. The only downside to the tour is that there were just too many other tours going on simultaneously. We kept stacking up and waiting or moving around other groups. Rick kept us entertained but it was a little frustrating. I took this tour a few years ago and our group had several paranormal experiences during it. This time, we didn't have any obvious incidents but a few people caught some orbs in their pictures. Overall, I do recommend this tour. It's especially interesting if you have guests who want to do something interesting and maybe learn a few things at the same time. read more

(This visit was made during the times of Covidious earlier this month. When things return to a look of normality - your experience likely will vary.) First, a bit of context:  No, you're not going to see any funny lights, orbs, probes, ghosts, ghouls, kitchen appliances or apparitions past a blue WiFi router light or two in a window. But if you're lucky you'll get a guide who's a great story teller who will also give you some good wiki-style Williamsburg trivia. Thankfully for us, we got that with Rick. The basic setup is that you make your reservation via their website and then you meet the guide(s) in front of the W&M bookstore a few minutes before the start of the tour. I say guides because I don't know what the tour capacity maxes out at but for us on a Saturday in mid-March they had two guides who I assume took everyone to the same places just in different loops (we never saw the other group the rest of our tour). Each group had about fifteen people in it and all were wearing masks. Rick said that in season on weekends he'll do multiple tours a night versus the single tour they were doing that night. From the bookstore we walked across Boundary Street/Wren Yard and up to the Wren Building. From there it was across Boundary Street and back on to DOG Street while stopping a few times in the middle of the street or in front of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church. We then turned down the Palace Green and stopped in front of and then across from the George Wythe House which is where the tour ended. Overall from door to door it was almost exactly the advertised 90 minutes. Having been to Williamsburg many times prior, in terms of history we didn't hear or learn anything that we hadn't heard before. Between the Colonial angle and the Civil War angle and the Black Beard pirate stuff it was all old hat, which seemed to be the same for most of the people on the tour. That's not to say that Rick wasn't engaging or didn't put a good spin on it because he absolutely does, but honestly, there's only so much that you can cover. Aside from the history he told stories about things he and other tours supposedly saw over his many years of giving these tours. Do I believe any of it? Of course not. But it was still entertaining. Like telling good BS stories around the camp fire. Now this is by no means the only ghost tour in town as a few other private companies operate in the same area and CW offers their "official ghost tour" seasonally which overall is no different from what you would get here in terms of content, experience or price. The main difference is that the CW tours always stop at an hour and depending upon what they're doing that year they might go into a building or two yet other years you only walk through the gardens or rear entrances while staying outside. What's a better value or experience? I can't tell you. Way too subjective. Like I usually say after doing something like this, once you've done this once do you really ever need to do this again? Not likely but there is honestly only so much you can do at night in Williamsburg especially in the off season which is why I never say never again. read more

A lot of walking so be prepared on the comfortable shoes. No bathrooms along the route until you double back so be thoughtful of that This was a one and done for me but to each their own. read more

My sister and I decided to do the Murder Tour and Pub Crawl for our birthdays and it did not disappoint. Our tour guide was so personable and knowledgeable and you could tell she truly enjoyed her job. She called us to make sure we knew where to meet her and to discuss any food allergies. When we arrived we were able to quickly find her and we met the rest of our group as well (I think there was like 10 of us total). It was sprinkling a little bit but thankfully the weather held up throughout the night. She took us all around Williamsburg on foot and told us the murder stories of each location. We went to three pubs i think and enjoyed some delicious drinks. Our group was a lot of fun and we decided to hang out after we hit the last pub and restaurant and we all talked the night away. I do NOT recommend The Original Ghost Tour ever. Like ever. We were supposed to do the pub tour and the guide was so nasty when we called, because they confirmed and gratefully took our money, but there wasn't a tour. There hadn't been one "in ages" even though we bought 3 weeks ago and got a confirmation email the day before. The guide turned into the owner when I asked to speak to the owner of the organization. Booked this tour on a whim while visiting Colonial Williamsburg. We did it for the history, not the ghosts, and can say that there are definitely plenty of cool stories and fun facts here. The tour lasts approximately an hour and 20 min and costs $14 per adult when booking online. Be sure to dress warmly because it does get chilly in VA once the sun goes down, even in September!! read more

I'm writing this more for the fact it currently has a 1 star which is unjustified in my opinion. Our B&B folks purchased the tickets as part of a package. The system is set up to call and make reservations. Unfortunately there is no live person, you leave info on a recording. This was the regular ghost tour, not the extreme as mentioned in other review. We met in front of the W&M bookstore around dusk. There were probably around 20, or so in the group. We first went on W&M campus and stories were told based on books by a local historian LB Taylor. The guide was excellent with the telling of the stories, she knew her script. We moved into Colonial Williamsburg and hit a few houses. Keep in mind with this tour you do not in any homes unlike the official CW tour. Our guide was great about keeping us all together and attempted to keep us engage. I found the stories interesting, the exercise was nice as well as the sight seeing at night which is a different perspective. Total tour time 1:45. I did not find any of it scary if that is what your going for everyone has a different level. I admit my tolerance is mid/high. I would recommend this company. read more

Denny was our tour guide on our 3 hour paranormal investigation of Colonial Willamsburg. What a fabulous time we had. His knowledge of the area is amazing as it should be since he was a former guide and reenacted at Willamsburg. His knowledge of history and the hauntings is very thorough. He even had all the tools to lead a thorough investigation of all the sites. We gained so much evidence of true ghostly activity to show ghostly activity of every spot we stop at. A scary good time was had by all that the time just flew by even on one of the hottest nights during the heat wave but no one cared or complained. We were all having a real good time. As a parapsychology student I have been on many ghost tours I can say this one was the general article. The evidence was REAL. There is a lot of evidence still to be studied and I'm sure more to be researched but we collected alot of evidence. If you want a truly ghostly experience look no further. Just a few suggestions be sure to take bug spray, and lots of water. It was hot tonight. Also if you're ubering to the site easiest drop off and pick up is Tavern Parking Lot right across the street from the meeting spot for the tour at the capitol building. Had to wait 24 minutes for a pickup at the end of the night but there are uber drivers. Definitely ask for Denny he's the best. As a precognative and strong psy factor he's really in tune to ghostly presence he'll show you a good time and teach you alot. Well done Denny Bravo and thanks again for our great time. Our 90 min tour was more like 2 hours. Randy was fun and had great stories to share. Lots of history lessons in there, because you are in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg that is all about history. That made this tour both interesting and entertaining. Very happy our family did this tour (with two teenagers), and everyone enjoyed it. I also found it cheaper than the competition that offered a shorter tour. read more

The tour was extremely informative and I enjoyed that every story related to a ghost encounter. However, I was informed by the company prior to the tour that masks would be required on the tour and I was very disappointed that masks were not being enforced by the tour guide. The tour guide was not wearing a mask, nor were half of the tour group that I was in. This would've been a more enjoyable experience if I hadn't been focused on avoiding the non-mask wearers and trying to maintain social distancing. I also was frustrated that I paid more money for the Extreme Ghost Tour, and majority of my group had only paid for the Original Ghost Tour but were still able to stay in the Extreme Tour. If that was the case, I would've just paid less money for the Original Tour and join the Extreme Tour. If you are concerned about COVID restrictions being followed, I would not recommend this tour. read more

First off, they are not observing safe COVID-19 practices. We watched the previous tour come in and there was no cleaning before we got on. The boat was filled so no social distancing was possible in the boat and no one but our group were wearing masks! Including the guide and boat captain. Second, the story teller we had was terrible! My teenage daughters and I love ghost tours and try to find one every time we travel. Hannah was one of the best tour guides we've had for one of these tours. She was personable, funny, and memorable. Her stories were detailed enough to remember but not so long to be dry. She had more information about many of them should you want more and shared some personal experiences at some locations. The tour was an easy walk through Colonial Williamsburg and was appropriate for all ages. read more

We enjoyed our tour with Randy. He did a good job telling the stories. He was very friendly and engaging. I do wish the script was a bit more about ghosts and less history. If all the stories related to a ghost story, I would have given 5 stars, but since several of the stories had no significance to a ghost it seemed a bit of wasted time. I was so excited to go to this ghost tour but wanted to leave it within the first 15 minutes of the tour. It wasn't good and I felt the guide could have presented the stories in a more capturing way-maybe even dress the part up a little. I couldn't wait for the stories to finish and there was no great ending to any of them. It was a complete waste of time and I wish we had the other group who seemed to have a guide that made his presentation much more enjoyable, but we got Roka. Maybe she is new at this, but I would recommend jazzing her story telling to keep the audience amused. I did feel bad because her peer was right next to her and this threw her off a little as she was distracted by his performance. So, I feel the groups should be more spread out if this occurs as I just wanted to jump over to the other group and have a better experience. read more

Colonial Ghosts was the best. They all had relatively the same stories so if you go to one that's all you need and would recommend Colonial Ghosts. read more

I and my 3 companions went on a Sunday night for the "Extreme" ghost tour. We have been on other tours in DC, SC, NC, and GA so this was not our first rodeo. It started promptly at 9:15p and out guide was a young man dressed smartly as a funeral director. He led us through the streets leading the way with a candel lantern. Beware...the streets are cobblestone peppered with horse poo and dimly lit. Wear sensible shoes! We walked 1.5 miles in a little over 2 hours. At each stop, our guide told a story about the property. While the stories were based on a local history book, our guide had a poor sense of timing and little ability to build suspense. Storytelling is an art and he would benefit from classes. A member of the group was entrusted with a K2 meter with no instruction on how it worked or how to use it. What a waste. Pictures are encouraged but some places are private residences so photography is forbidden. In our photos, there were dozens of orbs and one or 2 questionable catches. This tour was very similiar to others we saw. You do NOT go inside any buildings. Prepare to walk far and if taking pictures, make sure to adjust for very low light. There is nothing EXTREME or scary. I dont regret going but I wouldnt go again. There are better tours (Bacons Castle). read more

This was on our lists of things that we wanted to do and we did not do it. I am giving this 1 star for poor customer service. The only way to communicate with this place is via text. When you do they send you links to the customer website. Hello, after sending me the same link three times and still not having my question answered I was not willing to spend the money as I was not certain which ghost adventure I wanted to go on. You also have to buy the tickets in advance and if it rains you are out of luck . I didn't want to spend the money without talking to a live person or being able to buy the tickets at the time of the adventure. I am a fan. It is what it was. Family fun. We went expecting some drawn out detailed historical ghost stuff. What we got was a nice small group of people with fun attitudes and a tour guide who was great at telling his tales. It began around 9pm. About 12-15 people in our group. My son went with us. I was surprised. He doesn't like this stuff. He went. Walked with us and really enjoyed it so that alone makes me a fan. Our guide let my daughter hold the ghost energy reader thing. Ha. I really don't know what he called it but I've seen it on TV. People passed it around. Every time This one girl held it it just stayed on.... we were all snapping pics hoping to see something. We went by the prison and the red blood house that is a museum. Took more pics. We had a great time. Like I said it was family fun for us. If you are looking for hard core and going in the houses, this is not it. Make sure you know this so you know what to expect and not give these guys a bad review. read more

We did the Extreme tour and had a great time! Our guide had great historical knowledge mixed with some great stories. In front of the Peyton house the rods were reacting to the questions being asked. We did the "extreme" tour. The description of the tour says you go into the most haunted buildings - you DO NOT go INTO any buildings. You are simply walking down the Duke of Gloucester Street for 1.5 miles while your guide tells you ghost stories. You could read those in a book. Now, I'm not going to say that our guide Woody wasn't a good story teller, because he was, but again ... instead of walking in 30 degree weather for 2 hours at night, I could have been at home reading this in a book. This is hardly "extreme" I would rather call this a bait and switch. Don't fall for it. read more
