Important Experience to Share -- Please Read Before Working with Express Employment Professionals
As a Black woman, a mother, and a professional, I feel compelled to share my experience after working with Express Employment for three years. I believe transparency is necessary to protect others who may be considering employment through this agency.
Throughout my time with Express, I was consistently upfront about my responsibilities as a single parent and my expectations for respectful, professional treatment -- both from the agency and at job sites. Unfortunately, what I experienced instead was repeated instances of discrimination, lack of accountability, and disregard for basic respect and workplace fairness.
I was assigned to three different job sites over three years. In two cases, I was let go -- not due to performance or attendance issues, but because I needed to maintain a reasonable work-life balance. My commitment to my child and my values was treated as an inconvenience rather than a reality of life.
At my third assignment, I raised concerns about unequal treatment in the workplace. Specifically, I spoke up about employees taking repeated unscheduled breaks while neglecting their responsibilities. Shortly after asking for written clarification about a sudden and unexplained pay cut, I was terminated -- the stated reason being "work pushback," even though I had raised similar concerns in the past without issue. This sudden shift felt retaliatory.
Despite expressing concerns about unprofessional behavior at this site for weeks, Express initially told me I could be reassigned. However, when I followed up, I was told no positions were available -- even as I continued receiving job listings via text and saw multiple postings online. This inconsistency raises serious questions about transparency and fair treatment.
I found that speaking up -- especially as a young Black woman -- led to being dismissed and gaslighted. It became clear that this agency is more focused on protecting its clients than supporting its workers, especially those who voice concerns or expect equal treatment.
To anyone considering working with Express Employment Professionals: proceed with caution. If you're someone who values professionalism, fairness, and accountability -- especially if you're part of a marginalized community -- you may want to explore other staffing agencies.
