I've been an Express Fitness member for over a decade. A previously great gym, I have grown frustrated with how the parent gym, Executive, seems eager to find ways to nickle and dime members, advertise disingenuously, and how staff attention has waned. Many gyms seem to have a cost model of a sign-up fee plus monthly charge. At New Year, to entice potential customers, the start-up fee is often waived. However, Express is the only gym I know which has started to carry this supplemental forward year after year. When is a $29.99/monthly fee really a $34.16 monthly fee? When they tack a hidden $50 "maintenance fee" onto your account at yearly renewal time. It's slimy fake advertising. If you have issues with credit card numbers getting stolen, Express will want to charge you for that, too. The second time my billing card was compromised and account number changed, Express issued a $35 charge for a bounced $24.99 charge (monthly fee at the time) against a closed card. This fee was $10 more than the actual charge that bounced! Do you want to use the top row lockers so you're not hunched over using the bottom row lockers? Express will want to charge you a rental fee for that, too. The parent gym, Executive, actually locks all the top row lockers so you're forced to use the bottom ones. "Hunch over for health?" In fairness, they're not yet all locked in Hooksett. A friend left Express in 2016 when they instituted the "maintenance fee" and speaks quite highly of his Planet Fitness membership at half the price. Staff there is always out and about cleaning up and organizing equipment, a refreshing change from the mess that sometimes greets late day visitors at Express. (Express also has at least one slob member who trims his beard and leaves the trimmings around the sink which may sit there for hours. This has gone on for years.) There are some pluses. There is new equipment starting in 2018. There is free childcare with ample toys. Care quality varies by employee, however: sometimes there is interactive child engagement, sometimes a student is busy doing homework while the TV provides entertainment. Regardless, I am very happy Express has a nut-free policy. If you care about building functional full-body strength and balance, doing things like barbell squats and dead-lifts are a key training component you can do at Express. Planet Fitness is all about machines so you'd miss those there. I used to love Express, now I sound like crotchety old man describing it. I still go because it's the closest place I can lift heavy weights once or twice a week. I try to work around the class schedule, since many group exercise instructors blast class music so it's louder than the ambient music in the rest of the gym. My "light" days are now at home with a doorway pull-up bar, Bowflex adjustable dumbbells, and an incline bench. A few small fixes, and some integrity in the billing office, would be all it would take to make Express great again. read more

A little more pricy per month than other gyms in the area, but express offers a large amount of machines that I hadn't found at other local gyms. Good classes such as yoga, Pilates, spin and strength and core are also included with cost of gym. Would recommend for residents of the Hooksett area. read more

It's got all the fitness equipment you need. It's 24/7. it's clean & organized. Friendly staff.

This is a great gym! The staff members are all very nice and the facilities are always clean. The machines are typically in great condition and it's rare that I have to wait to use equipment. I also love the child care. They have a separate room with its own bathroom for the kiddos. My kids absolutely love going to the gym because they love the kid area. Due to Covid, they only offer an hour of child care a day but it's better than nothing! read more

Location update. Location was updated inside with new flooring, paint, and new equipment and reopened in Jan 2018. The cost for membership has not changed so far. The management continues to be very attentive to the customers and has even brought back some of the older equipment due to numerous requests for it. Location has a personal trainer who is available during the week. This location, according to management, may at some point go to 24/7 service. That would be a major plus for people who have different work schedules. read more

Just walked in to check this place out after looking in to two other gyms in the area. Right off the bat I got a great vibe from the place and was greeted by friendly staff. The facility is clean and they offer a good variety of classes that are included in your membership. For the price it is exactly what I was looking for! I had checked out a few websites for gyms in the area and this one was by far superior. Big enough that it doesn't feel crowded even when others are around yet not over the top corporate like places I have seen out in California. I got a quick workout in right after signing up and never had to wait for a machine. Josh was great and gave me a quick tour around the place. He informed me that they are even updating all of their equipment which is awesome even though their machines were not out of date. This gym will take advantage of you at every opportunity. Aside from always being overcrowded this gym is a labyrinth of hidden fees and shady practices. In my two years as a member I have had nothing but issues with the cost of this gym. At the end of my first year I got a new credit card and forgot to update it with the gym for both my wife and my account. I was charged two $30 late fees on top of our monthly payments all without being told it was going to happen. A few months later without any warning I was charged a $25 maintenance fee on both accounts, this is in addition to the annual fee also charged on both accounts. After 2 years I decided I would not be wiling to pay another annual fee on top of an increase to $30 a month x2 I called and canceled my accounts early november. Come december I am charged for a month of membership. Thinking there was a mistake I call and am told that there is a 30 day cancellation period that not was previously mentioned and during that time they charge your account as if youre still a member. If you can avoid this overcrowded and shady gym do so at all costs. I would not recommend this gym to anybody unless you absolutely have no other choice. read more

I previously posted that my experience with express fitness was awful and the staff was rude... Today the manager made me eat my words. Josh personally called me this afternoon after reading my review and apologized for my poor experience. After my original post I did end up signing up to this gym and have been a member for over a year and the facilities are clean, staff is great and josh truly impressed me. Not only did he apologize he comped me 3 months of membership out of nowhere!!! Kid has balls and class! read more

I am updating my review after speaking with Josh. He really was concerned with making my experience at the gym a great one. He let me know a new cleaning company was starting soon so that should keep the place looking like the great gym it is. He is also going to work with the front desk staff to make sure someone is there to watch my son so I can be on time to spin. I've been a member at this gym for nearly 2 years now. Previously, about 8 years ago, I was a member here for a year before moving to Derry. When I came back, the gym had not changed for the most part. Same weight lifting equipment and cable machine setups. As of January this year, the gym closed for a week and was completely remodeled. The outcome has been amazing. The monthly rate is cheap in my opinion. The equipment is awesome and in perfect condition (obviously), the dumbbells go up to 160lbs, many barbells and benches, a double power rack setup with deadlift platforms. They have plenty when it comes to cardio equipment and an area to do sled drags and such as well. They offer daycare all days of the week at certain times, which is included with your membership, as well as group classes. The trainers are good and informative and look like they lift, which doesnt always seem to be the case these days. The owner/manager and the employees dont put up with b/s whatsoever (which seems to be the only complaint people have). If that's a problem to you, workout at home where you can leave your weights lying around and soppy sweat puddles all over the place. All in all, this gym is fairly large and not many people know about it due to the location, the mornings arent usually busy at all, but night time can be a pain with it getting crowded. Luckily, capabilities of going 24/7 are already in motion and itll be made into a "keycard" gym soon enough for after hours. read more

The only thing express you'll be getting from here is an infection. This place has the most rapid mold growth in the locker rooms. People constantly wear shoes into the sauna after using the urinal leading to a pungent urine odor in a sweat box. Customers also feel its "okay" to spit on the floor of the sauna and poor water on an electric sauna for "more heat". The floor in said sauna is missing most of the tile but they conveniently "fixed" it by placing a wooden pallet over it. Nothing is ever picked up by staff or even members (I constantly am putting stuff back that I never used just to get to a machine or platform). When these complaints are brought to the staffs attention they quickly dismiss you. If you complain to management he also ignores you. This gym has gotten progressively worse since the 24hr launch. I will be filing a complaint with the health department along with photos to show proof of the dangers of the unclean conditions. read more

Since my last review the manager of Express Fitness has gone out of his way to correct the discrepancy that occurred in the beginning when I first signed up. I will be going on a regular basis now that I have time and everything is cleared up. The gym itself is very pleasant clean and I actually did a Zumba class this morning. The instructor was wonderful and it was a lot of fun. read more

This gym is great, i love the facility and all the equipment. the staff is gray always willing to help. i know i can always go to them if i have any questions. the reason i gave this two stars is because the manager he is so irresponsible and is rarely there ]. its like playing games with him to try to get a phone call back. i have called this place many times to try to talk to the manager but he never responds or is never there. it is almost like he doesn't care about the place. i feel like the staff does a better job at running the place without him there. read more
