This gym is small but these guys are the real deal-they offer expert CF instruction, they are sticklers for form, they explain the context of the movements, and they are very attentive during skill/strength work and WODs. They could not have been more welcoming when I first visited, and I always feel welcome going back. They are a skilled and supportive community of athletes, with a range of skills and ages. If I lived in the area this would be my gym. When I visit typical class size is about 10, which is an ideal size IMO. The gym is small but spacious-it has two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, and excellent airflow. They've got a nice rig that could accommodate about 10 bars simultaneously and an excellent supply of weights and other equipment. It is about as pleasant as a CF gym is ever going to get! I always look forward to my visits.

I did and let me tell you - it was probably one of the best life decisions I've made. The group training & motivation along with Paul's teaching and coaching have you sitting at work counting down the hours until you can leave work and go to Crossfit. The location is perfect since I live in downtown Beverly and the facility is great to work out in. Very large and wide open with a nice industrial feeling as the over-sized garage doors open up on either side and the refreshing sea breeze blows through. My suggestion? Try it. Go there, don't be intimidated and you'll likely instantly see just how cool this place is.

The Coaches- not pushy, patient, funny, dorky, sometimes you want to punch them in the face but their so fn innocent looking you want to hug them at the same time- so, Ok what everrrrrrr, I'll do 5 more burpees The Community- mostly made up of mom's & dad's with a few hipsters thrown in for a good measure & laughs. Very supportive, non- competitive, super friendly..... it's kind of creepy, why is everyone so cool?! Did someone tell them I'm secretly in the CIA or something? The Gym- Its on the smaller side but there's never been a problem with space or the ability to do any movements. Even when there's a large group of ppl the coaches always make it work. The Location- right of exit 54 of 95 in Georgetown, even from a couple cities away, it's very easy and quick to get to! It's also a dead end street in the woods, so when running is involved, no one has to see your sweaty butt dying on the sidewalk other then the other crossfitters doing the same thing. The team at APC has all been fantastic. They initially perform an assessment to see where you are at and form a unique fitness plan to help you meet your unique goals. As your goals evolve, the plan evolves. Since starting I have taken up tennis again and they have also helped me train to gain more confidence when I ski. In this past year, I increased strength and energy levels and lost some weight, but most importantly have found that this semi-private training approach is something I can stick with and actually look forward to. The trainers provide accountability and expertise so I know that I am doing the right type of movement with the correct form. The APC is excellent for established athletes looking to hone their skills, but it is also amazing for people who are just starting out or starting over on their fitness journey.

He really takes the time to get to know you, and creates a personalized training plan to catapult you toward your goals. As an engineer, I love how the system is structured such that your workout is quantifiable and it's easy to track progress. As a busy working human, I really feel like I'm maximizing my time and getting the best workout each hour-long session. I really like the concept of semi-personal training because let's be honest, you don't really need someone staring at you watching you do reps for 3600 seconds straight. Having a few other people there (up to 4 total per session) helps build a sense of community while still providing the attention and guidance you need. As someone who had been on and off the workout train for a bit, I've dealt with gymtimidation at a lot of other gyms, but not this one. The name rings true as this is definitely the most positive and friendly gym environment I've been in! I've never once felt judged here, not even for my weird taste in music. What I value about this personal training experience is that Rob is so encouraging, he makes you want to do better for yourself. I've hit a lot of personal records here, and I've lifted weights that I didn't think I could. At the same time, he will never make you do something that you're not comfortable with. If ever I feel like an exercise wasn't working my body quite right, Rob gives me pointers as to how to adjust the exercise to my body. He's also full of nutrition tips--a one-stop shop for holistic life advice! After just a couple weeks I feel much stronger than when I first started, and I'm equipped with new knowledge and exercises. Maybe most importantly, this experience gives me a new sense of (and appreciation for) discipline which is sure to help me maintain my forward momentum and reach my goals. There is a community here that I didn't know was possible to have at a gym. This place has strength training, weights, fitness classes, and some semi-private personal training. I have been super impressed with the owner, Rob. I have followed him here, after following him through multiple places he has worked at before opening up this place. Over the past 7 years, Rob has been the most dedicated trainer and human being I have ever met. From making me run with the treadmill OFF for 30sec intervals, to more Farmer's Walks than I thought were humanly possible, to getting me to the point where I could do more pull-ups than half the guys that walked by me(and yes, they were obviously unassisted). He made me realize that I was strong, and powerful, and he actually kept me motivated. I have completely fallen off my game the past 3 years, and I cannot wait to get back at it. When he opened this joint up-I RAN my butt in there...and you should too. I have limitations at the moment due to some spine stuff, but Rob is going to work with me as soon as I get restrictions from my PT's and doctors. He will meet you where you are at. If you want to go to a subpar gym and give yourself a pat on the back for going on the treadmill for 30min-be my guest-I've been that chick and it doesn't feel good. The gym has every piece of top quality equipment you could possibly need for strength training and everything is in great condition. The gym is well laid out and there are never more than 5-10 people in the gym at once (many times I'm there alone). And you can't beat the 24/7/365 time open. The owner Paul is extremely friendly and even works out at the gym himself. He provides personal training at the gym and is extremely well informed when it comes to fitness. Overall, there really isn't anything to complain about. It's a great place to exercise for all ages/genders.

Today, I was trying to explain to this poor kid Sam who works there that I'm the one paying him to use the gym, and he shouldn't act like it's my privilege to pay him to use the gym. But again, it all goes to management. A really kind, hard-working female staffer named Kathy told me that Rick bullied her around, too. I know she put lots of work into cleaning the place because I saw her do it. And I think she's been axed because she refused to put up with Rick's bullying. Not too smart, keeping the former owner on; just not smart management. It'd be like Trump hiring Clinton. Coincidentally, she's not the only staff member Rick laid in on with the verbal attacks. Bottom line, management treats membership as if it's our privilege to walk into their gym, and use their tiny, TINY little locker-room. The hot water tank runs out, and because the landlord's apartment is attached to the same hot water tank, the landlord complains because his water tank ran out of hot water. It's the most absurd customer service experience ever. I'm kinda stuck there for a while, but the attitude of the people who works there is a reflection of the management's reckless disregard for membership. Hamilton Athletic Club makes working out uncomfortable and the already absurdly tiny shower room just plain weird.

I rarely get the chance to take advantage of the classes (though I regularly attend tai chi classes on the martial arts side of the building), but the offerings are vast and my friends rave about them. Diana, Alex and staff are so warm and, together with the martial arts staff, have created a family of which my kids and I feel a part. Extra plus that parking is plentiful.

I had allowed myself to slowly and methodically self destruct. Goals became punch lines or fluffy wish lists. I became sad, incredibly sad, I isolated myself from friends and family. I drank and ate everything and anything I wanted without a thought, and I piled on over 130lbs of debilitating fat. At times I felt worthless and hopeless. I walked into the doors of Crossfit free anxious and desperate, but choosing to walk through those doors has led to a series of unexpected and amazing changes. Brandon Peterson, Justin Homsey and the rest of the coaching staff welcomed me into the box with open arms. On my first day, I was literally greeted by everyone in the box. I enrolled into the on-ramp program in order to ease my transition from couch potato expert to CrossFit newbie. The on ramp program was fantastic. The coaches led small group classes three times a week to other beginners to go over the basic movements, and most importantly they were able to set their expectations of CFF athletes. After my two week on-ramp, I dove into the classes and I haven't looked back. Everyday is programmed and carefully planned. If there is a movement you can't do yet there is always a scalable option that will help you develop the ability to do more. CFF is so much more than a gym. This is a family of people with common goals and a common ethos. This is a community that celebrates first place finishers and cheers on the last place finisher with rivaled enthusiasm. This is a community that understands health, fitness, and athletesism are the keys to longevety, and that they can only be attained through hard work and dedication. This is a community that struggles shoulder to shoulder with the aim of simply being better than yesterday. Six months in, I have lost a total of 95lbs. I have rediscovered my enthusiasm for life, and I am developing long and short term goals (and reaching them!!). This is not because I've chosen to do a fad diet, or 7minute ab program, it's because I took a chance, walked in the door, and followed the programming set forth by Brandon, Justin, and the coaches at Crossfit Free. I am incredibly grateful for this community and for our amazing coaches.
