At this point my hair was over 1/3 finished.Everyone else had 2-3 braiders. Then when I made the appointment I said I wanted cornrows wirh extensions and they only did it without it and then I requested beads be put in the hair they said they would have to charge me extra. It was my first time going here. I called same day & was able to get an appointment. I arrived about 9:40 a.m. and was done by about 2:20 p.m. The young lady that did my hair did braid a little tight but not to the point of where I was in pain or I feel like it will damage my hair. (I am also not tender headed). I did request she not braid my edges and she left them out. * * I gave 4 stars because she charged me $20 more dollars than what she originally told me on the phone. (Maybe due to having to do it a tad bit longer than shoulder length.) Then despite the fact I showed her a picture of how I wanted it she didn't crinkle/curl my braids with hot water. I ended up having to do it myself. She also snipped with scissors stray hairs after she finished. * * Overall, I am happy with how my mid back length box braids turned out. They are very neat! I've gotten my hair braided here 4 times In the last year. This place is really good at getting you in and out if you're looking for single braids or something basic (not intricate). As per usual for African braiding places, you do have to be very explicit about preserving your edges. They will catch an attitude with you, but it's your hair. The last two times I went in there I had issues and I won't be back- here's why. The first time I had them quote a future style for me while I was getting my hair braided and was told one price. Showed up to get the new style and *surprise* the price went up. The very last time I went in there on a Monday evening (around 4PM) and the laziest braider got to braiding my scalp up like she was mad at me. I told her I wanted a simple cornrowed high ponytail. She claimed my hair was too slippery (I just blow dried it) so I just grit and bared through it. By braid three I told her I wanted it higher, she said by the time she was done it would be. Wasn't. Once she finished the braid, she snipped the "stray hairs" from the top of my head. Fine. THEN she pulled out a lighter to burn off what was left like THIS IS MY REAL F#^*ING HAIR. I was pissed and to make matters worse I had a headache so bad that a week later I cut the style out of my head. Worse money spent, won't be back. And the braids were sloppy. I got my hair done at this salon (crocheted braids) yesterday and spent 150 on my hair and gave a 50 dollar tip. I got hot and went to put my hair in a ponytail and the lady must have run out of hair. I have half of the head of braids miss! I will be reporting them to state board. First, I would like to say that I would go back. The only thing I hated was actually getting my hair braided being that I'm tender headed. I'd called about 3 to 4 hours ahead of time to let them know i was coming. However, I arrived 30 minutes late and had to wait 30 to 45 minutes. My braids are really neat and they were very diligent. Let me say this though; NO ONE WILL CARE ABOUT YOUR EDGES LIKE YOU DO! I was not surprised that they gripped the life out of my edges. There were 3 people working on my head. I went to this location about a month ago to get box braids. This would be my first and last visit. The salon was messy. Magazines on the floor, Braiders eating than trying to touch your hair, without washing their hands. During my entire visit, all the Braiders working on my hair and others argued like children. One braider didn't want to do my hair and was mad she had too. You can image with the time it takes to get braids that when I left I had the worst headache. I was not tipping for this drama. I have never been in a more unprofessional setting with grown women having no regard for their customers. After a week my hair started unraveling in the middle of the braid. I went back for them to fix and she told me that was my own hair and I should use gel. They refused to fix my braids. I never write reviews but I was so pleased with the outcome that I had to. I got my hair braided at Express Braids on 9/4/15. I went in as a walk in at 10:30am and was done by 12:15pm. I had two ladies work on my hair at the same time. I have never gotten my hair braided so fast. I have worn braids all my life but I stopped getting them done because it took so long. I showed them a picture of the style that I wanted. They said that they didn't have the hair in stock but they could do something close. The braiding is neat and they are quick, but the they braids are not even all the way through so you can tell where my hair stops, the braids are a bunch of different sizes and I asked one of the ladies is she could braid it further down and her answer was pretty much no because she didn't do it. Today I decided to go to this salon to get my box braids done due to the reviews saying that they work really quick. I saw a few people getting their hair done fast but I would say it took the normal amount of time because I arrived at noon and my hair was finished at around 6 PM. The reason I'm giving this salon three stars is because of their customer service. Of course I didn't have any problems directed personally towards me, but if you have children I wouldn't recommend bringing them here due to they do a lot of cursing and today someone had the song "IDFWU" by Big Sean on repeat and it definitely wasn't censored. Then a parent came in fussing about her child's treatment while getting her hair done, and instead of them apologizing and letting it go they fussed about it all the way until I left which was a good 30 minutes. They did a decent job ...I went on Saturday and it was very busy . I prolly waited 30 minutes before they started on my hair Saturday seems to be a very busy day. It didnt take long for them to complete my hair , prolly 4 hours total ..They try and get several people on your hair at the same time , but I guess it based on how many customers they have . I swear at one time they prolly had 10 girls getting there hair braided at the same time . They are African so they rarely talk to you and they speak in their native language alot . This place is horrible! DON'T GO! They don't even deserve the one star for the amount of unprofessionalism they showed! I called and scheduled an appointment 3 days ahead of time for 1:00 and we discussed that my braids would be $80. I got to my appointment ON TIME and I didn't get in the chair until 2:00. Once i sat in the chair the braider by the name of Sarah was very RUDE! She began to YELL at me that the style i wanted was $130 a whole extra $50 than i was told before. She then took down the braids that she had already started and didn't even extend an apology for my inconvenience. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN! I went to another salon but they had 6 people waiting and 12 people in the chair getting their hair done so I called here and they said I can come in at 1pm and it should only take 4 hours to get senegalese twist. Got there a little before 1pm and had to wait till 2pm before getting in the chair. When I got in the chair the ladies was ready to work. It started off with 2 on my head then went to 1,3,4, and at one time I had 5 people on my head. It took in total 3 hours and 20 minutes. The only negative is the price change from when I called in to once I got done. I would suggest to make sure you ask the price before getting in the chair. Other than that it was a great experience. Worse place in the world. Went in early Monday morning to get my goddess locks installed. I was told when I got there they didn't have the hair mc they sent me to the store and I didn't know what hair to get. After texting back and forth the manager who wasn't there, I finally purchase hair. Got back to the store and they started my hair. In the first couple hours I didn't have 2 people consistently on my hair. My hair red ok 7 hours. When I got home I started to really look at my hair and notice my parts were huge and I had maybe 60 locks And I wasn't happy. Literally the next day my locks start slipping out. 3 days later my entire front has slipped out. After watching utube I notice that didn't do my hair properly so this wouldn't happen. I text And call immediate. I went back in and got a refund. Then was told I needed to sit so they can take all my hair out. I went here a couple of weeks ago for small kinky twists and had a great experience! They had me out of there in 2 1/2 hours after a 30 minute wait (due to a client just ahead of me). They were also very attentive to not braiding my small edges like I asked them to. That made me very happy. They listened to my specific needs and did exactly what they were asked and my hair looked just like the picture I provided them. I had 3 braiders working on my twists at once. I have been there twice and it was okay. Today I went in to get twists and sat there for almost twos hours only for them to tell me that they could not do my hair because no one was there that could do them. I called earlier this morning and scheduled my appointment for twists, so I wasn't considered a walk-in. They have to realize that if they hate serving others then they should not work there. I'm super FRUSTRATED & Disappointed! Before I went in I text the owner Kumba pictures of what exactly we wanted. We made and appointment, because I'm maybe what you may called a braid connoisseur. I told her PERIOD POINT BLANK the size length even right down to the parts. Some African Shops will make your parts Big using a lot of your hair and a little extension to kill time, like I said I been rocking braids along time. Thus making me aware of the tricks. The style was micro twist with twisting from the root. The first sign we should've left was when we got there she had a girl starting the twist off braiding which I specified over and over again. I prefer and want you to start them off with twisting from the root. Then she twist from the root and they was rope twist NOT micro again what I specified I even had pictures of the size. She was doing minds and my daughter. My daughter went first, she was making 500.00 bucks off us. But I don't mind paying for what I want. I have a braid lady but due to a unexpected surgery she will be down for a month, and my daughter and I are in a wedding and headed to Hawaii, hence how I ended up at Express Braiding. I corrected Kumba at first she said it will take longer, I said well I told you ALL of this when we spoke and VIA text. She said I CAN do it. Needless to say I watch her for about a hour Checking my daughter hair periodically because I know they will start doing what they want to do. I decided I would run some errands. I came back she had reverted to the bigger size and she was parting big and the length had shorten. I Address her told her those was not Micro showed her pictures again she tried to say it was my daughter hair the good thing about that was the 4 pictures I showed her was 2 of myself w/Micro twist and 2 of my daughter w/her micro twist. So no it's not her hair matter of fact her hair was longer in the picture. I wasted our time, her time and my money. She DIDNOT get 250 and she will not do my hair. We definitely will NEVER EVER patronize or recommend that establishment. We should've left when she first started off by trying to braid versus twisting from the root. I have gotten my hair braided 3 times & the 3rd time was OK but not great and I never really had any problems. This time I decided to get a different style and when I say they did a HORRIBLE JOB.... I kept asking about braids and they assured me it would be right. Well IT WAS NOT.. I've been to this salon approximately 3 times. The first time was fine because a nice young lady (can't remember her name, but she does hair in the very first chair on the right hand side of the salon) did my kinky twist and they turned out wonderfully. The second time was okay because I got the same young lady with one other person who did a good job. The third time was horrific in my opinion. I wanted the same young lady from the first time in which I did manage to have her do my hair, but then they had this other lady who was totally not professional and not nice at all. The vibe I got from her was not good in the least when she was doing my hair. My regular lady had to leave early and all that was left was a few sections to twist and then the hot water dip to make it curl on the ends...Why did this lady miss whole sections that needed to be dipped in the water and sent me on my way with the twist still binded up and entwined. After all that time, I was so ready to go that I didn't notice it until I arrived home. The next day I had to work so I had to try to blend that section with the other hair. I immediately called the next day to let them know and to find out when I could come back to have them finish that part. It was hard getting back in there because of course they were busy. I finally was able to have the sections that were missed dipped after waiting a couple of days later. As I was walking out of the salon, the same young lady was in there and I swear she smirked at me and said she was sorry, which wasn't very sincere due to the smirk. Suffice it to say, I will not go back. I didn't like the inconvenience. Also, there are some reviewers saying that this place is clean and I want to tell you that they are lying or in a different salon. The place is filthy and the couches are atrociously nasty.
