Stopped into Rawson Music on a visit to OKC…read more Great guitar store Nice selection of Acoustic and Electric Guitars , Amps , Etc I like that this is not a chain store and that they have been around for over 4 decades I ended buying a guitar :) Can't wait to stop back in when I'm in town

I…read morebrought in my inexpensive Squire and Harley Benton electric guitars in last week, thinking they probably needed a professional set-up since they were affordable models that are mass produced in factories that probably don't exactly have a very robust quality control process vs. more expensive brands. I was expecting to just drop off my guitars and pick them up in a week or two but to my surprise he cleared off the counter and tested out both guitars and made and made adjustments to bridge and pick ups, electric jack and then made sure they were tuned precisely. He carefully inspected every inch of the guitars including fretboards and all individual frets etc. He advised me that there wasn't any reason for me to have him perform a full set-up as both guitars only required a few minor adjustments. He only charged me $24 and did all of the work on the spot. I inquired about any other products that he recommended for me to keep up the guitars and he advised me to just use guitar polish occasionally as needed and not to worry about oiling fretboard etc. until I needed to replace the strings. He very easily could have recommended and sold several products to me and as a beginner I wouldn't have known the difference so I sincerely appreciate his honesty and advice. I plan on bringing in my Epiphone Hummingbird acoustic to have him work his magic on that one when I get a chance in the next few weeks. I would highly recommend to anybody looking for professional guitar work from an honest business owner. I plan on patronizing his shop for all future guitar services while in OKC and hopefully eventually graduate to purchasing a more intermediate level guitar from his store when my skill level improves enough where it makes sense for me to invest in higher quality instruments.

I randomly decided to come in after looking for a place that would sell button straps for my new acoustic, and wow, I'm disappointed I didn't give this place my business years before. Due to the increase of online popularity and decrease of foot traffic and sales, OKC Music and Sound will be closing soon. This means they have huge sales throughout the store, but much of the inventory has already been cleaned out (darn you people who cleaned out the phosphor-bronze stock). That being said, the owner Robin, was still incredibly kind, helpful, and goofy. The cheapest price I could find for someone in the OKC area to drill/install a button strap into my acoustic was about $40. I am so thankful I decided to search around a little bit more on Google because Robin saved me a ton of money. I got guitar strings, a button strap install, humidity packs, and a peg winder for $13. THIRTEEN DOLLARS. I felt guilty, but that's how liquidation sales work I guess. Robin did mention that he plans on opening a smaller shop doing more luthier type of work, and when that happens, I will certainly be going to him.

There's maybe one person there who genuinely wants to help, but most others either brush you off or try to push expensive products you didn't ask about instead of answering your question. My most recent experience was the final straw. I dropped off my $1,200 guitar for a simple setup on a Saturday. I was told it would be ready by Wednesday, which seemed like a perfectly reasonable timeline. The tech even mentioned he'd call me if anything else came up that needed attention. On Wednesday, I called to check on it. After waiting five minutes on hold (which is about standard for this location), I was transferred to the tech. I explained who I was and asked if my guitar was ready. Instead of a simple update, I got: "If I haven't called you, it's not ready." Delivered in a tone that felt dismissive and unprofessional. He went on to say I was third in line and it could be tomorrow or the next day. I want to be clear: I understand sometimes things take longer than expected. That's not unreasonable. What was unreasonable was the attitude. A better response would have been something like, "I haven't been able to get to it yet, but I'm planning on finishing it tomorrow or the next day." Instead, I was made to feel like I was wrong for even calling to check on the instrument I entrusted to them. This has been a consistent theme at this location: poor communication, expensive pricing, and timelines that rarely match what was promised. Given this, I don't plan on bringing my instruments here again. I would strongly recommend looking at other local music shops that value their customers, communicate clearly, and actually want to help musicians instead of making them feel like an inconvenience.

Usually guitar stores just let you browse and buy strings without input. While we were in there I scanned the acoustics... Laid eyes on an Hummingbird Rosewood, which I had never seen, and gave it a couple minutes... Then bought the strings and went on. On the way back through the other way a week later I was compelled to drop in again to see that guitar... She sounded nice! I spoke for a couple minutes with Evan Pettit who is, I think, the manager. We had a brief negotiation and I walked out with a really nice guitar at a fair price. I could not be more pleased with the level of service and professionalism of both Evan and that store. I love browsing guitar stores and though I live 1400 miles away I do drive through Oklahoma a couple times a year. I imagine I will be stopping in again. You folks are lucky to have a great local music store like this.
