I get severe anxiety in big, crowded places. And that's what this was. It was big, crowded, and…read morefull of tchotchkes I didn't want, need or love. I bought a sandwich and some water and got out of there. I will never return. In fairness to them, the place was surprisingly clean, well organized, seemed well managed. The staff seemed nice enough - just working hard to ring up all the people buying their tchotchkes.

I stopped at Buc-ee's in Madisonville around 8:30 PM. The parking lot was nearly empty, and I…read moreparked my semi truck all the way in the very back of the lot, away from everyone. I walked in planning to spend maybe 20 minutes max just to buy a few souvenirs, snacks, and a few things to take home to my kids and family. Shortly after I walked in, I was approached and told I wasn't allowed to be there because I came in a semi truck. I explained that I was only going to be inside for a few minutes to buy a few items, but I was told they would not allow me to purchase anything. I was also told, "Unfortunately truckers are not welcome." Those were his exact words. That was extremely disappointing to hear. Truck drivers are a huge part of what keeps this country moving. We deliver the products businesses sell every single day, including the products sitting on Buc-ee's shelves. To be told we're not welcome and not even allowed to make a purchase is sad and frustrating. Because of this experience, I will never return to Buc-ee's again, not even in my personal vehicle. I'd much rather spend my money at a truck stop or any business that welcomes everyone and appreciates the people who help keep America moving.

What most maps won't show however, is that this particular station is located in an elevated lot, which is essentially the roof of Woody's Smokehouse - Northbound (#1) directly across from the Shell gas station (#2). While the restaurant / gas station is located on St. Mary's St just off of I-45, one will still need to turn into N Fwy Service Road and drive up a slight incline hill to reach the lot. The supercharging site has a dozen Tesla stalls charging at 250kw along with another dozen stalls dedicated to Rivian vehicles. The lot is expansive -- great for space but less so when heat is bouncing off the concrete in full force. The other bit of good news? Woody's Smokehouse is kind of cool. Without going too hard into a review, they've got a good mix of spacious bathrooms, souvenirs for last minute gifts, and a nice selection of BBQ and comfort foods. I'm never going to be mad about stopping to charge the vehicle while perusing all there is to see at Woody's. Not all charging stations / rest stops are created equal but I have to give this Centerville stop a thumbs up for being more than adequate. It's not too crowded and there are bins for garbage disposal. Iny my book, it is a legit destination for charging, resting, and feasting. ___________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/woodys-smokehouse-northbound-centerville (#2) Not to be confused with the *other* Woody's Smokehouse that is *also* next to a Shell gas station about 100 feet away. I wish I was kidding.

I charged here twice and while it was busy I had no issue finding a space. I charged quickly at the standard rate 36 cents. While I charged I rested and shopped at Woody's Smokehouse. There is also a picnic table. Of note: if you are in a wheelchair you cannot get down to the bathroom. It is stairs only.
