I have been fueling at this gas station for over a year, and I never imagined I would face such blatant discrimination here. What happened today was not just about a cashier's mistake--it was about being dismissed, disrespected, and treated as lesser simply because I am Asian.
When I asked the cashier to check my lottery ticket, his attitude was hostile and impatient. His facial expressions showed nothing but contempt. He miscalculated my change and acted as if I was the one making trouble. Only after I physically recounted the bills in front of him did he admit his mistake. This was not a simple error--this was an employee treating a customer as if they didn't matter.
What made it worse was the manager's response. I sincerely raised my concern, but she immediately defended the cashier and even mocked me, saying, "You need patience. He has worked here for 10 years. Should I send him back to school?" That response made it crystal clear: in her eyes, my experience, my feelings, and even my basic rights as a paying customer were worthless--because I am Asian.
This is blatant discrimination. It is not a misunderstanding, not a minor issue, but prejudice deeply ingrained and openly displayed. As a loyal customer, today I felt the painful reality of being treated differently in America simply because of my race.
Discrimination should never exist anywhere, especially not in a business that serves the public. I am deeply disappointed.
Perhaps it is exactly because of his attitude and character that he has been stuck at a gas station job for ten years, instead of going any further. read more
