We landed in San Antonio and rented a car. Thankfully it didn't have a California license plate. We drove to Luling on our way to Austin. We pulled into the Buc-ee's parking lot. We saw the gas prices. Gas in Texas is more affordable than Washington State. Took a photo with the metal critter in front of the entrance then made our way into the store. Spacious, busy. Bathroom was clean. We picked up some brisket sandwiches and some sodas. Food is more affordable in Texas. We also bought some souvenirs to take back home including a red shirt with the beaver.

Current construction isn't really helping at the moment but this too shall pass. Service has been 99% friendly, always efficient, and the store's been clean. I tend to stop in near midnight or later--after petsits or with insomnia--unless I just pop by for gas on my way to work. They do stock basic grocery items, but all (milk is the exception) have a serious convenience upprice going on. $2.29 for a can of tuna! Fortunately they stock a decent amount of milk and it's always been fresh. I come from dairy people, what can I say, I go through a lot of milk. They have a tire pump which is working more often than not lately. I wish they'd stock the good lemonade again, and the employees have been great about masking since the beginning.

First they knock down Triple Crown... then Paper Bear closes... now this. At least we can still find a legendary Bloody Mary at The Showdown.
