You'd think a restaurant right by a few major tourist attractions wouldn't be great, but the Eye Restaurant really delivered. Located just steps from A'DAM LOOKOUT and THIS IS HOLLAND, this restaurant is the perfect place to dine before or after visiting either. We stopped in at about 2:30pm before heading to the LOOKOUT and had no problem getting a seat. The restaurant is huge! We were seated up on the third level and a waitress came over with menus immediately. Don't worry, they have menus in both Dutch AND English. I went with the burger which was actually delicious and my cousin had some sort of cheese sandwich and a side of fries. I'm actually not really sure this is what she intended to order (I think she wanted to go with a cheese plate instead), but she really liked it anyway. Service was fast and friendly, and we were able to get in, eat, and pay in under 40 minutes. I could imagine that this place offers some beautiful views on a sunny day, but all we really saw was fog. This is the Bar Restaurant part of the Eye Film Institute. Great place.. really amazing terrace and the inside is also great... lean and essential design which matches 100% the incredible museum building. Free entrance, you do not need to get to the movies or museum... but it is a great step to start or end after you enjoyed the Film Institute :) Bar food, a bit more high level than normal bar... bare in mind service is quite sloppy even if they have a very complex table numbering and electronic pads to take your order... at the end who is delivering your food/drinks are students... and well... they need to be trained... maybe because it is still a new business. Over all a great place to spend a sunny afternoon / evening.... oohh... and it is a VERY windy position... but I love it!! read more

Yes, this is the kind of spot where you can work in solitude, people watch, enjoy beers outside with a grand view if the weather collaborates, and even celebrate an occasion with real friends. When you can't handle the good times anymore, you can tempt yourself with an afternoon movie at the museum/cinema, or just get totally lost in the awesome view. Although the free entry permanent collection isn't very large, it's actually quite immersive and a lot of fun. While I was there, there was a dark room showing hundreds of movie frames that let you explore different themes like 'magic' and 'exploration'. It was pretty awesome. They also have what are effectively mini-movie theaters where 2-3 people can watch the entirety of the museum's film collection. I'm not talking about clips here; my girlfriend and I watched about half of Ben Hur before we decided we were hogging and left to give others a chance to play. read more

I really liked Eye Bar for its location and setting. I would love to go back again. Pros: - Great setting! The view from the window shows Amsterdam Centraal from the North side. - I love the interior of the restaurant. They have a very spacious, unusual stair case like stage seats that gives you better view of the outside. Get the seat toward the top. The sunset time would be beautiful! For better seats, you'd better make a reservation. Cons: - Their food and drink are kind of expensive for the quality. I guess you are paying for the location. - The service is kind of slow. This has been a very pleasant surprise. Good service and very good, understated cuisine for very reasonable prices. Nice wine selection, too. And then that view... Come early and snag a terrace seat on a sunny day, and be wowed by the shipping traffic and the Amsterdam views from the 'wrong' side (for reasons that utterly escape me, Amsterdam has always chosen to turn its back towards the IJ river). It might be a tad windy, though, and the eaves don't offer much protection against sun and rain. When the weather is more inclement, you will really want to sit inside; preferably at one of the top tier tables, looking out over the river and down on your fellow patrons -- it's almost like being in a theatre and I suspect that it is supposed to echo a cinema setup. It is quite busy, so be sensible and make a reservation or be prepared to wait in hopes of a table being relinquished by someone leaving early. read more

We sat high up on the upper level and we had a great view of the river and the Central Station. The service was great and the food remarkably and unexpectedly delicious. The Shrimp Croquette and apple pie were the best! Great place to hunker down after seeing the film exhibits and the museum's permanent film collection. read more

Modern setting with a beautiful view of the Amsterdam's central station and it's waterfront. It is worth the short ferry ride. Grab a seat on the outdoor patio if the weather is cooperating or get a terrace seat to take in more of the river. Have a veal croquette and a beer add this to your Amsterdam experience not yet known to most tourists. read more

well, we checked out the Eye-Bar one evening, since people kept telling us that we would have a great view of the city at the place.. well, the view was pretty cool, especially if it's getting dark outside..the drinks were ok, and it wasn't as expensive as we've expected it to be..the ferry-ride is free and the architecture is pretty nice too.. if you do have some free time on your hand, give it a try, but it is not a "must have" for a trip to amsterdam... read more

The food quality remains good. The service seems much improved. The fact that Heineken is now in and La Trappe out is not an improvement.

Take the free ferry from Central Station and enjoy the great view and stunning architecture of this building. Food price/quality is ok but the location, building and atmosphere make up for that :) Great view of Amsterdam, particularly when the weather is nice and the terrace is open. read more

i've never had a meal here before. only had drinks and tried the apple pie. the apple pie was nothing special just a okay. one of these days i'm sure i'll eat something here and update my review. The main reason why i like this place is the view. it's waterfront with huge glass facade that looks out into the water. they also have a terrace that's lovely to sit at when the weather is nice. it's an easy free ferry road to get here. the ferries are located behind centraal station. once your off the ferry you can't miss the beautiful white modern building. If you want a change of scenery from the beautiful historic centrum then come out here and enjoy the waterfront and watch boats and ships stroll by. you can also see some of the more modern buildings while watching the boats go by and have a drink or a bite to eat. read more
