Over a thousand acres in Foxboro and Wrentham, 23 miles of trails, nice and hilly, great place for taking a long hike, dog walking and mountain biking. Good Mountain Biking/multi-use trails, many challenging areas, some areas are muddy year-round. Few picnic tables. Nice fall colors here as well. I visit Gilbert and Borderland State Forests frequently as I live in Norton. Both have pros and cons, but I overall Foxboro is better imo. The wide variety of trails and the mileage of trails is why visit here more. Dog friendly and very relaxed leash policy. Trails are pretty well maintained. Very rocky and hilly. Lots of watering holes, but most are dried up toward the middle of season. Trails are marked via painted trail markers on trees or rocks. Maps are scarce so make sure to snap a pic of one before venturing. The yellow trail from start to finish is ~9 miles alone and most trails interlink with each other. Very easy to get lost if you don't know the park. Parking is free. I usually park on Mill st where the State Forest Fire department is located, but there's probably 10+ parking areas surrounding the park including one off route 1 near Gillette. Con: terrain is tough, especially if you want to run. Also easy to get lost. I can't stress this enough. Take a pic of the map before going in the park. 4/5 stars read more

Great and easy hiking. There are a few trail options and the signs are very helpful. There are great trail options when hiking with kids. This state forest is definitely not stroller friendly though. Parts of the trail were flooded and we were not able to walk around it. read more

So I would describe myself as more of an urban hiker, I follow signs on trails and go on my merry way. That being said, if you anything like me this may not be the best park for you, or maybe if you bring a trail map you can make it work :). Being an urban hiker I didn't think I needed a trail map... uh that was a mistake. It took me a total of 5 minutes to get lost, I'm not even joking. At that point it was more of a journey of how in the world was I going to get back to my car, not gonna lie it was a bit exciting actually being lost in the forest. I eventually found my way back using Google maps as a compass which was good. Also didn't get chased by any bears so that was good too. So why 4 stars you ask, this is one of those it's not you its me moments. If I knew how to print maps and follow directions this place would be awesome. read more

I've become somewhat of a regular here because it is in the perfect place for an after work walk. Still, although I have been here more than a handful of times, I don't trust myself not to get lost. The first time I checked this place out with my friends, we ended up doing more than 2 miles more than we planned because we couldn't find our way back. Now, I rely on my gps to at least give me a direction to head to get back to my car. Still, what I like about it is that there is so much to explore. read more

This is one of the best places in the area to go for a hike. There are several scenic ponds to meander around and a nearly endless possibility of trails to take. We typically like to hike up to the radio tower in the center of the park on one trail and take a different way back to the car. There are boulders, cliffs, and rock gardens all over the place. That scores bonus points for me because I can't seem to pass a rock without wanting to climb to the top of it. Mountaing biking here is just as fun. You can wind your way up some rock infested single track to the top and then barrel down the fire roads. Or meader along the double track that crisscrosses all over the place before coming across a sign that leads you to a bike loop. There's a little something for everyone here and you can ride half the day without seeing the same parts twice. A lot of the single track is very challenging and covered with rocks, but there are still plenty of trails for every skill level. My only complaint is that while many of the main trails are clearly marked there are a lot of trails with no markings and a lot of them that aren't even on the map. The last time I was here I decided that I had had enough biking and wanted to head back to the car. The only problem is I had no idea where I was. Getting lost can be half the fun, but sometimes it's also nice to know where you are. read more

K so, I deeply dig the groove that F Gilbert provides. It's a beautiful forest, there are miles and miles of trails, and unlike 99% of the places I've attempted to hike since moving to the flat lands of Mass a year ago, it's actually kinda hilly. That being said, I've been here four times, and gotten lost twice. Your best bet is to track your route with Runkeeper, and then when you've gone half as far as you want to go, use the app to retrace your path. Trails here are marked, and sometimes even marked clearly, but after a few turns, really, who remembers the difference between the Wolf Meadow path and the High Rock path? Who can remember which comes before which? Not me, apparently. Luckily, the 21st century has my back. Between the free parking, awesome scenery to explore and the fail safes of the iPhone, I will be back over and over again! What a pleasant, safe, clean, lovely park. We stayed on the main trails, so we thought. It was kind of fun getting a bit lost.

I love this place! We park on Mill St across from the ranger station.. I personally like to take the blue acorn trail (bear left where it forks at the beginning) up to the radio tower. About a 5 mile hike round trip, with lots of rocks to climb around on. We did 1700 feet of total elevation climb on this trail, so it's not just a wimpy walk through the woods! Lots of ups and downs and really unique rock formations. We love to bring our dog, and he was completely pooped at the end of this hike! I've only really done the trails off the southeastern starting point, but I definitely want to explore more trails on the northwestern side. read more

Great place for mountain biking or hiking. They (whomever they are) do a good job at maintaining trails. There are great markings on trees for trails but I can't find maps with same markings on it. Maps tell you what trails are named but no color markings on maps. read more

Huge! Clean! I've gone about 10 times and I still haven't finished walking all the trails. I'm a beginner hiker though. Some of the trails had quiet rough terrain but most were easy trails. There are maps posted around the park but its a little tricky to read at first. There is a nice little grill area with picnic tables for parties in the front entrance. This is a great park. Foxboro is very lucky to have this park. read more

One of my favorite hiking places. Well marked trails well maintained. Best rocks, finding indian rock formations is incredible. There is an online map I found that shows the ones that have been documented, will have to look again to find it. Amazing place! read more

Great LEGAL place to ride a dirtbike. Yes I said legal! Using the yellow trail is great. Decent for mountain biking too. Ride responsible and keep it safe. And you won't have any problems from walkers. read more

I am a mountain biker and hiker. There are endless singletracks that are challenging or somewhat easy. Hiking is great with lots of elevation changes and boulder formations. There are ancient indian rock constructions "the stones" throughout. Just a wonderful, outstanding place to spend some time with nature. read more

Awesome place for hiking, mt. biking, and cross country skiing. It's big and has many neat little spots if you like to explore. It is big enough to get lost, so get a map at headquarters or print one from the web site in advance and bring it with you. Note that the trails and terrain are quite rugged for mt. biking - it is not well suited for novices or casual mt. bikers. Borderland State Park in Easton is perfect for those riders. read more
