I will never forget that stressful night in January the night before I had my first job interview…read morein the state of South Carolina (after moving here in December) and spent literally hours trying to find something decent yet presentable to wear. I had out grown all my clothes and literally had nothing to wear except to sleep in. As I looked in the mirror at my reflection I barely recognized myself. How could I have gained this much weight in a single year? I had a pretty bad injury to my foot/ankle in October of 2013 which prevented me from walking and working for awhile but the person I saw looking back at me in that mirror was not me. Or at least not who I wanted to be or how I saw myself. I was just simply not happy with what I saw. I wasted some serious time feeling sorry for myself and my situation in the past but I realized enough was enough. My feeble attempts and my pitiful so called tries at losing weight were just not cutting it. Keep in mind I spent a small fortune in 2014 on gym memberships I tried every kind of diet pill and starved myself in many different lose weight fast fad diets with little to no results. Something HAD to change. I was not happy and the way I felt about myself was UNACCEPTABLE. I also began to have minor health problems due to all my weight gain. The lose weight fast dieting/pill etc was a fools way out. I decided to make a LIFESTYLE change and point my goals into not just losing weight but being HEALTHY and FIT. The photo on the left was in January 2015, the day I decided enough was enough. The outfit I ended up getting (pictured on left) was a SZ-16 women's pants and a SZ-XXL shirt, both from the plus sizes section at JC-Penny's. I looked online for weight-loss solutions in all kinds of areas including places like Synergy weight loss, physicians weight loss clinics etc, I even made appointments for consultations at doctors offices willing to pay whatever it took to be happy with myself again. I had tried gyms in the past and always went strong in the beginning but eventually ended up resulting in me donating my money to them while never even using the membership after awhile. I found Michael Thomas's Columbia Fitness Bootcamp website while searching for an easy way out and decided before I did anything drastic like dump hundreds or even thousands into crazy programs or wasting more money on unused gym memberships I would try this bootcamp. I mean what did I have to lose? It was just a fraction of the cost compared to all the other drastic alternatives I was about to dive into....Going to that bootcamp changed my life forever. My first class was the first week in February 2015 and I weighed in at 188lbs that morning. Mike & Ken both do a great job at keeping the class fun and challenging while still being attentive to each person's limits. Each person in the class has different levels of intensity options as no one person is the exact same when it comes to working out and the workouts are structured to each persons level of intensity whether it be expert or beginner. Each class I went to I felt myself getting stronger both mentally and physically and I was able to slowly increase my intensity levels with Mike and Ken's support. I began to eat healthier (green/protein smoothies etc) and followed Mike's meal plan like it was literally the only meal plan option in existence. The support from the other ladies and Mike/Ken was nothing but positive. Mike constantly educated us on what to eat and what not to eat, which turns out was a part of the problem. Being a part of a group class kept me on a regular schedule to where I HAD to be there those three days a week. All those other gyms where it's go at your leisure or on your own pace was not enough commitment for me. Mike held us accountable for what we ate during the week and expected us to show up for every class which really kept me on point. Six months later, August 2015 I weighed in at 128lbs with a total weight loss of 60lbs in 6 months. But the absolute best part by far is I am healthier (mentally and physically) than I have EVER been in my entire life. The transformation was not just physical, in fact the weight loss was just a small bonus. I can't describe in words how beneficial exercise is for your brain. Working out regularly really affects your moods and endorphin's. I noticed I was much more clear headed, peaceful and happy. Even though I have lost most of my excess weight and am almost to where I want to be physically, it is a lifestyle change. Exercise and eating right is now a part of my everyday life and I realize now how important it is to be healthy. I want to say thank you to Mike, Ken and all the ladies from boot camp for all the positive support and motivation. As the year 2015 comes to a close I look back at how far I have come mentally as well as physically and now I am able to say that I am proud of who I am, all I have accomplished and truly LOVE myself.

I have always been a yo-yo dieter and every few years would take up running for a few months at a time but when it got too hot or too cold I would quit, hating the monotony of the dreadmill. I joined many gyms but always felt super intimidated and out of place and unsure what to do while there, wondering if I was wasting my time and energy by not knowing how to optimize my workouts. Classes made me a nervous wreck, always different faces and no one was there to do anything but get their workout done and leave. I weighed 200lbs, sat on my butt all day at the computer, had major hypothyroid issues, and was desperate to do something but didn't know what to do. I even looked into a personal trainer but the cost was so high and I knew I needed almost daily assistance, not just once or twice a week. For months I had heard my neighbors talk about Burn and encourage me to go and I finally decided to give it a shot. My first thought upon entering was how everyone seemed to know each other, and I was glad I had my girls there so I could cling onto them like a barnacle. My second thought erased the first because SO many women came up to me to say hi and welcome me, simply because they didn't recognize me. Even the head trainer, Ryne, made sure to introduce himself. The thing about Burn is the women there aren't just nice, they are FRIENDLY and it makes all the difference. Everyone there genuinely wants to see everyone else succeed. There is no judgement, only encouragement, pretty much everyone is a regular to their class time so you get to know so many wonderful women. I will not lie that first class I had to keep telling myself "This is the only time it has to be your first day, this is the only time it has to be this hard, if you keep coming it will get easier and you will be so glad you did." I struggled. I was beside a 70 year old woman who was doing so much better than me. We did bicycle abs and I could only lift one leg at a time and after three of them I laid there panting, sure I was going to blackout. We did bear crawls to halfway across the floor and back and were supposed to do five laps. I did one. But I just kept repeating "If you just keep coming you will be glad you did". Two weeks later I did three full laps of bear crawls, two months later bicycle abs were among my favorite things to do. It never gets easier, because we scale everything to our fitness levels(do it faster, more weights added, etc), but I have gotten so much stronger, it helps to know everyone there is on the struggle bus with me, and the sense of accomplishment afterwards is euphoric. Burn is a community, it's a sisterhood, it is everything I have been searching for my entire life. Ryne and Becky are amazing trainers, they genuinely care about the success of each and every one of you. The workouts are always different(I never get bored), always a challenge and designed to give you maximum results. Come to Burn, tell them Lyla sent ya, and I promise you, you will not regret it. 1 year in I have: Lost: 38lbs 10 sizes Gained: So many friends So much confidence So much strength A lifestyle I know I can keep up

I got on my husbands gym membership at the YMCA, I quit. I did 9 Round, I quit.... okay I think you get the point. I quit and there's nothing wrong with that, because those workouts, set ups, places, whatever just didn't work for me. It didn't work for my schedule, my lifestyle, etc. That is until I joined Burn Boot Camp. I've never been a consistent member of anything longer than maybe a month or two. I'll join something and take weeks or months off and my dude will complain and keep asking when I'm going back. I go back sporadically, knowing that this ain't gonna last. I'm not here to sell this place, but I am here to say why this works for me and probably many other women who go. This is my first check in but I've been going since the end of March. I did a trial and then just in time another trial came along and I jumped on that. So it was nice to get a feel of what I would be getting myself into if I actual paid for a membership. Ryne is literally the fitness coach I needed. Idon'twanna pay a ton of money for a trainer and I like being around other women who hi five you and encourage you to keep going and push yourself along with Ryne challenging you as well.. Working out here is challenging (you need that), flexible for my schedule (most days I go at 5 AM, sometimes at 8 AM, sometimes at 6:30 PM). If you have kids and you're a member, they have childcare at certain times. Ryne does personal check ups with you at the camp (after a workout, before, whatever) to make sure you're on track with your goals. PLUS! Sometimes the music be on point. Every now and then the music is a bit corny but luckily there are those around me, including Ryne pumping me up so I can ignore that. It doesn't get any better than this... for me. I would urge anyone to keep searching for what works for you. If you're a serial quitter... maybe you're just bored with where you are, you need some personal attention, maybe you need a little more encouragement or whatever you're doing isn't working for you anymore... give this place a try.
