The coaches are great and know everyone by name, members are friendly, and every workout kicks my butt and leaves me happy I came. It's really a judgement free and fun workout where you get out what you put in. I have been looking for something that integrates circuits and strength for a long time, and they just added a ton of new class types to the schedule so you can do the mix that is right for you. I also like that they offer two AM and two PM classes weekdays to fit any schedule, as well as Saturday AM classes and an occasional freebie Sunday yoga.

Started doing personal training with Natalie S. After one session I feel like a whole new person. She listened to my concerns and my goals and tailored a regimen to my specific needs. Love the Chill Zone - just wish it was included in the membership instead of $20 a session (you do get one free session per month which is nice). The infrared sauna is a great warm down! Grateful for this community and excited to try out more classes. Just wish there were more offerings, the classes I like are only offered once a week.

I chose this gym for the convenient location and easy parking. I'd never done a full walkthrough,…read moreso I popped in one afternoon and was genuinely impressed by the old-school vibe. It felt like a perfect match for someone who appreciates real gym culture over shiny boutique studios. But the longer I trained there, the more the cracks started showing--and they add up fast. The equipment is a mixed bag. The free weights feel satisfyingly heavy (old-world heavy, great for pumps), and I really loved the turf area--it's loaded with punching bags, sleds, aerial bands, kettlebells, Bosu balls, a vibration plate, and more. It's genuinely impressive... when it's not a zoo. People constantly cut across paths or leave equipment scattered everywhere. Lanes or some basic traffic management would make a huge difference. The machines, mostly older Techno Gym and Hoist units, are where things fall apart. Many have off motions, some are missing weight scales entirely so you can't even tell what you're lifting, and the abductor/adductor machine has a weirdly tilted seat that forces awkward positioning and incomplete reps. The locker room was a constant frustration. Way too small for the traffic, with tiny lockers that barely fit a gym bag--forget squeezing in shoes, a phone, or a hat. It's also uncomfortably hot with terrible ventilation, and the black toilets plus lack of any real vanity area made post-workout routines feel like a hassle. Same story with the abysmal shower water pressure. Nothing about the space felt luxurious despite the "low membership, high quality" marketing. The infrared sauna gets plenty hot but is clearly showing its age (the teak creaks like it's begging for maintenance). The cycle studio is actually awesome--super dark and built for intense rides--and the yoga studio with skylights and soft wood floors is cozy. The stretching room has a stretching cage and free percussion guns, but with only one cage and limited space, it quickly turns into a crowded mess. Two reformers are a nice touch, though. The recovery area has real potential: hot bath, cold plunge, red light panel, and Norma-Tec boots. But everything is pay-to-play after the first use (one free recovery session per month, $35 extra after that; InBody scans are $15 each). At my previous luxury club, these were included with your membership. They send a cute monthly newsletter highlighting employee of the month and new equipment, which is a nice touch, but it doesn't hide the feeling that the club is running on limited operating capital. Everything feels a little gimmicky and nickel-and-dimed. I really wanted to love this place for its old-school soul and solid turf setup, but at $199 per month, the headaches and lack of luxury simply aren't worth it. I'll miss the turf training the most, but I won't be renewing. Best avoided unless you're okay with paying premium prices for a dated experience.

This review is long overdue, but so well deserved. EWB was an amazing experience. Over the year or…read moreso that I was there, I saw amazing improvements to my physique, posture, strength, and overall health. It was the best shape I'd been in since high school. For starters, the gym itself is small but well-equipped. It doesn't have the bloated feeling of big gyms, yet you can get the same quality of exercise in it that you might there. But what really makes EWB are the trainers. My earlier experience there was with a friend and trainer of mine named Diana, who was super cool and knowledgeable and really helps you enjoy working out. When I went there a couple of years later, I connected with a guy named Jonathan. Super knowledgeable both as a trainer and in anatomy and physiology. He was able to keep my technique safe and appropriate and give explanations for why we did things at all times. I was enjoying my experience so much that I started going up to 4 or 5x a week. That's when I had the pleasure of working with Sara and Jenn. Sara was able to keep working out simple and effective, and she always offered great nutritional advice to make sure that I got the biggest return on my investments. Jenn, meanwhile, gave me much needed help with mobility and provided bodywork to ensure that my body was a well-oiled machine while it endured weekly rigor from both training and work (which was also physical for me). When someone didn't have time to see me, the owner, Nicole, would work with me. She challenges you in a way that makes you feel capable, and I owed a lot of growth in confidence to her during my time there. I would highly recommend this establishment and its personnel to anyone serious about making healthy improvements in their life. I still recommend them to friends and colleagues of mine regularly.

From my very first sessions, the coaches learned my name, my strengths, and my goals and that personal attention has never faded. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming. I've never once felt intimidated or like an outsider, which is rare in a group fitness setting. There are tons of regulars here (a testament to how good it is), but they embrace newcomers with open arms. Even partner workouts are stress-free because the coaches thoughtfully pair you up based on size and capability so no awkward moments or feeling left out. The programming is strength-focused, not just endless reps or HIIT burnout. Every workout challenges you to grow with proper form and progressive weight. Coaches don't just stand back or sit on their phones, they are constantly walking around, giving constructive feedback to keep you safe and improving without ever making you feel judged. The gym itself is solid: clean, open concept, brand-new equipment. The music keeps things fun too - each trainer has their own personality and favorite playlists - one morning might be punk/rock, the next hip-hop, and another high-energy house mix to fuel a Friday which makes classes fresh and motivating. I was skeptical about the 3-week programming format at first because I hate routine and predictability, but I actually love it and it wasn't even a learn to love it experience. Having back to back weeks of the same program is like having a personal trainer because you can track your weights and really see progress more easily. (And if you're not feeling a particular workout, it's easy to swap/avoid that day hehehe). Booking is simple, even same-day, and rarely you'll see a waitlists or stress, plus the cancellation policy is super reasonable. What really sets Locomotion apart is how much the trainers care. James, the owner, checks in regularly with personal texts to make sure I'm getting the most out of my membership. When I had back pain after a vacation, he offered a free 1:1 consult to help me safely get back into training. He even worked with me when I had an unexpected billing issue with my old gym - something he absolutely didn't have to do, but did because he genuinely cares about his members. If you've been looking for a gym that combines the energy / discipline of group fitness with the attention of personal training and a community that will make you feel right at home - Locomotion is it. I can't recommend it enough.

i love working out. always have…read more but finding the right place...that's different. it's about energy. chemistry. whether you belong there or you're just another membership fee. most gyms feel transactional. like you're paying for access to equipment and nothing more. not this one. locomotion athletics gets it. gets me. in ways i didn't even know i needed to be gotten. listen. i used to be the person who smiled politely when coaches would say things like "you'll be able to do this" or "trust the process" and i'd nod along thinking...sure, and maybe i'll sprout wings while i'm at it. i was wrong. they were right. about everything. i'm doing things now i never imagined: lifting weights that used to seem impossible. pulling myself up from bars i could barely hang from. the coaches here...they see something in you before you see it in yourself. and then they wait. patiently. while you catch up to their vision. am i still coming to terms with the fact that they were right all along? absolutely. it's humbling in the most beautiful way. the programming here isn't just smart. it's intuitive. like someone crawled inside your body and figured out exactly what it needed to wake up. every workout feels purposeful. intentional. like a conversation between you and your potential. and the community... the community! this isn't some sterile fitness factory. this is a place where people show up as themselves. where celebrations happen for first pull-ups, personal records, and simply showing up on days when showing up feels impossible. the coaches don't just correct your form. they see you. really SEE you. they know when to push and when to hold space. when to celebrate and when to simply nod with quiet understanding. i'm stronger than i've ever been in my life. EVER. which feels poetic since i have a book coming out that's probably going to ruffle some feathers. (nothing wrong with a little self-promotion, right? "i wish i was worse" coming nov 9!) there's something deeply satisfying about knowing that when the inevitable fights come from what i've written about people, i'll be ready. the strength i've built here isn't just physical. it's the kind that holds you steady when the world decides to have opinions about your truth. this place doesn't just build bodies. it builds the kind of person who can handle whatever comes next.

I went to the outdoor bootcamps with Justin, and being a professional in the fitness industry myself, I was so impressed and inspired by his methods. Justin is a very passionate person when it comes to fitness, health, and the safety as well as progress of his participants. He is thorough when explaining each exercise and its benefit, attentive in monitoring every single person's form and execution, and also just very patient-- even when people were being sassy with him, complaining about everything from the music to the intensity, he always remained positive and motivational. The workouts are hard, but while Justin pushes everyone to do their very best, he never yells at you or makes you feel incompetent if you need to modify or take a break. And while the workouts exhaust you, they really do invigorate you at the same time. No energy is wasted on just being winded or confused. Justin is very precise and extremely knowledgable about everything he's giving his participants. There is always a reason behind everything he does, whether it's the order of exercises or the fact that he gives you a short time to use up your Groupon (so that you workout more frequently to actually see results!) He also does his best to learn the names of all his participants, which is nice! Even in my short time with him I saw results and improvements in my endurance, my strength, and developed more of a fearless attitude when it came to facing tough physical challenges. Very grateful for this experience and would definitely recommend to anyone who is just trying to get fit, lose weight, be more healthy, get stronger, try a new activity, or add an extra boost to their routine. I've also made some good friends and while it's a solo activity for the most part, you definitely do team workouts that make it more challenging and help you push and support each other. Kind of a funny side note, it was another two friends that convinced me to buy the groupon and I am the only one who stuck around for more than one class :-) So I'd say this boot camp is for the committed.
