This store is awesome. I'm just starting out sewing and was told to go to this store. Not only did they have a nice selection of fabrics, they were cheap. They had bolts ranging from $1 on up. There was a whole $1 section. It looks like the average price was around $4 a yard. Plus, they were very friendly. I told them what I was looking for and they got it for me. Plus, even warned me that some of the fabrics I choose will shrink so it's better to getting it a little longer and make sure to wash them so they shrink before sewing. Good experience especially for a newb like me. Forgot to mention they also carry a wide selection of sewing accessories like zippers and the bins of buttons. read more

The new location is bright and clean and wonderful! I'm really happy that they moved... A lot of the fabrics they have are cheap but some are really nice, it can really be a hit or a miss if you need something specific. At the beginning of the year, I re-visited Fabrix in search of a ponte knit. I knew that it was a hit-or-miss mission since they get designer fabrics after it's been sold through the wholesale chain. A decade ago, I had stumbled upon Fabrix and found the perfect ponte knit. This time I found mainly solid and printed silks (chiffon, organza, georgette, crepe de chine) and other fabrics that no one wanted the first time around. There were cheap buttons, zippers, and other notions but I go to Scraps SF if I need to buy zippers in bulk. I'll wait another decade before returning to Fabrix to sniff out a bargain since parking can be challenging. I recommend you visiting Fabrix at least once to see if their fabrics are a match, especially if you're making bridesmaid, prom, or quinceanera dresses. read more

Absolutely love this little shop. The ladies that work there are great, and you can't beat the prices. There isn't a huge selection of Quilting fabric, but at 3.99 a yard, I always find a few things to add to my stash. And the prices on their notions can't be beat. Parking here can be a challenge, but often my husband drops me off and circles the block while I shop. read more

There's a short lady in a yellow and white stripe shirt telling me that I was on my phone and hands not sanitized and my hands were sanitized before I came in but they have a sign saying hand sanitized before coming in but no sanitizer anywhere by the sign. read more

The prices are good but the place is not well organized. The employees were not willing to help and never asked what we we're looking for. Once we asked for a help, an employee walked past us then turned around and said one word. They were also telling us to hurry up when there was still 20 minutes left till closing.... read more

I recommend this place. Went there at lunch time and it was a nice experience. The place looks relatively small, but they have lots of stuff and the prices are excellent!. I spent close to an hour touching all of the fabrics and materials, practically examining every square inch of the store. The employees were helpful when I asked questions, but were not pushy at all, letting customers peruse at their leisure, which I appreciate. The store has a wide assortment of items for really decent prices. It could be better organized, but the maze-like browsing was an adventure in and of itself. While I was there, I heard one of the employees (seemed like the manager) inform customers on two separate occasions, when they were checking out, that the fabric they were purchasing was slightly damaged because of fading from the sun. It was barely perceivable to the eye and the customers had not noticed. It made me trust him and the store, and I will definitely be back to browse again. read more

If you ever need bigger/wider swaths of fabric, this is the place to go. They have so much fabric for you to choose from. I came here on a whim to find some new and fun fabric. And I found a lot that I liked, and at a really cheap price! This is definitely the place to go if you wanted fabric for big projects like curtains. The available lace was just beautiful! read more

I used to like the old location, but not like the new place. Staff working there always looks so busy, not sure it they are really busy, but not willing to help... and very unfriendly. But their fabric are always good, so I go back again when I am in the city. read more

I admit to a great disappointment when I shopped here. I was expecting their advertised $2.99 bolts and a lot of variety, but the reality is that most fabric is priced over that, with upholstery fabric around $16/yd. I found the selection extremely small and very unvaried: mostly solid colors of cheaper polyester blends and sheers. The small number of knits and eyelet were $5.99/yd. If you need notions, this would be the place to purchase. The separating zippers, buttons and trim are all reasonably priced and worth a look. If you are making apparel, however, this is not the place to find your fabric. I made a special trip to SF based on reviews but will not be going back. read more

This is my friend's favorite fabric store. Last time we went they got a great deal on a bunch of fabric. There's a lot of creative material for people to work with. The whole shop had a nice atmosphere to it. read more

Some people seem to love this place. Maybe they enjoy taking the time to look through poorly lit, disorganized, unattractive fabric displays to find hidden bargain treasures, but I am not one of those people. I went here because it came up in a search for "quilting supplies San Francisco." In fact Fabrix had only a tiny assortment of cotton fabrics and no visible quilting supplies other than needles and thread. I have nothing to say about whether the staff is friendly and helpful--they may well be--but I was so put off by the aesthetic of the place that I left without speaking to anyone. The prices were very cheap, so it might be a bargain hunter's delight. But it should not come up in any search engine as carrying "quilting supplies." read more

For student projects, buying fabrics here can keep in on budget!!! Prices for good quality fabrics is reasonable and can produce great end results for garments you are trying to make. read more

I love this place for odd pieces I need for custom dressmaking...there is a lot of cheap fabric but I only go through the fine silks and wools...there is the bargain...and they are very nice tho sometimes very busy. They know what's in there ( can't imagine) and will find it for you. Very good deals on odd zippers, buttons and laces. read more

It's been awhile since I've visited this place - but it left me with a feeling that the ladies there did not appreciate my patronage. One lady seemed very unhelpful and incompetent - you ask her where to find black cotton fabrics and she points to an area of all the black fabrics and says it's in there somewhere but she has no idea which fabrics have cotton because "it's organized by price". Very unhelpful and curt in her response. Then later when you bring linen to the register, she says, that's a linen blend - as if to be very knowledgeable, though completely useless to you. You give her a huge roll of fabric and ask for 10yards, she says 'there's probably not enough in there for 10yards" - while the bulk looks like it has 50 yards in there. Not surprisingly, she's completely off - and you wonder what her value add was? 2nd lady seems more knowledgeable - but very unfriendly when you say hello, doesn't respond back and then walks away to the back to show you she's too busy to help you - but then returns while you are paying and says very loudly to another customer, "how can I help you?" - so you are clear that she doesn't want to serve you and is completely passive-aggressive about it. Messed up customer service - too bad Moon Fabrics is no longer around on Clement. Unfortunately, not much fabric stores left in the Richmond - so you gotta deal with two crazy characters from the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants. read more

I was hoping to find some modern looking fabric here, but did not find anything very attractive. Most of the fabric was not my style, and might be better for grandma's couch pillows rather than a hip project for teens or kids. read more

This is such a great store. Beth is a class act. Always patient, incredibly knowledgeable and very creative, she is our "go-to" person for anything fabric related, and makes us loyal customers to this store. Her patience with children coming in to projects is unmatched ANYWHERE we have seen. Consequently, we steer any craft project we can do to Fabrix, and our daughter is only too elated to go visit Beth and purchase fabric from her. She is responsible for an amazing number of beautiful results in our DYI home projects. Her help transformed our daughter's bedroom/bed frame from plain, and uninteresting to beautiful at a remarkably reasonable price. The rest of the staff is wonderful as well, so I hope I am not undermining them with my praise of Beth. I will try to post pictures later of the beautiful use of fabrics that Beth helped us with for my daughter's canopy bed, dress, belts, purses, etc. This is a great place, and the prices are remarkably affordable! read more

Wow! Went into today and was greeted with beautiful quilt fabrics at $3.99/yard! I guess I'll be stopping in at least once a week now! This was the first time I've seen so much quilt fabric in this store so I was very impressed. read more

Junky. Don't expect to find high quality fabrics and trims here. Most of their old stuff is solid colors, linings and cheap synthetics. Same as their old store at 2nd and Clement, just larger. Nothing on trend. Not worth the drive. Metered parking on grimy Clement St. is difficult to impossible. read more
