My colleagues and I had such a great time at the terrarium workshop. The instructions were very clear and thorough but they didn't hover too much and allowed us to chat with each other. While I am very crafty I fell like this could be good for any range of talents. The rug tufting workshop looked like a lot of fun! I'll be trying that one out next!
Brief summary: - Located around the financial district vicinity - Went with a group for a work-related event - Surprisingly easy to do, after learning the basics and the pre-cautions - Projects are cute and small sized, large enough for a cat to lie on - TLDR: I would like to do this again I attended this arts and crafts workshop with my work colleagues. I always wanted to do this since I was first introduced on a social media app. This building is, I would say hidden, between the financial district streets. Fortunately, there is a sign propped near the entrance, in case you are struggling to find the location. The staff is very kind and instructed how to use the tools well. Safety was first rule, so we learned how to handle the tuft guns. They also provided Turkish delights and tea as they explained how to use the tools. The tutorial was split into two sessions, and we learned each after a certain amount of time. My personal learnings is that outlining was hard to do, so I would not have drawn thicker lines inside a larger piece, but I did like how the double outline looked great on the exterior. I also suggest looking at the yarn color options before choosing the template you want because that could change your expected outcome. They offered a variety of standard colors, but if you were planning to make detailed gradations that could be difficult.
It's definitely a FUN event to go to w/ friends or to do as a group activity. I had a lot of fun and was focused when I was trying to design my lamp. You don't have to but I would look at couple of designs for the lamp and style you want online so you have an idea of what you want before coming in. Parking: If you don't live in SF and drove, I would come earlier to find a parking. We came on a Sunday so parking was free and the city wasn't crowded. The process is fairly simple and the instructor will explain before the class. There are some tea and a sweet treat for you if you wanted to try a turkish delight. Giving it a 5 stars because I had forgotten a piece of my lamp when they wrapped up in a box for me to take home and when I reached out to them, owner responded right away and I got the piece within a week and was mailed it to me! Because of our poor experience the first time, the staff was kind enough to offer us a makeup course to have a better experience. This time we did the Turkish lamp workshop. I will say, when there isn't a 20 person birthday party, the vibes are way more relaxed and chill. It was a lot more fun this time around and there was no shortage of resources or help from the teacher. Hopefully the first experience was an exception then, making the lamp was super fun and a good activity to do with friends and there were lots of color options. Zee was a great instructor!!

Firstly we knock on the suite door and nobody answers, so we start calling out until we eventually go in ourself and find the employee all the way in the back with music playing. She did not know what class we were there for, nor did she know about the coffee add on we had until we notified her half way through the class. I was hoping the employee would be around to answer questions we had but they were in another room teaching a desperate workshop as we stayed with the lamps. Then as we were leaving she almost packed our lamps with the wrong stands as again she did not know we ordered the swan and moon stand for our pieces.
Kadir was super helpful, we had a great time! He was very patient with explaining and demonstrations, very happy with the experience
An awesome experience with Mr. Scientist! We found the tufting experience through Yelp and booked through their website. At the time there was a 30% of promo which was fantastic. Upon entering, we were greeted with freshly brewed Turkish coffee and small snacks. The overall experience was great and he did a nice job of leading us through the steps, providing examples and stepping into help when needed. The total activity took around 3 hours for a 28" x 24" frame. First you trace your design on the canvas with a marker, then choose your yarn (there's plenty of colors), and finally you can start tufting. Pro-tip bring a simple design to tuft as it can be quite a learning curve. Generally straight lines with less details are easier to do so keep that in mind. After finishing the design, Mr. Scientist will shave the rug to make it level and glue a backing on so you have to come back to pick it up. Just keep that in mind if you're from out of town.

Recommendations: if you would like to take your time with the designs, a 2.5 hour or 3 hour time slot would be better! 2 hours passed by quite fast. Additionally, the materials used can be quite sticky on the hands, it would be helpful to have sanitizer wipes to assist with this as it can be distracting during the design process.

We didn't leave the place till almost 5pm , which took up four hours of our time. Personally, I thought the process was kind of messy. We didn't practice beforehand , and we were thrown in the wolves to figure out ourselves. We did get a demo, but I wish we can practice a little beforehand. Since it was a group of 6-8 people , the instructor wasn't able to help everyone. There wasn't ton of colors to choose from compare to other tufting workshop. I wish we had a projector to outline the shape , so it will be easier to tuft. And the board outline was surrounded by metal needles that were scratching my hand, I got 4 scratches on my hand. And we had to bend our back to other side to shave off our rug , I wish there's better instructions like lay it flat on the table to shave it. I guess there wasn't enough space to do so. Instructor was nice, but I feel the whole tufting process was messy and instructions weren't clear.
I joined a Turkish mosaic lamp making class on a Tuesday and it was the highlight of my week! Kadir is incredible, he is so warm and welcoming into the studio. He took the time to explain each step and provided a great atmosphere. I don't consider myself to be artistic or creative, so I appreciated the example patterns on the placemats in front of you. It was a soothing experience and I'm very happy with how my lamp turned out! I would recommend anyone take a class here and I'd like to check out the rug tufting classes next time.
Well paced and unique experience in SF. We did the rug tufting class which took about 3 hours. The instructors were helpful and there were lots of yarn colors to pick from. I recommend coming in with a simple cartoon design in advance to not waste time at the start.
Work partner wanted to treat us out tonight and we picked to try our hand in rug tufting. What a fun experience with Zee (sorry if I misspelled it!)! No one had any experience with it but all of the rugs came out awesome! You don't realize the amount of work that gets put in it (until you do it) but when you see the final results, it's like a pat on the back. Everyone is happy with their creation so a night well spent. Thanks for the awesome experience and hopefully we'll be back!
I went about a year ago, and tried out the rug tufting workshop. It was so fun! They went over safety protocol and how to tuft, and we picked our own designs literally just from browsing google images. They have an area in the back that has so many different balls of yarn colors to choose from and different shades of each color too. You set up a sheet onto a wooden frame and first draw out your design, then tuft onto it with the rug tufting gun. Once you get used to it, you can go decently fast. Had a wonderful experience learning how to tuft rugs as part of a work event here. The staff are super friendly and welcoming and the place itself is super cozy and well organized. All the tools and materials needed were ready-to-go. Grateful to have had the opportunity to learn a new skill and create something we could take home with us. Parking can be challenging-I ended up at the Safeway lot on King's street which was quite convenient. Thank you to Arts and Crafts Workshops for a great experience! read more
Such an amazing date night adventure! We'd never tufted so we had a really nice night with India - just 4 of us total. We got the rundown on how to use the machine and make whatever we wanted - the whole start and end was well done. There was ample yarn of any color we wanted too! We were checked in on often but also left to our own devices to focus on our tufting. It was kind of a core workout in the end too! It's expensive, but totally worth it for the lesson and equipment and experience. read more

What a fun chill class! Hard to mess up bc it's quite forgiving. Unlike other rug tufting classes you can choose your own pattern! So come with an idea :) Great instructors who help ya out if you need. Highly recommend doing this class with a friend. 3hrs of relaxation and fun! read more

Kadir was an amazing host and his workshop went by so fast! We both came as amateurs and left as artists in the making lol. He was very knowledgeable in what we had to do and all the safety precautions to take when handling these equipment to make sure we're 1)doing it correctly and 2) not losing any limbs in the process ;-) I'd like to also add that Kadir was very communicative with me during the entire process as I had to reschedule my first appointment and he was nice enough to help me reschedule for another slot. I will definitely tell my friends about him and recommend his rug tufting workshop! read more

My sister got us a gift certificate, i didnt even know rug tufting workshops are jn The City! Came here on a date and had SUCH a great time! Teacher was friendly, welcoming, and skilled. We learned a lot and we're so happy to make a rug. The supplies provided were great and easy to use. Yarn choice was pretty. Studio was spacious and lots of natural light. Highly recommend. Having a place yo take a picture at the end was an extra bonus read more

I tried rug tufting with a friend and had such a great experience! The teacher was very kind and attentive and helped everyone create their own masterpiece. The length of the session was perfect for finishing the rug. I would definitely try this again. It was an excellent class for beginners, so you don't need to worry about your level of experience before signing up. The class started with the teacher approving everyone's designs. We then got a sharpie to draw our design on a canvas. After that, the teacher gave a demo of how to use the tufting gun. Every student got to try the tufting gun on a practice canvas before working on their own piece. The teacher was always available to ask questions and even gave out Turkish coffee for us to enjoy while tufting our rugs. The whole experience was very fulfilling and I think everyone was pleasantly surprised at how good the rugs turned out. The class is a great value for the price and I definitely recommend it if you have the chance! read more

We had a phenomenal experience rug tufting for the first time. Kadir was an amazing host, he taught us well and even treated us to an amazing cup of turkish coffee. Will definitely repeat this experience a second and third time! read more

So much fun!! I took my fiancé here for his birthday as a surprise and I'm so happy we came here. The teachers were so attentive and gave tips, which was great because it was our first time tufting. Kadir and Mustafa were the best and had great banter and were there whenever we needed input. Highly recommend for any and all occasions, or just because. 10000/10, will def come back. read more

Before I came to this studio, I was intimidated by the thought of making my own rug due to my lack of drawing skills and creativity. However Mr. Scientist was very informative and friendly. There were snacks and refreshments provided as well. He also offered Turkish coffee for anyone who was interested. The whole experience was very fun and not as overwhelming as the videos I watched on social media. I would recommend this place to my friends and anyone looking for a date idea. read more

Booked this through ClassBento and I had a super fun time tufting with my friends. Kadir was very helpful and supplied us with all the different colored yarns and tools as well as snacks/Turkish coffee! The class was easy to follow and the initial tutorial was very informative. Might be helpful to have an idea or design in mind prior to the actual workshop. Enjoyed being creative and it actually was a bit of a workout. Would definitely do it again ! read more

LOVED THIS EXPERIENCE!!! I normally don't write reviews, but this was one of my favorite hangout ideas ever. If you're ever in the local san francisco area and you want the perfect indoor activity - this is the place. I was able to make my dream little rug for my college dorm wall, and I couldn't be happier! They have such a wide selection of colors for yarn, and the instructor was so incredibly patient. He made sure we all knew what we were doing, and always came by to check on our progress. Including my sister and I, we had around 15 ppl in the class but everyone got the help they need and left on time or even early with a beautiful rug. They were incredibly nice and helped us when we weren't sure how to proceed - you are sure to go back home with a beautiful piece of home decor! read more

Our experience rug tufting for the first time was 10/10! By chance we found this through instagram - @tufting.me Booking directly on the website gave the best price. Forreal a great value compared to other rug tufting options that we did not have to travel to the south bay for. This one is actually located in San Francisco! Walking distance near Montgomery BART, easy access for transportation and located in a safe area near other businesses. Buzzed in at the entrance door and walked up stairs, then greeted by Kadir. Kadir provided a clean and welcoming space - pre-setup tufting frames, clear instructions, safety tutorials, hella yarn color options, and gave helpful tips in perfecting our matching friend rug pieces. Snacks and Turkish coffee were provided to restore our energy during this 3++ hr long tufting session. We're interested in coming back for another rug tufting session or trying one of the other workshops he provides (terrarium or mosaic lamps). read more

We found Mr. Scientist's rug tufting workshop through Airbnb and we all had a blast. He was very welcoming, did a fantastic job guiding us through the process and making sure all of our designs came out as well as it can! Would definitely recommend it to anyone else thinking of a team building activity. read more
