Like a lot of people, I was unemployed during the Great Recession. I received some correspondence that to continue getting benefits I had to enroll in a school. Based on recommendations from friends in the industry, I had another school in mind and I mentioned such to my unemployment coordinator. They seemed to drag their feet on my choice, instead leaning and emphasizing on New Horizons. So I went, sat through their sales presentation and started.. Their concept is "Mentored Learning" - a fancy way to say "Self Study". I was given a book (very plain and lacking in examples), headphones and sat in a room where the person sitting next to me was taking a completely different course. Trying to get assistance from said "mentor" was an excercise in pulling teeth. I started working again about a month after starting said "classes" and got my first certification mostly through studying from home with the book I bought at Borders. While I'm able to do the classes online from home because of work, I still have to attend in person do the practice tests. I am still going through the program to finish the certifications, and was told by the person who signed me up to "just memorize the practice exams and that way pass the test". Even though I'm employed, I have to finish the program. Oh, and again I had to buy my own books to have some hope of passing the test. I have gone through three different student services / admissions directors while taking the program in a timespan of a year. The guy who signed me up - an "Account Executive" when I started is currently the lead. The "classroom" is a freezer where you can even hear the very loud conversations in the student lounge. The promised actual practice session where you actually get to put together a computer or do system work - well I've only had two, making the drive out here not worth it. Since it shares floor space with another "technical school", the bathroom is a LONG walk away. Oh, and their website is a dot com, not a dot edu (as most schools). I at least learned that :) This is one place I certainly would not recommend!

They provide you with videos and books and tell you good luck. The mentors at New Horizons are just guys who got certified and help you out if you have questions. This place is a rip off! You'll get certified and walk away not knowing hardly anything. No hands-on at all! I would not recommend New Horizons to anyone! Even the job placement at the Miami location is a joke! The girl that works there that places you with jobs rarely placed anyone! If you're thinking about going to this school think twice!

Not because it works or it doesn't, but rather because if you pay for it, you won't get your money back, not even as a credit towards further education. GoldCoastSchools will not refund any money! That's what happened to me. I was going to take the Cram Course but had to wait for a week. So, instead I decided to take the State Exam and passed it. Therefore, I did not need the extra expense. My advice, get the basic education, study and prepare yourself to take the State Test. Only if you fail the State Test go for the Cram Preparation Course. If not you will LOSE your money.

I enrolled my son in this SAT tutoring program hoping to help him improve his score and strengthen…read morehis understanding of the material. Unfortunately, after spending a significant amount of money on this service, we saw little to no measurable improvement. Throughout the program, I communicated my concerns directly to the owner. Rather than addressing the effectiveness of the tutoring, I was repeatedly made to feel as though my son was the problem. In my opinion, the tutors lacked the ability to teach concepts in a way that promoted true understanding and mastery of the SAT. Sessions often consisted of simply reviewing information and test questions rather than providing meaningful instruction, strategies, or personalized guidance. What made this experience even more disappointing was that after leaving this program, I found another tutor who worked with my son for just three weeks. During that short period, his SAT score increased by 170 points. This demonstrated to me that my son was fully capable of improving when provided with effective instruction and support. After the tutoring service itself acknowledged that my son and their program were not the right fit, I requested a refund or at least a partial refund given the lack of results and the substantial cost. The owner never responded to my request. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service. The program was extremely expensive, produced no meaningful results for my son, and when concerns were raised, they were not addressed in a professional or customer-focused manner. Update as a response to owner feedback. 100% my son sat for the exam they were contracted for and this is where no improvement was made. After the results I was given the option of one on one tutoring at an additional $75/hr. Obviously this service lacks the ability to keep a student engaged and motivated and the results of a different tutoring service proves that SMP is not a good investment.
