My granddaughter has been in public school and we moved her to Fairfax Christian School. She has learned more this year than she learned in the public school. I love the way they teach phonics and language arts. They are even teaching spelling and have a pre- test and a final to improve their grade. Math is taught in a way the kids will learn and memorize the main facts of math. read more

My son entered as a 7th grader and just finished 8th grade. None of his 8th grade classmates are returning for 9th. I'm so excited his time there is over. In short, the school is a scam. They spend money to advertise that they are a top school. My son came from a classic Christian school - it was very small and he was interested in sports so we transferred him. The academics at FCS were a year behind his other school. It was literally the books from his 5th and 6th grade class that were used in 7th grade. The academics are abysmal.The textbooks used for most of the classes are so poorly written and understood and the teachers only teach from the book. There is NO critical thinking. The students are bored out of their minds which leads to behavioral issues. The administration is by far the worst- no one has real academic experience. The children of the dean didn't even go there. It's a facade. Extracurriculars and liberal arts- horrible. Run. read more

We had a HORRIBLE experience here and after talking with fellow parents I find it wasn't just us. Our old school we loved was forced to close and they merged with FCS. It was like night and day the differences in schools! Having overpriced uniforms and One bible class to memorize a bible verse one hour a week does NOT make it a Christian school. God does not walk these halls and Christian values were hard to find here. The culture at our old school was very warm, friendly, welcoming. One of the biggest surprises for everyone from our old school was a "No touching rule" for students and teachers and parents - and this is before COVID! It's a cold environment and feels that way as soon as you walk in the door. It doesn't feel like a Christian school. It barely feels like a regular school. It definitely feels like a business only out to make money. No parent-teacher association either which seemed a bit shady to me. Why don't you want parents involved in your student's lives? I felt like I was not welcome to visit or come have lunch with my child. I missed my first day lunch with my child which has been our tradition since he started school. My child was bullied and struggled the whole year and struggled to focus well on schoolwork because of the social and emotional issues he had to deal with from day one. His learning was impacted and his mental health suffered this past year. COVID causing distance learning for the last quarter was a welcome blessing for my child in some ways! I also felt so bad for the staff from our old school having to integrate into this toxic work culture. Many didn't survive before the school start or first quarter and because of our relationships with the former staff from our old school, I know we were lied to when told why they were no longer there. Some incumbent teachers and staff often seemed angry and with little patience when they were speaking to students during special events and assemblies. Incumbent administrative staff were hard to contact, even through their internal systems. I was often pushed off to someone who usually couldn't help me anyway so I'd have to wait several more days to have issues addressed and weeks to get them resolved. The President skipped and pawned off to others meetings with us she was asked to attend by us; rarely available and rarely seen. There were promises made and not delivered by administration, false accusations from students and teachers. My child was being bullied by students at all levels and feeling like his teachers were picking on him too starting right at the beginning of the year! Unsatisfactory behavior on his report card for the year when he's never had any discipline issues before?? My child has always been well liked by his classmates and teachers before this school! This is definitely NOT a Christian School and therefore I think falsely advertised as such. God did not walk these halls. Their God is the almighty dollar. Minus 5+ stars. read more

"After being told that the community "Dulles" rate was no longer available for 2021-21 school year and the tuition was now $33,000 for 2021-22 for us- in line with what the parent review Tara H below states this school is all about money and is shady in its business practices- I received this listserv email below one hour ago from the Head of the School Thoburn, advertising the community rate to "ALL local prospective students for 2021-22." All I can say is this: from dealing in early 2020 with the shady former admissions director Liz McCoy who refused to return emails after I asked about additional scholarships and did not jump to accept an admission offer in Dec 2019, the shady responses from the Head of the School Thoburn about the fact that the community rate advertised in the email for 2020-21 below was no longer available "because I did not take it when first offered for this year 2020-21" even though it is clearly still being offered in the email below, I would proceed with caution in choosing to send my child there. To further explore that read the review below from former parent Tara H. I think that says it all. Please also request FCS provide a list of where all the graduates went to college for the past 3 years as I did not see advertised one recent Ivy League placement though I am sure if FCS had them being as money conscious as they evidently are, they would be advertising that fact all over their website. One final consideration: I am not sure if the disrespectful, toxic and what appears to be disparate treatment- (by actions such as quoting a higher cost to us then what is offer to other applicants) - my family received as applicants was because we are African American, or this school is just an equal-treatment racially-neutral bunch of toxic _____s. For $33,000, or even $15,000 (or whatever rate they quote you based on your demographics), you can get a better school in the DMV that actually produces results with its college placements and sends graduates regularly to the Ivy League and top flight institutions, not community colleges. This school is a joke. I've never been so frustrated in my life this school has caused nothing but anxiety and frustration these past few months. We've been trying to enroll my daughter mid school year and at first when we had spoken with the Dean of admissions. (Jenny McCambridge) she made it seem like getting my daughter excepted mid year was no problem. asked for her records and documentation and all of a sudden we couldn't get ahold of her. We were constantly calling the school just for them to say she's at lunch, in a meeting or just left to go home. and I get it I mean as a Dean your running around but we've been told we were going to be called back. instead consistently ignored including emails we would get a response one day but not the next. they say they are faith-based and you would think as a (CHRISTIAN SCHOOL) you would be merciful and make exceptions regardless of the rules and regulations. but no they made no way at all. We even reached out to the President/chief executive. Who is the head no help. Again you would think this school being faith- based they would make an exception even if it's against there rules ("Do unto others as you would have them do unto you") think to themselves if I were in there shoes I would want an exception to be made just for me. Finally decide to read reviews on the school and they haven't had a good review since 2017-2018 all of there recent reviews are absolutely terrible I've read each one save your time and money with these people they just aren't a good school. Our experience was very similar to Tara T.'s except they took it much further. My child had attended here a whole year and was an honor roll student who won multiple awards and had consistently satisfactory marks for behavior. In August of 2021, their following school year, we started to have issues with a teacher who was demeaning and would publicly shame them in front of their class. I reported this issue, and the very first parent teacher conference we ever had with the school was scheduled on 8/31/2021 to address my wish for them to move classes. We were denied because the other classroom was full, and the teacher began to deviate the conversation by raising issues with my child's behavior. On 09/28/2021, my child had dropped their lunch and the teacher did not call anyone therefore they went all day with no food. When they got home, I emailed the teacher, and her response was she forgot due to not having enough break time during the day. I reported this to the principle and requested again to move. From that point on, the teacher was consistently reporting daily issues with my child and giving them demerits for even forgetting their lunch box. I met with her and the principle and we had agreed to try and steer the guidance in a more positive direction and set goals instead of criticizing everything. My husband and I figured it was a bad teacher and we could get through the year and hope for a better one next year. When we went to re-enroll, we were told that due to behavior issues our child may not be welcome back. We were given no guidance other than to wait and see. I called the head of the school who suggested I get a full medical work up. That was it. We had asked to pull our child out and get a refund as we felt the administration was now targeting them, but they refused, and it was $7,200 with aftercare so we decided to try to finish out the year and go to another school in the fall. We had set a meeting for after the holiday break to try to figure out how to navigate the situation going forward. The teacher was out of school following the break for a while, so we were unable to meet immediately. She had only been back a week and we noticed multiple demerits a day for every little thing and yet another incident of her demeaning our child and discrediting what they had to say when they were trying to explain a situation to her because in her words "I will not argue with a child". Prior to the meeting, I emailed the principle and teacher regarding our issues with what now seemed like bullying towards my child and asked to address both the behavior of the teacher and their concerns about our child so that we could finish the year as peacefully as possible. I was told that there was nothing wrong with the teacher and in return was accused of being bullying towards the staff. We were told that until we have a talk with the principle and provided a full medical work up on our child to give them direction forward for their behavior (they have the entrance health exam and no medical professional has ever identified any concerns) - we were not allowed to speak with the teacher and from that point on, if my child did anything in class that the teacher considered misbehaving, then they would be immediately sent to the front office, and we would have to pick them up. After stating that this was an inappropriate way to handle the situation, the Head of School started making serious allegations of concerns for our child's "health and well-being". This was even though they had been an honor roll student for their entire time there and it was formally documented on their report card that they have had consistently "satisfactory" marks for behavior. When I initially spoke to the head of school, she didn't even know what grade my child was in, how long they had been at school (we had been in the school for over a year and a half with no prior issues), and she had never met any of us (including my child) in person. She still made some very serious accusations, so we pulled our child out of school immediately and transferred them. We felt as if our child was targeted for our displeasure with the teacher and in return we were retaliated against until we were forced to leave and let them keep our money. The day after we pulled them from their school- we received a call from Loudoun County Family Services regarding an anonymous tip about concerns for my child. They relayed the same allegations that the head of school had made the day before. It's easy to see that this was no coincidence. To force a student out of school is one thing but to inappropriately use a government system to hurt a family as a preemptive strike against anything negative that the parents may have to say is deplorable. You can read and decide. I would say stay far away from here if you care about the well-being of your children and the safety of your family. They have made it clear they're willing to do anything to anyone who stands against them. read more

Our son has attended FCS for 4 years now, and our experience has been EXCELLENT! His vocabulary, reading and writing skills, math and science skills, etc. are all well above other students his age. His teachers have always had an open door policy of communication, and the support and encouragement our son has received has been nothing short of outstanding. The Bible and godly moral character lessons are integrated into the curriculum in all classes. We are blessed to be sending our son back to FCS again this fall and look forward to his graduation one day as a godly young scholar. There is no better school in Northern Virginia to send your child. read more

All four of my children have attended. The first two went on to graduate with honors from top tech schools, and move on to well-paid employment. Grades aren't handed out; they are earned. FCS has some excellent instructors, especially in high school, and their text books are top notch, in my opinion. They have an online system that keeps me informed, day by day, of their progress and upcoming due dates. Their American history and economics instruction are balanced, but also biased toward the free market (great by me!), and while they don't emphasize sports to the degree that some other schools do, they offer enough for my athletically inclined children to be busy all school year. They offer more AP classes than my public high school offered in my day, and I am very happy with the challenge and support provided to my kids by their "old school" staff. read more
