I meant to post this review a week ago. Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Ruth and Bilal, who both were behind the front counter. Both employees were extremely friendly, courteous and informative. I had some questions regarding Libby and Ruth, (Clearly a Libby Veteran) informed me I should physically go to Oakland and San Francisco to obtain library cards and add them to the Libby app. She also recommended if I was in the Los Angeles area to obtain a library card there. She didn't have to tell me this but she went out of her way to help me out and that was appreciated. Yesterday I went to Oakland and got a library card and added that to my Libby app so that it would expand my library and it did. Library's are so important and I can appreciate Marin County keeping the Fairfax location open as well as all of the other locations. Thank you both, Ruth and Bilal. read more

Great little library in the charming hippie town of Fairfax. Good selection of books. I attended a mushroom lecture held in one of their meeting rooms, which was very educational. Parking lot has ample spaces. So many great libraries in Marin, and this one definitely holds its own. read more

Great, friendly & engaging staff. I commented on the nice outdoor seating area (nice one in the back as well) and was told it was planted with milkweed & to go out & look at all the monarchs flying around which we did. Wonderful community resource. read more

Staff here are very helpful. If you have children, there's a child librarian who can guide you to books for your child. I was here on a rainy day and there were many patrons in the library despite the weather. read more

This library is small however the grounds feel unique at times with lots of energy. It is within walking distance of town if you leave your car in the parking lot of the library and hurry on down to grab a quick cup of tea, then hurry back to leave. I wonder if they have old fashion comic books to look at inside the library. read more

The Fairfax Library is a nice branch. Their selection is pretty good, and I've found the librarians helpful. I wish their adult graphic novel section and selection were more extensive, but they only have so much space. The computer area can get noisy, but that is the case in most libraries. I hope to read out on their patio on a warm day, so I guess I have to keep coming back. :) read more

I've stopped going to the Fairfax library due to safety issues with patron, but more importantly, with managerial staff harassment and retaliation. After half an hour of listening to another patron talking on a call, and her waiving me off until done, I patiengly waited and then politely asked if she was willing to take her conversations outside. Dhe refused, which is her right, yet she indicated that I should leave, which is not her right. She continued verbal harassment by calling me "nasty", and continued as I got up mockingly encouraged me to talk to library staff. I didn't realize yet why she was so confidently harassing and escalating the situation. I understand that any librarian would need to know what was said, that I was being harassed, and what I wanted from them. I walked up to a librarian at the front desk and said "I am being harassed by another patron who (did the above described), and I would like her removed from the library. He looked not only blank, but completely uncomfortable as he said absolutely nothing. The other desk librarian awkwardly interjected herself and as I repeated my statements the harassing patron decided to interject and accuse the librarian of not listening to her side. The librarian let herself be manipulated and turned to listen to the harasser, who just harassed me more by saying "Don't even start with me" when I didn't start anything with her and she chided me to go to the staff. Staff didn't tell her to not threaten me, nothing. The manager, Margaret, comes up and looks as if she would rather be anywhere else, such a horrible attitude. I re-state the exact verbal harassment and my request for resolution. Clear facts with a clear request. Margaret remains completely tense and barely verbal. She then goes to speak to the harasser and I go back to my belongings to wait. Margaret brings the harasser back in with her and, with all of us there, tells me that the harasser will continue her calls as usual and that if I don't like it I can leave - exactly what the harasser already told me, and totally unnecessary. Margaret says nothing about the harassment, and states that she does not remember any of the harassment I specifically told her, nor my request for resolution. No apology, no acknowledgement of a single word I'd stated to her, while she increasingly shows indignant frustration with me. There is no other conclusion to be made than that the harasser is allowed to harass me; and the harasser looked totally contented this whole time. Margaret finally states, with exasperation towards me, that the harasser is to ignore me, and that if she doesn't ignore me, I am report this to her - again, her body language, her tone, everything, conveying her contempt for me. Of course, the harasser harassed me again. I tell Margaret who only amps up her glares and refusal to acknowledge the harassment while conveying disdain and belief that there was never any harassment towards me; "ending" in her literal turning on her heel and walks out of the room. Margaret has an unwavering commitment, way beyond mishandling harassment from a managerial position, to punishing those who speak up about clear harassment: she chooses to repeatedly and increasingly harm to the victim. I left the library. I called the Director of Library Services, Lana Adlawan, who knows Margaret and stated that what I described violated two of the four library policies: "Protect the rights and safety of Marin County Free Library patrons" and "Ensure that access to Library facilities is not negatively impacted by behaviors that create an environment that is unsafe, disruptive, or not conducive to the Library's mission." But Lana made the executive decision that Margaret and I needed to "clear the air"; NOT that Margaret, especially as the manager, needs to apologize and correct her behavior towards me as a patron and the library policies that ensure patron safety. Lana said that she'd call me back the next day; it's now been over a week...nothing. Patrons deserve better and so do the many, many great librarians who uphold your policies. Lana, you can have competent, appropriate library managers, and their staff will be much more adept at handling harassment as a result as well. Come on! read more

En route to Tomales Bay, I made a stop at the library to obtain a library card for the sole purpose of borrowing a Marin Park Pass for a week enabling me to park at Miller's Boat Launch for free instead of paying $5/day. Because I'm a CA resident and can show proof with my driver's license, acquring a Marin County Free Library card is free. Not only were the librarians friendly and helpful, but informative in recommending the MARINet app enabling card holders to transact online and have access to eBooks and eAudiobooks to name a few. Additionally, there were a couple shelves dedicated to a seed sharing program which excited me as a gardener. Not only did I pick up seeds for arugula and chioggia beets, but I plan to donate some of my seeds next time I visit. read more

This is my go to library for studying! I love the multiple study rooms. Most of the times I have gone here, I've never had a problem with too much noise/too much people. The parking lot of very accessible. read more

I love this library because you can sit and read and have an awesome view of the mountain, BUT they've gotten into this thing where they--you won't believe this--have MUSIC programs in their community room, that resound loudly throughout the whole LIBRARY! I've no idea how they've forgotten that the whole point of the library is that it's QUIET. And, to make matters really bad, the last two times I was there, first there was some adult music thing going on that was just horrible. The second time was a preschool music thing; you can imagine what that sounded like. Ugh! Yup, did talk to the librarian. Funny how one can't get results. He did not register the contradiction of loud bad music in the library with the concept of library as quiet, but instead said that it's every Thursday morning that they have this program, i.e., I should avoid coming at that time. No, that's not the point at all. read more

I really like this branch. There are banks of computers that are usually available. The private cubicles make it convenient for study. The staff is questionable as some snoots would rather stand around and gossip than check out books or try and be helpful to the customers. This has been my observation for over the last few months. - I digress The book selection is really great and the rustic feel to the library adds an additional level of comfort. The building is set back into the trees and patio is lovely. The community room has a fireplace and is also restful for study. The branch has a regular knitter group that meets once a month and it looks like they have a good tween/teen section. I know people that travel from San Rafael just to come to this branch. Been going here the whole 16+ years that I've lived in Marin. Nice and helpful staff, especially Nashama. Everything is easy to find and if they don't have what you are looking for it can be sent over from another branch library through the Marin public library system. My ONLY complaint is that sometimes it can get quite loud as little kids will occasionally run rampant or sometimes even the adults will carry on whole conversations at full volume without realizing (caring?) that they are standing in the middle of a library. Though this isn't an everyday occurrence but can happen. Libraries are a great source of information and entertainment. read more

I feel very lucky that my favorite library in all of Marin County is the closest one to me. I love the spacious airy feeling of the building with plenty of long windows with views. I love the self-checkout terminals which are so convenient and easy to use. It's great to be able to stay in my own reflective space and be in and out within 10-15 minutes. I also really enjoy the paperback section, which is a great way to grab books quickly - the highest quality books, and there always seem to be some new ones there. I love the Fairfax library, and also appreciate the new Friday hours! read more
