Beautiful state park. Plenty of space for camping and boating. The grounds are well kept. The views of the river are gorgeous. We didn't get to go into the Otis house because it was closed on Sunday, but we got to walk around it. We also walked the swamp trail. It wasn't very long, but it was nice, peaceful and had benches where you could stop and watch the boaters.

Fairview Riverside is one of the smaller state parks, but it is worth visiting. Located on the Tchefuncte River, the park offers some of the most beautiful views in the area. The park has camping areas that are small compared to nearby Fontainebleau, but they are adequate. There is a very nice pavilion available for rent that would be perfect for a kids party or a crayfish boil. The kids play area is small, but nice. There are actually two play areas. One is near the pavilion with the other by the camping area. There is a large house that was available for tours, but it is still under renovation due to hurricane damage. Day use fees are one dollar per passenger with kids under 3 free. The park is near both Madisonville and Mandeville, so if you're in the area, you should check it out.

Beautiful autumn sunset at Fairview-Riverside State Park!

Love this quaint little state park for camping and relaxing. The walk along the "Swamp Trail" is quiet and perfect for bird-watching from one of the benches on the trail. A visit to the beautiful Victorian style "Otis House" is a must ~ get your entry ticket from the park office and Lori will provide a very interesting and educational tour of this grand old home! Each month brings something different to the tour ~ December decor of fresh evergreens was especially enjoyable, as well as educational. I look forward to the January tour when quilts will be the "talk" of the home. The park employees are so very friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough good about this park!

There was another trail, but we did not take it. The massive cypress are just awesome! The Spanish moss slowly wavering in the air as you walk underneath these giants is just captivating to me! We did not encounter any creatures except squirrels and a male Orchard Orbweaver and his impressive web. Sooo much space and things to do here we didn't even do all of it. There's big open fields for playing, a playground, tons of parking available. I did see the pier and water of Lake Pontchartrain in the distance, but we were too hungry to keep exploring lol $3 per person to enter the park - 100% worth it

My wife booked a few nights in Tickfaw state park, sight unseen, to be more or less in the vicinity of New Orleans, a plantation tour, and a swamp boat tour that we had booked months in advance. As it turned out, we actually enjoyed this state park stay more than our visit to New Orleans! The state park entrance is actually at the back of a neighborhood of sorts, on a narrow two-lane road that cuts away from the highway at a weird angle. Once inside the park proper, visitors are treated to beautiful swamps, complete with cypress trees, Spanish moss, and all the critters you would expect to find here. The campground we enjoyed had full hook ups, a small wooden deck, and a long back-in pad for our trailer. There was also a resident raccoon who kept us honest about locking things up at night, and securing coolers and food. Tickfaw state park features long boardwalks with railings, that afford visitors beautiful hikes in different parts of the park through different kinds of trees and plants. Unfortunately, many of these were still damaged in the summer of 2022 from the previous year's Hurricane Ida that blew through southern Louisiana and surrounding areas. The only trail that was not affected by this was the one without a boardwalk, so we enjoyed a hike through beautiful pines that went down to the river. Despite most of the trails being closed and damaged, we still enjoyed ourselves here, and had a good time. In the evening, I enjoyed casting topwater lures in on the cypress knees and trees, and caught & released several big bowfin... A fish that is sort of a cross between a catfish a bass, and a pit bull I suppose. I'm not sure when we will be back through this part of the world, but Tickfaw State Park is definitely a place that I would stay again: off the beaten path but close enough to where you want to be, peaceful and quiet, and the kind of southern serene that helps a SoCal guy like me to slow down and enjoy life a little bit.

WMA Pearl River WMA Camp Grounds - This Pearl River/Crawford Landing WMA Campground is a real convenient area to spend the night situated just outside Slidell, Louisiana.

I discovered this Pearl River WMA (Wildlife Management Area) Campground through the trusty App on…read moremy phone called Campendium. In fact, if ever you need to find a spot to camp out for the evening while traveling spontaneously, I highly recommend Campendium. It's extremely easy to use and follow and it covers almost all campgrounds, sites, parks, RV parks, trailer parks and public venues that you can think of. Now...I will say that this Pearl River Campground may also have another name to it as well...so I apologize for that...it may be called Crawford Landing WMA too. Either way...both of these names are the same. They're both the same campground and they're located on Crawford Landing Road here in Slidell, Louisiana. What I liked about this campsite is that it's conveniently located right off Interstate 10 heading east to west and vice versa. While driving along my cross country road trip from Louisiana heading towards Mississippi, it was late in the day and I needed a campground to pitch my tent for the evening. Now...upon using Campendium, it said in order to sleep here for the evening it cost $0. Perfect! How convenient! But here's the catch and which threw me for a loop. It's only free to stay here if you possess a Hunting License or a Wild Louisiana Stamp. What??? Now...being during sunset late in the day...where in the world was I supposed to find a Louisiana Stamp??? According to a review someone posted on Campendium, the local Walmart sells Stamps. But for me...it was just too late in the day to backtrack about 5 miles to Walmart, buy the stamp and then return here to the campground. No way! By then it would have been pitch black dark outside and I never would have been able to set up my tent and get situated for the evening. So...I just had to gamble. I spent the night here without having the pass/stamp. My goal was obviously to wake up early and leave right around sunlight which is what I did. Fortunately I got lucky without having my pass/stamp. Btw...according to other reviews on Campendium, it cost about $20 for this Louisiana Wildlife Stamp Pass at Walmart. So, whatever...I survived my way through Louisiana while trekking towards Biloxi, Mississippi. Some extra notes I'd like to add about this Pearl River/Crawford Landing Campground... The entire camping area is very very spacious with loads of soft grass to put my tent down on. This was a terrific aspect as I had a great evenings sleep unlike most places where I set up camp on hard dirt ground. Also here were a bunch of trees with beautiful Spanish Moss hanging off of them. It was pretty scenery. I am always a fan of Spanish Moss, lol. There was only one other family camping beside me. I was surprised by that, being that it was summer time and so quiet. You'd figure for $0, to be able to camp in a nice little section right outside downtown Slidell would be busier with more campers. But I guess this review is from when I visited last year during the heart of the pandemic. Also, I parked my car right on the grass when I found my little section to set up my tent. There was no need to park in a lot and have to carry my belongings onto the grass. Cool! There was a little signage board posted with instructions on setting up your campsite and the rules about hunting because this section of Slidell accommodates hunters and you must display a permit for that. The board also states you must possess that Wild Louisiana Stamp. So...my recommendation would be that if you arrive here early enough in the day...head over to Walmart and get the stamp/pass just to be safe. Because if an authority figure does walk around and you're caught empty handed, the fine could be much more than the cost of the actual stamp/pass. Play it safe folks, lol. Finally, the family that was camping next to me had a fire started so it looks like you can use open flames and charcoal grills rather than just being held exclusively to a gas grill. That was nice to know for future visits. Right next to this campground was a landing dock where you can get your boat out onto the water. This wasn't bothersome at all during my stay. I just appreciated the unique campground location being relatively off the beaten path. One last thing...cell phone reception worked wonderfully here. I had full access to my phone which I was able to use inside my tent before going to sleep. Overall, this Pearl River/Crawford Landing WMA Campground is a really accessible outdoors area right off I-10 outside Slidell. The grass and open wilderness setting/surroundings was great for spending the night outdoors. I highly recommend staying here and for all you adventurers out there, definitely download Campendium.
