We visited the farm today to make scones, learn a little about farm life and to learn about sheep…read morefarming. The visit started with pictures in front of the peat burning fireplace. The aroma coming from the fireplace was very interesting compared to a wood burning fireplace. You could visit several rooms in the farmhouse to get a feel for what it was like to live there. We then moved into a large room with tables and benches with all the materials for making scones laid out. Mary was our instructor that provided the step by step instructions to make our own scones. Once the batter was ready and the scones were ready for baking a number was assigned to your tray so that, once baked, they would come back to you for tasting. While the baking was going on, Fontana the farmer, took us out back and talked to us about sheep farming and the challenges they have. Fontana also provided a sheep dog demonstration with Bailey his sheepdog. Once that was completed we returned to the dining room to get our scones and try them out with some rhubarb-ginger jam and cream. We also hit a wool spinning demonstration which was very interesting and informative. Finished off with a visit to the gift shop to pick up some very reasonably priced items. If you want to have a uniques experience this is one you shouldn't miss.

This was one of the best evenings we had on our tour of Ireland. We had such a memorable evening…read morelistening to Irish music and learning about Irish traditions in this small store with a rich history. The singing and dancing were simply beautiful. There were some jokes and storytelling, plenty of Irish songs and ballads. A couple of young ladies danced. It's down to earth entertainment. Everyone we met was so warm and personable. Michael is a wonderful host. He made us feel so welcome, talked to us like we were old friends and even gave me a hug before we left. Catriona welcomed us with a huge smile and made sure we had good seats. I will never forget this wonderful evening I spent with these warm Irish people. There's an intermission halfway through and they serve Irish coffee to everyone while you mingle with the musicians and the other guests. This should be listed in Things To Do In Dingle. If you have the chance, buy a ticket and go to these concerts. They have them regularly and should not be missed. It is definitely well worth the time.

We went here to just relax and walk. It is big and the gardens to seem to never end. It is very…read morepretty and relaxing with the water. Kids would be bored I think unless they are happy just running around. It is worth the admission price but it is sad you cant go in the castle. It is a real home and since it has people living in it -you can't :) Just allow enough time to walk all the grounds. We thought an hour was long enough but ended up spending 3 hours. It could have been stretched to 5 if we walked slower but wanted to see as much as possible. They also have a huge telescope but I personally found that a bite boring and just walked around it. My husband on the other hand really liked it.

I'm hammering...I mean sedately driving down the N11 just coming up to Avoca, perfect, we'll stop in there. The wife is thrilled, she's been trying to get me to go here for ages. Toilet duties complete we wander into the shop / restaurant. It is huge and packed to the rafters with all sorts or retro and colourful goodies. All we did was wander around and buy a few bits, they have an inordinately large collection of tea and tea making gadgets - very cool.. Sadly the cafe was closing as we arrived so we had to make do with take away nosh. Not the end of the world by any means, we got the fish pie, very tasty. For anyone into plants the surrounding gardens / grounds look fascinating. We'll definitely be back when we have more time and fewer emergencies!
