I had a wonderful time visiting Ireland and it is difficult to list my absolute favorites because I was incredibly happy every day of my vacation. With that said this was a high ranking favorite and I recommend visiting Fairy Fort & Pet Sheep (also known as Ring Fort.) It was simplistic and charming. It did not have a tourist area feel to it. Fairy Forts are circular grass mounds that are said to have magical powers. It is believed that these rings give you entrance to the other world. It's a curse to build on them or destroy them in any way. The locals have stories about those who show little regard for the powers of Fairy Forts. For a few euros you get to walk around the farm land. Included in the price is feeding all of the animals and exploring the Fairy Fort. As soon as you pass the little gate you see the animals. They watch you walking down the dirt path and you can feel their excitement building. They all want to eat and interact with their guests. You are given a cup of food and it goes pretty quick. Afterwards I walked around the Fairy Fort and made sure to be respectful. I thought that the whole Fairy Fort situation was a little spooky. I grew up listening to these types of stories about Ireland and I can say for certain that many people deeply believe in them. That's enough for me ....Pretty quickly I made my way back to the animals and continued to enjoy petting, feeding and talking to them. read more
