It gives you the feeling that buying something from here is no biggie, it's what every woman deserves. They specialise in beautiful, boned corsets, ranging from those with a real wow factor to more demure (well, slightly) ones. You can really go for the buxom burlesque babe look with a little number from here. There's also a lingerie and corsetry customizing service, so if you want something extra special you can really go wild. The great thing is that they are suitable for all shapes and sizes as that's what corsets are for, sucking you in and pushing you out... in all the right places! Now I'm not talking M&S here, these are sexy, satin, give-you-a-waspie-waist-in, undies that you're mum definitely won't be wearing. Or at least you hope not. The wonderful thing about this shop is that it takes fabulous vintage designs and styles and makes them with modern technology and fabrics. You'll find kinky frilly knickers mixed in between fully boned girdles and sparkly nipple tassels. And all of them are machine washable! Well almost all of them. Corinna is so right about the layout, it's nice a spacey with loads of racks so you can actually see everything on sale rather than rummaging through. They also have very helpful and chatty staff. Basically this place is awesome. The only thing that frustrates me is that I am a big boobied lady, and some of these designs just don't cut the mustard for practical day wear, yes for sexy fun time but no really what you'd go to Tescos wearing. I received a generally frosty reception when I arrived. Perhaps I wasn't gothed-up enough for the sales people's tastes. After browsing around for quite some time without receiving a greeting, I asked someone for help in determining corset size. After I picked out some options (on my own), I asked to try them on, at which point, the sales people became moderately more friendly. One discussed and showed me how to put on the corset myself, and another actually helped me to try them on. I ended up making a purchase, and the cashier gave me a sales flyer that listed the item number in the event that I wanted to order the same corset online in another colour. Despite the name, FairyGothMother is not just for goths! I wandered in and fell in love with several of the beautiful 50s-style dresses. I am not even a little goth-ish, and although the staff are all waaay more edgy than me (with their awesome tattoos, corsets and funky hair) they don't seem to mind us girly-girly folks trying everything on! Bride-y stuff: Downstairs there is a lair that includes sexy underwear and wedding dresses(!) Some of the dresses are fairy-like and poof-y, but some they also have lots of alternative, 50s-style, shorter dresses. The staff were really welcoming, and I spent plenty of time in my knickers while the lovely shop assistants helped me into amazing dresses. They lent me some ridiculously high heels so I could topple around looking in the mirrors while my sister, mum and bridesmaid told me what they thought. The prices are reasonable(ish), well, at least compared to some other bridal shops in London. BUT I still think it is mad that the wedding dresses cost 30 times more than their normal dresses. FairyGothMother is probably the ultimate place to buy Goth clothing. They have the Sexy, the Flamboyant, Burlesque, Fetish, prom gowns etc and specialise in Corsets. Jewellery and accessories are also available. If you want to look stunning or stand out at a Whitby Goth weekend or club then this is the place to buy clothes. You do have to have the figure though. They don't do a lot for the larger sizes. More importantly you have to have the money! This stuff isn't cheap but it would make a Goth girly drool. To make up a basic outfit a corset is around £130. Add a skirt £80. A beautiful jacket £295. A hat £85 and a necklace £95. So for a decent outfit you won't get much change from £700. A great place to buy a Goth wedding outfit though. Prices are quite high but it does reflect the excellent quality of the outfits. Fairy Goth Mother is probably the best place to buy a corset, corsets being what they specialice in, and they have any kind of corset that you could possibly desire. Having brought corsets from here before I thought this would be a great place to get my wedding dress. I was wrong! I booked an appointment and looked forward to spending time choosing the perfect design. Whilst the shop assistant was nice there was no guide as to what to try or any feedback about what suited or not. I also got a little annoyed with the reluctance to let me try on more than about 3 corsets and the huffing whenever I asked to try something on. The first dress that I wanted to try was only available in a size 18 (I'm a size 10) so my sister had to hold it in at the back to give me some idea of what it might look like - it unsurprisingly didn't look very good. I move to try on a corset and a skirt as I wanted the flexibility of having different colours. There was a distinct lack of corsets in my size and while there was a wide range of styles and colours it was difficult to choose one as they were either too small and I felt like I was in a vice or so large I could have fitted my sister in there with me. After about an hour I had decided on the color and design that I was really happy with and loved. The final problem came when I wanted to order. I was told that the colour I wanted was from 'two seasons ago' and the best they could get was not even close. They wouldn't have even checked this with me if I hadn't been looking over their shoulder at the time. The skirt almost got ordered a foot too long too as they didn't measure my leg length. They didn't offer me any alternatives or apologies and when I asked if I could buy the one from the shelf I got told 'No you can't have that one, it doesn't even fit you love'. Very helpful! In hindsight I'm glad I found out what this place was like before I ordered anything and received a expensive corset that was not what I wanted. I advise you not to come here unless your willing to accept awful service and compromise. read more

Whilst the original FGM is in Camden and run very ably by Pippa who is a wizz at corsetry the new FGM shop is in Spitalfields Market and run by the owner. This shop is about 10 times the size of Camden. A far better variety and the opportunity to browse in a more comfortably area. Corsetry is expensive and like everything else you certainly get what you pay for. read more

The variety of stock is extraordinary; with items to suit any purpose: lingerie, bondage or teemed with a skirt to make a classic outfit. This tiny London shop has a whole bridal floor downstairs full of faux fifties weddings dresses. I'd been looking for something vintage style but most bridal shops I visited had only a few shorter styles. This shop has loads! The staff are great, laid back and not at all pushy. I was allowed to take pictures of each dress I tried to show my Mum which really helped. Other shops hadn't let me do this. Overall I preferred the experience to the posher pretentious shops. Staff couldn't do enough for me. Would be prefect if the changing rooms were a bit bigger! I ordered a strippy Mooshki dress and a custom Fairy gothmother petticoat which came in the time promised and the alterations were done quickly as I needed to fly out with the dress at short notice. If a short retro dress with a petticoat is your thing try this shop. read more

This shop tucked away in spitalfields has to be one of London's best Lingerie shops. Well stocked with a wall full of pretty bra sets and silk teddys (Ayten Gasson my favorite!) as well the largest collection of corsets you are likely to see anywhere. The staff are relaxed and friendly, but equally happy to squeeze you into a proper steel boned number if you need help. Great for us busty girls. They also seem to do some dresses, retro and cocktail rather than daywear. read more

Bought my wedding lingerie here, wish I'd bought my wedding dress here too, the corsets are fabulous! The staff fit you then you can choose for 1000's of fabrics and the corset is made up with the matching skirt, how cool is that. So much more fun and less stuffy than a traditional bridal shop. got really busy on the sunday we went, had to wait a while for a changing room, but was kept entertained by seeing everyone in their outfits. This place is great as soon as i walked in i was greeted by friendly staff who helped me find what i was looking for. The staff helped me try on many prom dresses and after a few lovely outfits i found the perfect one something everywhere else i tried was unable to do. I was recommended this place after my friends mum bought a very beautiful wedding outfit here so the range is fab. not only do they stock evening wear and bridal outfits their lingerie is to die for not your average high-street stuff! And i absolutely love their range of corsets the biggest choice i have seen by far if i wasn't still a student in dept i could see myself having a very nice shopping spree in this shop. read more

I used to be a big fan of FairyGothMother having purchased products from the shop in the past . Their corsets are excellent quality and whilst at their shop in Spittlefields they had excellent staff however I went to their new shop just around the corner from their old site when looking for a wedding dress for this summer and got a shock at the change. I had planned a simple wedding and went looking for a dress 6 months prior to the occassion. I was specifically looking at the dresses which could be produced within 8 weeks according to their website so plenty of time. I was met with a frosty reception- I was reprimanded by one member of staff for not making an appointment despite the fact that there was no requirement to make an appointment for standard evening dresses according to their website. I was subsequently firmly told that I had not planned my wedding far enough in advance and that I was irresponsible for not allowing more time despite the fact that the products I was interested in could, according to the website, be produced well within time. I was made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, and was ceremonially rushed out when a more standard bride arrived. The customer service was horrendous. Unsurprisingly I brought my wedding dress elsewhere, where I received fantastic customer service and found better value. Disappointed at the decline of this once wonderful shopping experience. read more

About 4 years ago Lulu and Lush/Fairy Goth Mother moved to their current location. The store is not the pretty blue bayfront window in the pics here. It's much smaller than it used to be. There is an upstairs and a downstairs, and the fitting room upstairs is basically a corner curtained off. I was there today and the downstairs was closed due to a private consultation/appointment, so I got to see NOTHING from downstairs, and was told the appointment would last about an hour. There is not a lot of stock upstairs, but there was one dress I liked and wanted to try on--everything else was too small. (I'm about a size 18 UK.) But someone was there before me, trying on corset after corset--and if you've ever tried on corsets, you know it takes a long time just to put one on. I waited quite a long time only to find out the dress was a bit too small. Prices seemed VERY high to me--a burlesque skirt was much more than I'd seen it on a website, and the corsets too were higher than one can get for the same quality online. I've bought from Fairy Goth Mother before--when they were in Camden and when they merged with Lulu and Lush--and I was very disappointed this time. The shop was only manned by one guy at a computer who didn't seem interested in helping me at all--the other staff was downstairs with the appointment. I doubt I will go back, but I will certainly call if I do. read more

I bought my wedding dress from here - on my first visit they were very friendly but rushed, plus there was a 2nd bride trying on at the same time. I returned a few weeks later and found my idea dress, petticoat & coat, although only the manager (owner?) was the only one who was enthuastic about helping & advising me. I was told it would take 6 months for it all to arrive & alterations about £60. It actually took 8 months to arrive & the alterations were a mind numbing £140. I bought the dress on the understanding that the neckline could be changed, only for the seamstress & manager (who was the one who had said "absolutely no problem to give it a more sweeping neckline") to say it couldn't be done. I had lost weight (again the manager said it could be adjusted by upto 2 sizes) but I had to INSIST it was taken in due to it being loose when fully laced up - the seamstress thought this was a lot of work! And the organza coat has been adjusted but simply doesn't fit - the shoulders stand up around my ears! I gave up arguing in the shop & have handed it over to my trusty drycleaner-alterations service who can't see any problem with lowering the sleeves to make it fit properly. In short, they have a great selection of rather dirty samples, their customer service is ok in store (they NEVER return phone calls though - just keep ringing them), the fitting rooms are overheated, small & very grubby (no drink offered either), and I wouldn't trust their seamstress again. And get estimates & suggestions in writing. read more

I had so many compliments on my bridal gown, it was beautiful and different. I was initially a bit put off by most of the samples being Ivory, but this is apparently because most brides prefer paler colours. They did have a big selection of colour swatches though and some dresses made up in black, red etc. I choose a purple dress. I added sleeves and a custom belt. The whole process was lovely, never felt rushed and fittings in their new showroom was efficient with even more dresses on display than they had in their Spitalfields shop. The staff were relaxed and helpful without being pushy. As a big girl I hate shopping in general so it was a pleasant surprise to be made to feel so welcome. We visited their new shop for the first time yesterday (16th November 2012) and were really disappointed at how run-down it all feels. I'd bought a wonderful corset before from them when they were located in Lamb Street (opulent and beautiful shop interior and friendly staff). At the new place it felt dingy, and I ended up having a semi-argument, because this man came down while I was half-undressed, started commenting on how nice I looked, and my husband had to ask him to leave, said how uncomfortable it made us feel, and how or why could they possible think we'd want a stranger watching me getting dressed and undressed. Whilst the corsets are lovely (no question about that) the staff seemed very unwelcoming and the atmosphere has completely gone. I just wanted to leave, and the fact that this man turned out to be part owner of the shop does not give him right to ogle any woman that comes in to buy. I was so looking forward to my visit and came away bitterly disappointed, so sadly I would now not recommend this to anyone. Does anyone know of any good alternatives? read more

First impressions were great, I went to look for wedding dresses and staff were really helpful and dresses were lovely. A few months later I wanted to return with my sister (travelling from Devon) to look at bridesmaid dresses, after ringing and making an appointment I was assured that the dress would be in the shop for our appointment. When we arrived we were told that the dress hadn't arrived due to poor weather, but nobody had thought to ring me to save me the trouble of coming in. I used this opportunity to get an update on my dress as it was approaching the time that it should have been back in store, I was told that it would be about another month and they again assured me they would call me as soon as it arrived. 6 weeks past and nobody had contacted me so I phoned them again, to find that it had arrived a while ago and was waiting for me, so I arranged my fitting. Once again on going in to the store staff were friendly and helpful, there were minor alterations required and I was told this would take two weeks, I was charged £25 in cash, there and then and told that I would be phoned when my dress was ready. 4 weeks later I had still not received a phone call from them so yet again phoned them for an update and was told the dress was ready for me to pick up so I arranged a date to pick it up. Now in hind site I should have tried the dress on in the shop when I went to pick it up, but the shop is very small (only two changing rooms) and pretty busy, and at face value the dress looked great. On taking it home back to Devon however I discovered that the pins were still in my dress and the alterations had not been done. When I rang the shop they did apologise and offered to do the alterations in the store the following weekend, unfortunately this is not a short journey and would have costed a fortune in train fare, so at this stage I decided to look elsewhere for someone more reliable. I then called the shop and asked to be refunded for the alterations that were never done, I was told that the manager wasnt in that day but she would call me back the following day, she even read my mobile number out to me when I questioned whether I would actually receive the phone call (next day, no call) so I rang them yet again, I was assured the money would be in my account by that evening, having checked my account it is still not there so will be another thing I will need to chase them up on. The positives of the shop are that they are friendly and helpful if you are able to deal with them in store however they have failed to call me every single time they were supposed to and have turned my wedding dress purchase in to a stressful nightmare, my wedding is now three weeks away and the alterations are yet to be done because of their incompetence.
