They do science and music and Spanish with awesome teachers, and we get lots of communication from the class. We love the routines and the social environment the kids get to enjoy that keeps them on a great track academically. We would recommend this school to anyone!

There are many highlights and advantages to PNA. The downside is there seems to be a lack of communication and transparency. Each teacher seems to set their own curriculum and classroom standards. Academics could be more challenging. No hot lunch except for pizza Monday's. Tuition is one of, if not the highest in anchorage. Overall is suits our needs as we are only here two years but we will definitely add some tutoring this summer to make sure our kids don't fall behind the lower 48's standards.

Northern Lights Preschool and Childcare is without a doubt the WORST child care experience I've ever had. The staff are rude; most do not speak English well so they cannot tell you how your child's day was or understand what you are talking about if you have concerns and this place is DIRTY. My daughter got into a lottery school last minute and since her Kindergarten was half day I needed childcare for the other half of the day. This was the only place I could find that would accept her on such short notice that could pick her up from school and bring her to the daycare. They forgot to pick her up from school and blamed me. When I called to complain about them not picking my child up the woman argued and then hung up on me! They also never knew where my child was and I had to go to 3 or 4 different rooms every day to find her and each staff would say "She's not here today." When I complained to the manager about it being ridiculous that every day no one can tell me where my child is she simply nodded but offered no solutions. They most of the time could not even remember who my child was and would send me to where some other child was thinking I was their mother... When I did call to report she was ill and be home sick for the day, later I would get an angry call from their driver saying she is at the school and my daughter is not there so she is leaving! They do not tell the children to wash their hands, the staff does not wash their hands. My daughter had an accident and did not have extra clothes, instead of them calling me to bring her clothes they had her remove her soiled clothes and wear JUST snow pants for the rest of the day. My daughter was very embarrassed!!! They also kept telling her religious things like "666 is a bad number" and "God is your real Dad." She's 6, she does not need to be told about bad numbers and they don't even know if we are a religious family. Very inappropriate. Very high turnover of staff, and staff are not knowledgeable about childhood growth and development, other than the Eye Level program. I would never bring an infant there for care. The rooms are packed to the MAX and honestly are probably over what they are supposed to be at times. I have seen staff physically push children. I do not qualify for daycare assistance and paid out of pocket the entire time which was $650.00 per month and always on time. As soon as kindergarten was over I put in notice that my child would no longer be attending including the date of her last day. She only went there 8 days of the last month. One would think $650.00 cut in half right so the amount owed would be $325.00. Not the case as the manager decided to charge me their "daily" charge for the last few days which she said herself "Is more expensive" which amounted to $450.00 for 8 days of day care! I told her that this was an outrageous amount and again she just nods but obviously doesn't care just wants money. There are also a lot of intoxicated homeless people that hang out outside of the day care, which is not the day cares fault but there is obviously no effort to make that change. They also do not notify you very well when they will be closed. They hang up one sign that is plastered up between many other signs that are always hanging up on plain white paper with black ink. One day when we were leaving on a Thursday the teacher said "See you Monday" and when I questioned if they were closed (it was not a holiday) another teacher who I've never seen before or interacted with very rudely yelled at me "THERE IS A SIGN!" This place needs a very thorough investigation. I would have taken my child out sooner but did not want her to have to change in the middle of the school year and she was not in immediate danger. Her last day there could not come soon enough. This is not a place the supports the growth and development of children, it is the equivalent of having a high school teen watch your child.

We were impressed with the pricing and called him for our stovetop, washing machine, dishwasher, on separate occasions. Also had him service our Kitchen Aid tabletop mixer and repack it with food safe grease, couldn't believe they come with non-food safe grease from the factory. I arrived around 10am, super friendly check in service and was quoted 5-6 hours to come back. My item ended up being ready in 2.5 hours, but mostly what I appreciated was the text message responses. I received a text message when I dropped my item off, with the ticket number and expected pick up time, and I received a text message when my item was ready with the ticket number. As someone who gets an obnoxious amount of spam calls, to the point I don't answer unknown numbers, I greatly appreciated the text messages about my item.

We applied to a couple others first, but were too far in line that we had to seek out other options. Ultimately, we are glad for those circumstances. Joan's is a great preschool. The entire staff is very kind and caring, and our Son loves going there, we have had a great experience with our oldest there that we also enrolled our youngest (almost 2 years old). Joan, the owner, bends over backwards for to accommodate both kids and parents. This was especially evident when we informed her about our youngest's allergies. Joan took it upon her self to reform several of the day care policies to ensure our youngest was safe. I would recommend Joan's to any of our friends or neighbors in need of a quality day care for their kids.

Jen, the owner, has always been wonderfully upbeat and communicative. You can tell she has a passion for preschool aged kids and excelling their education while also providing a fun and clean atmosphere. The preschool always felt very well organized and sanitary. We loved all the teachers - Marques, Jen, Hannah, Kara, Liz....everyone seems to want to be there and help your kiddo through the process. It was a very friendly space and we never felt we couldn't communicate a thought or concern or even just share a joke about how our kid was bouncing off the walls that day. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this preschool to any of my friends or colleagues. Shortly after my son graduated and had his first day of kindergarten, both Jen and Marques reached out to me to find out how he'd done in the transition. They also encouraged a pop in visit down the road. You can tell they really are invested in the children there.

I've been living in Alaska since 2003 and had never heard of it until a couple months ago when a friend of mine told me to check it out. I was looking for some Abeka curriculum and they had a decent stock of used in. Not only that but I was able to find a great selection of products in all the categories I needed. The customer service is also great, and they know what they are talking about. They are extremely helpful with questions, and if they don't know the answer they point you in the right direction. The only thing that I have to say about them that isn't the best is that when they do special orders it can sometimes take up to three weeks for the items to come in. I have ordered from them three times and will continue to do so, but the second time it took almost a month. Other than that, I love the store and will continue to shop there! Here are just a few of the things that I have seen there: --They have a playroom specifically for the kids to hang out in while you shop. It's great, especially for a mom with four kids like me. --They offer both used and new curriculum, with the used at really decent prices, (especially for the expensive things like Abeka and Bob Jones) --They have a couple different programs available, a birthday coupon for $5 for the kids, and a rebate program that gives you 10% back on all your purchases. --They have language arts, math, handwriting, social studies, science, and Christian curriculum. They also have art, bible, parenting, teacher resource, and language studies available. They have tons of picture books and a good selection of readers for children all the way through high school. A visit is required if you are looking for anything in the above categories, and this is all just what I've managed to look at. My family lived in Eagle River for a while before moving to Anchorage, and I have to say Chickabiddy Books is the best homeschool and teacher resource in Anchorage and the Valley.

I have been using this agency since my daughter was in high school. When you have special needs…read morechildren you have to make sure the school district doesn't take advantage of the situation just for the extra funding. They will try to believe me so that's why I came here for an advocate they call a parent navigator. The parent navigator was very sweet and meant well, but I felt more lost than ever in these huge round table IEP meetings. If you don't know what to ask for or how to word the IEP, the school makes suggestions that benefit them. Our navigator just sat there and didn't say a word. She was more of a witness than anything. I needed someone to...navigate so it was frustrating. That's why this review is missing a star. I stopped using them shortly after that. Fast forward to this year. I decided to use them again because finding a non profit can be daunting. This time I was trying to obtain an ISW waver for my daughter which she had previously been denied when she needed it the most. This is where this agency shines. They hooked me up with a great guy named Thomas that gave us the referral we needed. He wrote up an awesome report that helped with all of the other information gathered to successfully obtain the waver my daughter needed for these extra services. I cannot tell you how his help managed to lift the anvil off of my shoulders I had been carrying around for many years. It was quick, professional and he definitely knows what he's doing. I haven't met all of the people that work for SSG, but Thomas is definitely my favorite I highly recommend SSG and Thomas specifically if you are needing a waver. They also have activities we haven't done yet but are highly looking forward to in the future. Keep up the great work! It's nice to work with someone highly suited for and passionate about their job!
