There's even a gourmet market in the basement below it with a bakery, pizza, fresh fruits & vegetables, and many specialty chocolates and candies. This part of the store connects to the underground Kongens Nytorv metro station. That's quite convenient for commuters on their way home from work. It's also great for tourists like us who want to buy last minute things like Lakrids of Bülow. There's a shop for that here as well. It's also where you'll find a coffee shop. We would eventually find out that there are many different cafés located on various floors of this department store. We found an express version of Hallernes Smørrebrød. I've written a separate review for this location, but for some reason it just doesn't show up in my Yelp activity. I just wish I had known about the other restaurant location on the top floor that boasts beautiful views of the square. We visited twice and somehow missed it. If anything, it would be nice to see a full directory of each floor listed on their website or near the entrance of the ground floor. The building is on the site of what was once the Hotel du Nord. Hans Christian Andersen was a resident of the hotel from 1838 to 1847. It's not the same building, but they supposedly recreated his room. It can be accessed on the 3rd floor. It's a second part of the store that I regret not seeing. Hence, the 4 star review for not having a clear map to everything without having to go floor by floor. It was a great find when walking through Kongens Nytorv Square. It's difficult to miss the beautiful French architecture of this building. It draws you in as you discover what's inside of it.

I was looming for some souvenirs to bring home and the locals recommended Feilds Shopping Center…read more Feilds has everything you need under one roof. I found great souvenirs but I also found that they offer home furnishings and groceries as well. Every store I visited, everyone spoke English amd were extremely friendly. I made several purchases. I can say that the prices were more than reasonable and staff were very good at helping you save on purchases with store offers. While Feilds offered several dining venues, I chose to eat at McDonalds. I have had my share of McDonald's over the decades but I will say, the quarter pounder with truffle sauce/cheese and truffle fries, hands down, the best McDonald's burger I have ever had. If you do not want to hit all of the tourist/souvenir shops through out the city, Fields has what you need and more.

I stayed at Bella Sky Marriot about a 10-12 min walk through new apt homes. Nice walk.. you can also take the tram. I had to look for an inexpensive coat because i accidently left mine back in LA. This remind me more of a middle class mall in the USA where you would find mall anchor stores like Macys. There is H&M, Zara and other GAPish like stores for everyday seasonal wear. More local folks here than tourists. Which is great. Cool food court upstairs. Tons of burger places (i didnt fly 12 hrs for a burger so i passed.. theres Indian, Vietnamese, Italian foods. I ate at South Indian. Good experience. Great place to come if you forgot key things for your trip. There is also a wallgreens-ish type of store to buy toothpaste, shampoo, hairspray etc.

If you are looking for high end shopping, this 5 story plus a basement department store is for you…read more Everything here is outside of my budget, but it didn't stop me from coming in to check it out. This store pretty much carries all the top name brands of clothing and home furnishings including the Japanese brand, MUJI (first time seeing MUJI items in person). On the top floor of ILLUM is a coffee shop named Original Coffee which overlooks the square/courtyard of the Strøget Shopping District. If you are looking to do some high end shopping or want a great view at Original Coffee, check it out.

Atmosphere: Everyone's going to have an opinion on this. I would say, this department store is between Macy's and Sak's in feel (Use NYC as reference). If you're from Asia, it's a bit like a Sogo, with "cooler brands", but not uber-trend. Curated, slightly higher price point than Magazin, which I think of as a Macy's, but a lot of overlap. While both have a coffee shop, somehow I like the format of how they worked it in better here. Check out: Bags: There are two bag stores on the ground floor that are worth checking out. Veloris is a Denmark brand. Very masculine very leather. Not my deal, but I could see someone really wanting this particular look. There is another little separate purse brand. Quite structured. Worth a look. Lingerie: Better selection, particularly of Simone and Perele. I can't say it's larger. It's simply better curated. Other floors: A lot of British brands. I quite like. They had a few nice Dune pieces, which I had not seen at the other stores. Swimwear: This is where the store got me. They have two brands I hadn't seen at other spots. Relative to American stores that are all skimp and no help, the design here is more practical, even in the two pieces. Staff: I found everyone very professional and friendly. They stayed close to the dressing room area and were available for changes in sizing. This speaks to the organization of the store, i.e. the right number of people for each little alcove.
