You can easily see why this is one of the most visited state parks!! It's huge, for one, with lots of hiking trails that highlight the key features of the park, think lots of waterfalls!! Most are visible from overlooks with short hikes, and for the more adventurous, there are treks to the bottom of the namesake falls, a cable trail (bring leather gloves, carabiner, possibly climbing gear) to Rockhouse Falls, or longer trails like the Paw Paw loop, Overlook trail, or even the Prater Place for a hidden Hemlock Falls. I also stayed in the lodge, which was fantastic! The rooms were well equipped, comfortable, and had great features like balconies. The view at the restaurant over the lake was beautiful, especially at sunset. The fisherman style cabins have decks literally on the water, so that looked like a must see at some point, too!! Couple of other hits: pet friendly rooms, pet friendly trails, golf course, cabins, fire pit and pool at lodge, Nature Center, and Visitor Center! read more

Pictures do not do this campground justice! This is an absolutely beautiful campground that has plenty of shade trees, and spacious camp spaces. The bathhouses are clean and well maintained, and there is so much to do in the area! Despite there being a lot of kids, this campground is relatively quiet and very relaxing! One of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen. If you're traveling between Kentucky and Atlanta, I highly recommend stopping by Fall Creek Falls State Park. A few tips I want to share: 1.There's no admission fee. You can enjoy this incredible view thoroughly for free. 2.The park is enormous. If you're using GPS, do not search "Fall Creek Falls State Park." Like me, you might end up in the middle of the park with no clear direction to the falls. Instead, search for "Base of Fall Creek Falls" to go directly to the waterfall area. It's also a great place to relax, with a resort-like atmosphere and a beautifully maintained golf course. This is such an amazing state park - from the overall ementies, views, approachable hiking, water, falls, you really cannot go wrong. I recently went on a camping trip with my dad here, a staple spot for him, a first time for me! They have multiple campgrounds with the ability to accommodate RV's, tents as well as some primitive spots. Not into camping? No problem, they also have a recently built lodge, as well as small cabins on the lake and throughout the park. Entertainment doesn't just stop at hiking either, between their golf course, zipline, as well as water craft/sport renting, you could easily fill your day with all the activities they offer. Park entrance is free, they have a lovely visitor center upon entry and then throughout the park have a museum, a general store, a gear shop and a restaurant at the lodge. Truly a beautiful park and hidden gem in Tennessee, well wortha. visit! read more

What a beautiful national park. So much to do. We made a day trip but many options for an overnight stay. We did the suspension bridge trail. Beautiful view of the falls and the swimming hole but the bridge is not for the faint of heart. You think it's ok until you are in the middle and it's starts rocking. It is beautiful here, but the cabin we stayed in was not special needs friendly. They charged us a $250 cleaning fee after we left, because they said the cabin had a bad smell. We assumed it was because of our special needs son. He gets at least one or 2 showers every day, but the hot water in the cabin was hard to come by. One shower was all it took to run out of hot water. That might be okay for 1 person, but when you have 2 bathrooms with 5 people, that is completely insufficient. It was very discouraging because this was our 2nd year here, and we had hoped to visit again next year. We definitely wouldn't feel welcomed after this time. read more

Nice little hike down to the waterfall, took both dogs with us. The terrain gets more difficult the lower you go, or the closer you want to get to the bottom of the waterfall. There are some parts of the hike that are strenuous so you just have to test it out and see how far you're willing to go. We went to the bottom but not all the way to the bottom of the waterfall as that's a steep climb down. It was a decent hike, weather was lovely. Definitely wouldn't do this hike if it were raining as the rocks and dirt can get slippery. Would definitely recommend seeing this lovely view even if it's just viewing from the top of the waterfall. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lodge at Fall Creek Falls SP. It is in a fairly remote setting near the amazing namesake waterfall and right on a beautiful lake. The room was large and comfortable, felt pretty new and fresh. Bed was super comfy, quiet room. The restaurant is outstanding for lunch and dinner with a wide ranging menu. We got, grilled trout, dinner salad, fried catfish, and cod tacos. All superb and the wait staff was excellent. The complimentary continental breakfast was just okay, not great for a hearty breakfast lover. read more

We came here in November 2023. This is a beautiful park in Tennessee. Lots of hiking trails and a great little gift shop with small museum. When we came here in the water was really low so the falls were not rushing like they normally would. But we still enjoyed the hike through the woods and enjoyed the swinging bridge. I would love to come here during the spring to see all the trees and shrubs in bloom. We were a little late and all the leaves had fallen off the trees. Great place to get away for picnicking and hiking. read more

Amazing park full of beautiful views. The waterfall was stunning, one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States at 265 feet. It would be easy to spend a couple days in this park. Hiking, swimming and enjoying nature. The park has 222 campsites in five different areas. All sites have tables, grills, water, and electricity and are served by six bathhouses. Cabins are also available. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating and rock climbing etc etc etc. We did plenty of touring and wrapped things up at the snack bar. read more

This was our first visit to this TN state park. We stayed in campground B for 4 days and 3 nights. The campground offers lots of clean shaded areas to walk which our dogs loved. Our site was spacious with a concrete pad. We camp in a Motorhome and do not tow a vehicle. We found that if we walked from campground B to campground C, we could take a hiking trail to the swinging bridge with beautiful scenery. This trail veered left to go to the main waterfall. We remained on the main trail because we wanted to go to the Nature Center. On the day we departed we drove to the main parking area for the primary waterfall and enjoyed a short walk/hike to view beautiful scenery. Because this park is so large, and we do not tow a vehicle, we were limited to just a small area of the park during our stay. I wish they offered some type of trolley service to other areas so we could have experienced more of this amazing state park. If booking a campsite, pay close attention to the information related to how level each campsite is. Our site was great, but as we walked around the campground, we saw some that would have been impossible for us to use in our 38 foot motorhome. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Fall Creek Falls State Park and will visit again. read more

Do yourself a favor and reserve a fisherman's cabin for a long weekend! Back when we did this, we reserved them 1 year to the day in advance [that's how quickly they booked up!] for New Year's weekend and always had an absolute blast! The cabins are always well kept, spacious, and just plain fun to have the cozy back porch area right over the water. We never actually fished from the back deck but you certainly could if you wanted. I don't recall if the bikes were rentals or free, but we bike rode a LOT around the entire park. This is the version of the fisherman's cabin I recommend: "two-story, two bedrooms, one and a half bath cabins. Fisherman Cabin guests can enjoy outdoor cooking, sunbathing, and fishing from their private porches situated out over the lake. WiFi is available. On the lower floor of the two-bedroom Fishermen Cabins is a full kitchen, dining area, a living room with a potbelly woodstove, and a full bath. Upstairs are the two bedrooms and the half bath. Inside one bedroom are two full-XL beds and the other bedroom has one king-size bed." They sleep a lot of folks, and we always included a couple of friends or couples, and had ample room. The hike to the base of the beautiful fall is easy and it's just lovely when you get to the bottom. I recall a suspension bridge and several other falls, also. One January, we enjoyed a beautiful snow fall, it was actually a lot of snow [at least for us Southerners] and it made our hiking even more exciting. It looks like they have made some major upgrades to the park with the new lodge and restaurant/bar which is such a nice feature! There were not a lot of dining options in this area, so having an on-site restaurant/bar is such a nice touch! It's nice to know they've added prepared food "available at The Village pool snack bar and FCF Golf Course Pro Shop. Groceries are sold at the camp store in The Village." All that hiking makes a girl hungry! Tennessee does their state parks right, ya'll! If you haven't visited Fall Creek Falls, you are definitely missing out! There's something for everyone and it really is a peaceful, tranquil, beautiful retreat. read more

While the forest and waterfalls are beautiful, the overall park leaves a lot to be desired. The campsites are on top of each other with no privacy at all. The customer service is one of the worst I've experienced in a state or federal park. I'm glad I saw the falls but I will not return. read more

I had felt implicitly that there is generally a hierarchy of parks, where national parks tend to take the best land, state parks snap up some more provincial attractions, and local parks are the leftovers. But while this one is a state park, it is quite majestic, boasting what they claim is the tallest waterfall east of the Rockies, which can be seen from a distance but also offers what must be a refreshing swim underneath (I didn't have time). You wouldn't want to be swimming anywhere near the top of that waterfall, because the area is apparently prone to flash floods and other dangers, which is how it became a park in the first place. Unlike a lot of parks, it is not a cul-de-sac and you can effectively drive through it and come out the other end, helpful for travelers with places to be. The amenities appeared substantial, and many campers with tents and travelers with RVs were present. You can apparently drive quite close to the falls, but I drove to the nature center instead. I will say that it was one of the least impressive nature centers I've ever seen, being mostly a small gift shop, with one video on the history of the park playing and very little in the way of educational value. I did only a loop to the main overlook and back, spending an hour or two. I was charged no money (other than the gas I spent getting here), though I did note some ranger-led tours of the lake and the forest were offered for a fee and looked interesting. Even outside the main falls, there were plenty of other waterfalls, overlooks, swimming areas, and trails. It was a park where one could easily spend days and is certainly worth far more time than I had to devote to it. read more

This is a beautiful park. The falls weren't big but we enjoyed them. It's a nice day outing. There are so many downed trees from Hurricane Helen that came through a couple of months age. Big patches of no standing trees. Some root bases were 5-20 feet across. Amazing to see. We went to the visitors center and I was talking to the gal at the desk about the hurricane. She said she sat right where she was sitting as we talked and she watched the hurricane cross the road right in front of her. I think she said they were stranded there for days because of flooding and down trees. There's a big beautiful lake and great hiking patches. We will be back. read more

This State Park is one of Tennessee's largest and most visited state parks. The park encompasses more than 29,800 acres along the eastern Cumberland Plateau. Our group arrived just around Noon on a Saturday Pre-Easter Day. The temperature was in the low 60's and it was a gorgeous sunny, Spring Day! The parking lot was almost full of vehicles. Even though there were many people hiking to the Falls, it wasn't "crowded". The trail itself was clear of obstacles, and is rated as moderate (level of difficulty) probably due to some of the short ascents / descents. The Falls, at 256 feet, is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. It was truly spectacular and there are a couple of observation decks one can take photos from and enjoy its magnificence. Another highlight was crossing the swift creek via the suspension (swinging) bridge. Everyone enjoyed it and if you've never had the opportunity to experience one, this is a must do. I would recommend you bring a bottle of water with you even though your hike is mostly shaded by large pines. The park is open 24 hours with the road leading to the falls being locked at dark. All Day Use Areas close at sunset. Remember to follow all Park Rules and to be safe while enjoying the many Park activities. I highly recommend this place, and look forward to returning in the future. read more

Third visit to park with family. Reasons we continue to visit are the numerous trails for all levels, clean accommodations, friendly Rangers and staff, and variety of activities. No motorized/gas boats permitted on lake so great for leisure activities and fishing. Check out the boat house, need a fishing license to fish on lake. We saw an active beaver den on our hike around the lake and an otter on a less traveled path to a stream. HIKING TIP: Download an App to track your activity while in the park. We recorded every hike we took, plus helped us find our way back to trails. If sending younger ones off alone, you can share locations. All trails in Fall Creek and outside park are on State Park App. Does drain battery so be fully charged when you start hike. LOCKING CAR TIP, ESPECIALLY RENTALS: put your keys on a lanyard during trip so they are easy to spot as you race to lock up and get to a trail. You are excited and keys are first thing to get misplaced. We wasted a hike trying to remember who had the key fob to the rental car or did we lose it on hike? With keyless starting, we all forgot and left car unlocked with key fob in center console. What a waste of a happy hike worrying about car keys. You can walk and hike to all waterfalls or you can drive to overlooks and enjoy the views. The park also offers an inexpensive passenger van ride with a ranger that takes up to 12,people to the various overlooks and provides history of the park. This park has hiking for beginners or less agile who want to enjoy the scenery with little to no elevation changes such as along the lake or streams. More strenuous or longer hikes are in the park and just outside the park as well, such as Wheeler Farm. The trails are clearly marked by color coded badges that indicate difficulty and help you navigate paths that interconnect. Pet friendly park and pets were on the trails. This visit we stayed 4 days in a one-story, three bedroom (5 beds) 2 bath fishing cabin on the lake. Clean and furnished including kitchen with the basics. We brought groceries and supplemented with items from the Park's general store. A grill was outside each cabin, but if are a serious cook when on vacation you might supplement grilling and cooking utensils and specialized cookware. Bring extra tin foil and cleaning supplies and toilet paper. State park provide basics, but not all comforts you might desire on a longer stay. Prior visits we stayed at the lodge and ate meals there, but lodge under renovation in spring 2020. Washer and dryer at park community area, not at the cabin so bring extra socks and under garners to avoid washing on trip. You do have to share machines and if park busy you don't want to spend time washing. read more

Great Park! 6 Great Waterfalls, Friendly Visitor Center Staff! So funny story... I had a friend visiting from out of stated and was taking him to Panther Falls/ Foster Falls and somehow GPS brought me here. AWESOME since I never had been here before and this is a great place! We pulled into the first visitors center and made a stop at the playground for my little guy to blow off some energy. Cool little playground but watch the slides in the end they are kid dangerous... Adult dangerous too, not sure who put steps into a slide but that kills the back.... There are 3 falls next to this visitor center and then you can hike 2.2 miles round trip and over a suspension bridge to see the tallest falls in the eastern US or you can drive there too. We hiked the happy little trail though the woods and enjoyed the nature and trees... We only saw 4 falls this trip since tiny got sleepy... great place! Beautiful! We enjoyed the falls and definitely will be back. read more

Fall Creek Falls is the most visited state park in Tennessee. It's HUGE, at almost 30,000 acres. Fall Creek Falls is 256 feet tall and claims to be one of the highest waterfalls on the eastern side of the Mississippi River, but there are three other waterfalls in the park- including Piney Falls, Cane Creek Falls, and Cane Creek Cascades. The land had been really badly eroded and in poor condition, but was purchased by the federal government in 1937. The CCC began restoring it, and the federal government transferred the property to the state government in 1944. It has a lodge hotel with 85 rooms and a full service restaurant, 30 cabins, over 200 RV/tent campsites, 30 back country camping sites, group camp sites, 20 miles of mountain bike trails, fishing, a golf course, a canopy challenge course, a general store, a nature center, boating, tennis courts, basketball court, a vistors center, and 56 miles of hiking. Hiking Trails include the Base of the Falls Trail (.35 mile), the Cable Trail (.10 mile), the Campground Trail (.15 miles), the Gilbert Gaul Trail (4.15 mile loop), the Link Trail (4.4 miles), the Lower Loop Trail (12 mile loop), the Millikans Overlook Trail (.45 miles), the Overlook Trail (.65 mile), the Paw Paw Trail (2.5 mile loop), the Piney Falls Path (.9 mile), the Prater Place Trail (3 miles), the Turkey Pen Ridge Trail (.5 mile), the Upper Loop Trail (13 mile loop), the Wheeler Farm Trail (1.5 mile loop), and the Woodland Trail (.75 mile). This park is gorgeous, and will easily fill your entire day with things to do. The views are awe-inspiring, and we enjoyed this so much! Spectacular views. Excellent amenities, Village Store, gift shop, snack bar, pool, lake. The visitor center is new and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The Nature Center is a must visit. Bathhouses are always clean. Some need updating but serve their purpose well. There is a golf course, luxury cabins and lodge but we did not use them. Three concerns. There is no way for families to safely bike from campgrounds to the pool. Many campers have a very difficult time leveling their campers. We did not eat at the lodge restaurant because the reviews, almost all them, are bad. read more

We were fortunate to stop by right after a rare heavy snowfall here in TN. The whole park was covered in snow and quite beautiful. We also saw very limited people which meant that it felt like we were only ones in the winter wonderland. Lots of good information from other people's review and if you're considering going, I highly recommend doing a day trip! About 2 hours from Nashville. The scenic loop was closed unfortunately, but we saw the other waterfalls! It's a relatively short hike for people looking for a proper 2-3hour hike. The main one the guide recommended was less than 2 miles round trip. We did not make the descent down to the bottom of the falls due to being not sure how slippery/icy it would be. Great reviews and information can be found by several people listing stuff out already so I'll skip all of that. I would go as far as to say, make a quick stop at the visitor center/souvenir shop and they will hook you up with a map and mark several places to stop along the way - also they highlight the 6 waterfalls you will encounter. Once you leave here, jump on the scenic loop and it will take you around to the viewpoint for Fall Creek Falls. Parking area is close to the overview which makes it possible for pretty much anyone to enjoy the spectacular view. If you choose to get an up close and personal view of the falls you will embark on a .4 mile hike that certainly registers on the strenuous scale .... steep and lots of tree roots obstruct the pathway. Rock steps lead the way, but all with a slight downward angle making it possible to slip quite easily - especially if they are at all damp. Once you get there though, well worth the 30 minute hike to get down here. Great view from the base of the falls. Really the only negative is that you have to go back up. In actuality the hike up, will get the heart rate going and give you a good cardio workout - aside from that it seems a little easier going back up then coming down. Well worth spending some time here to explore. We did make the scenic loop before dark and had plenty of nice gorge over look points. We also were able to see Piney Creek Falls as the sun was setting. Great place to explore .... wish we had a little more time - at least it gives us an excuse to come back. read more

FALL CREEK FALLS STATE PARK is an excellent one stop shop for multiple waterfalls! There are at least 6 that I will list below to make it easier for you to find. - - - - - [ MULTIPLE WATERFALLS ] 1) FALL CREEK FALLS is a 256' tall freefalling waterfall and the main namesake of the park. It can be accessed either by hiking the WOODLANDS TRAIL from the Betty Dunn Nature Center -or- turning left @ the Visitor's Center onto Lakeside Road, driving about 1.5 miles and then turning right onto Scenic Loop Road and follow the signs to the Overlook Parking Area. ** HIKING from the Betty Dunn Nature Center is approximately 3/4 of a mile to the Fall Creek Falls Overlook. You will follow the trail leading over the suspension bridge, but be forwarded, this bridges is super wobbly when multiple people are crossing and can cause a little bit of anxiety for folks who fear such things. Even I felt some trepidation when normally I don't. The design of the bridge not only causes up and down motion, but can sway side to side as well. What brings anxiety is the design practically forces you to walk directly down the center without holding onto the guard cables. I seriously felt like Donkey from Shrek when crossing the bridge into the Dragon's Lair. "I'M GONNA DIE, I'M GONNA DIE!" kept echoing in my head! LOL ** Hiking from the Fall Creek Falls overlook to the base is approximately 1/4 of a mile and a VERY STEEP & ROCKY DESCENT. You're gonna burn some calories on the way back from the base. There is a large bolder that you can take great pics from near the base or you can continue down to the actual splash zone of the falls. 2) COON CREEK FALLS is 250' tall and is directly to the right of Fall Creek Falls. While you may think they are the same waterfall, they are actually two separate creeks that happen to drop over the same cliff in the same area. Coon Creek Falls is heavily dependent on recent rainfall and may not be flowing as vigorously as Fall Creek Falls. It was almost dry on our visit (June 5th, 2021). 3) CANE CREEK CASCADE is just below the suspension bridge and can be accessed using a set off wooden stairs behind the Nature Center. There is a large swimming hole at the base of the cascades or you can follow the river downstream to the top of Cane Creek Falls. Be very careful, the fall from the crest of Cane Creek Falls to the rocky base is 85'. 4) CANE CREEK FALLS can be best viewed from above via the Gorge Overlook Trail just off the Woodlands Trail that leads to Fall Creek Falls -or- from the Overlook near the Betty Dunn Nature Center parking area. However, for the most spectacular perspective, follow the PawPaw Trail from the Nature Center parking to the Cable Trail (which leads to the base of the falls). We did not know about this option on our visit and would have made for a much more spectacular pic of Cane Creek Falls. 5) ROCKHOUSE FALLS is the thinner ribbon-like waterfall that is directly to the left of Cane Creek Falls on photos, but taller overall @ 125'. You cannot see Rockhouse Falls from the Nature Center Overlook, but you can by taking the Cable Trail to the base of the falls or you can view it from the Gorge Overlook Trail. 6) PINEY CREEK FALLS is the 4th tallest waterfall in the park @ 95', but in my opinion it is the best looking of the bunch. It is hella-difficult to access the base, so most will have to settle for the overlook view. To access the overlook, follow the driving directions above from the Visitor Center to Fall Creek Falls overlook parking area. However, you will need to make the first left once on Scenic Loop Road to the Piney Creek Falls parking area. ** Websites says the only two ways to the base of this waterfall are by a long hike upstream or rappelling down the cliffside... which on my part would be a FIRM NO THANK YOU! - - - - - [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Fall Creek Fall State Park is a great way to spent a day or weekend in nature!!! The 29,800 acres forest is sprawled across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau. Activities include: - Rock Climbing - Canopy Challenge Course - Hiking (56 miles of trails) - Biking - Fishing - Birding - Swimming - Golf - Camping AND, according to my hiking partner Jess, it's full of Pokemon too (whatever that means). It is no surprise this is one of Tennessee's largest and most visited state parks and I'm rather ashamed it has taken me this long to visit. I've been hiking for about 5 or 6 years now and Fall Creek Falls is without a doubt my favorite, most frequent spot. Whether you want to make it an all-day thing or just enjoy the scenery for awhile, this is the place for you. There are overlooks, waterfalls, bridges, rocks to climb, picnicking, camping, the whole shebang. Time and time again I'm amazed by how beautiful the views are, especially during the summer. Saturday morning my youngest son Micah, my buddy Michael, and I went fishing and hiking at Fall Creek Falls State Park. I'd never stopped by before, but had driven through once on my way home from Dunlap, but never really got a chance to enjoy it or to see any of the Falls. We started out the morning fishing at the dock where Micah caught 3 bluegill. Then we ventured to a couple different falls and the bridge. And did some hiking. Finally we found a nice shady spot to fish again over by the cabins. It was a beautiful and relaxing day just hanging out with the boys. Glad we decided to do it read more

Family favorite. We visit here at least once a year. The waterfall in the summer almost runs dry. As you can see in the photo not a lot of water was coming down. Still nice 1 mile hike going down to see this. Kids had fun in the water down below. Hike back up to the mountain can be a little difficult for not not use to this type of activity. It's always easier going down. read more

Fall Creek Falls State Park - Waterfall - Parks Near Me - Spencer, Tennessee

I received an email from the Department of Tourism of TN, and I'm glad I did. I love waters and decided to stop at Fall Creek Falls State Park on our way back to Wisconsin. What a wonderful place. They have tent, RV , cabins, and a new lodge to stay in. We stayed in the lodge. Our room was great with a lake view. The restaurant/bar was a little small in season it could hard to get in. My ribs were yummy, and my husband's steak and shrimp were also delicious. Our waitress was great but she forgot my husband's salad and our rolls. After a good night's sleep, we had a continental breakfast that came with our room. There are 3 main falls, Fall River Falls drops 248 ft, Piney and Cane Creek Falls, and they were all breathtaking. The park also has non motorized boat rental , swimming pool, golf, and more. We will be stopping again. read more

Fall Creek Falls is absolutely a beautiful park. As a friend highly recommended this place, so do I. I highly recommend Falls Creek Falls State Park in Spencer TN. This beautiful park has, from what I saw clean camping sites, great hiking trails, biking trails, and several waterfalls; the main waterfall is also the highest waterfall in East Tennessee. It stands at about 270+ feet. At the park, you will also come across marina on a lake, snack bar & grilling areas. We went on a day trip yesterday not expecting much and we ended up spending the whole day at the parking. We did about 6 hours of hiking. We visit 3 waterfalls at this park. The drive thru the park is phenomenal with all the scenery and kind of reminds me of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I heard someone say they don't recommend bringing dogs due to how rough some trails are but I saw several dogs at the park. As long you're dog is healthy and can handle certain rough trails, you should be okay. Hiking to bottom of Falls Creek Falls is quite steep and very rocky. Proceed with caution. Also, please have the right shoes. I saw way too many people hiking with non-hiking shoes and regretting it. Other hikes to waterfalls are a wee bit easier. Overall, this was a great nature adventure. Bring some water, snacks & towel. read more
