This is a very cool music store, adjacent to the music store is a coffee house, in fact they are together. The coffee house has a stage with gear and it looks like they are ready to go. A musician just has to plug in and play. Open mic on Tuesdays. They have an array of used guitars and consignment instruments. I played a few guitars and talked with Steve. As I was playing a number of people came in and signed up for lessons. I had a coffee with a shot of espresso for $3.17. Free Wifi here also. read more

One of the few music stores in Raleigh that actually has a sound stage that's set up for recording in a back room. Visit them on Tuesday nights to enjoy the open mic musicians and one Friday night a month for an open mic for praise and worship musicians. Steve, the owner, is very helpful (so is his wife). His son, David is running a little coffee shop on the opposite side of the store so be sure to order an espresso or cappucino while you're browsing over the instruments and equipment. This store specializes in guitars, guitar equipment and providing lessons. The instructors are top notch and if you've ever heard any of them play you'd wonder why in the world they settled for giving lessons. Why aren't they playing in some big name famous band somewhere with all the talent they have in them? I think these guys have more talent in their little pinkies than I have in my entire being but that's beside the point. When this shop gets guitars in, it's tough for them to keep most of those instruments in stock. My latest (big) purchase here was a mandolin - not that I'm any good at playing it, but I want to learn. Steve found me a decent quality Ovation acoustic electric mandolin at a very reasonable price that will far outlast some of the much more inexpensive beginner mandolins he typically has in stock. My last comments revolve around the techs who work on the guitars here. Not every broken down guitar is a success story and some just cannot be fixed. One of Steve's techs did wonders with one of my basses. I had an old Kramer Striker I'd gotten at a pawn shop years ago that was now virtually unplayable. This tech not only made it playable, but made it such that I was willing to part with my Fender P-bass shortly thereafter. Since then, the same tech has done set up work for me on almost all of my guitars, getting them all back into top playing shape. read more

This is an awesome music shop. My two sons (ages 12 and 15) participated in the music camp. They learned to play in a band (playing keyboard) in a week. At the end of the week they did a fantastic concert for the families. Steve, the owner was so nice and helpful. My kids loved him and they learned a lot about playing keyboard in a band. read more

This was by far one of the WORST experiences we have EVER had. We bought a groupon to try out this music school. We set up the time with the owner. Our kids were taking guitar and piano. We really LOVED the piano instructor. The guitar instructor was okay. My first red flag should have been when the owner wanted to charge me for the trial after finding out I had a groupon. I actually received 3 lessons for a 4 lesson groupon. Then it started. We went in one day and we were told by the staff on duty that we owed money for all of the past lessons. We paid what was requested of us and asked to be called by someone who handled the books so we could work it out. The owner was Steve was extremely rude and after taking way too much time out of my work day I finally understood his ridiculous bookkeeping methods. Btw- I have a college degree in mathematics. At that point I started keeping my own records. I knew we wouldn't be returning and I was showing that we were owed one more lesson from the money I paid them. I asked to have them clarified on their end. Once again Steve called me but this time SCREAMING that I never paid them. I sent him an email with the 2 groupons attached as well as the large payment I made and told him we wouldn't be returning. Life is too busy to work with someone of this demeanor who can't handle their bookkeeping. It was again the most ridiculous experience I think I have EVER had with a business owner. I have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully by someone who is trying to earn your hard earned money. It is a shame too as again we really loved the piano instructor but NEVER NEVER NEVER would I go back here because the owner is a mess. read more

My son took guitar lessons at Falls River music for three years. It was a great experience and he really learned a lot even considering that he did not practice as much as he should have. His guitar instructor was a great guy to work with and the owners were always helpful. The instructor helped my son learn any song that he wanted to play. After graduating high school, my son is not as interested in continuing with guitar so that's the only reason we're not keeping up with his lessons. But I think he has a good foundation to continue playing on his own. read more

Couldn't be happier with Falls River Music! Their summer camp was amazing, and all their instructors are fantastic.

My daughter has participated in the week long summer Rock Camp at Falls River Music for the past 4 years. We visit Raleigh, NC from CA every summer and this camp is always top on her list of Must Do's whenever we visit. When she first started in the camp, she was a pretty good keyboardist but a shy singer. Over the years I've noticed her blossom into a more confident singer and am so pleased with how she has improved. She is already looking forward to next year's camp! read more

Just came in without an appointment and asked for a violin string to be changed for a concert tonight. I waited only 5 minutes for the teacher to have a lesson change, and she said with a smile, "absolutely!" Talk about wonderful customer service! I don't know about the quality of their music lessons, but it's a great start. read more

The first time I called, I had to call a few times to get a live person. I showed up to give them 2 instruments to repair. Their hours are terrible, so it was a special trip. The guy at the register is slow. He had trouble taking in the instruments for repair. I had to ask for someone else. The lady that came out was nice and helpful. I called a few times to get an answer again. I called to check on my instruments and the same guy answered. He had trouble answering questions and comprehending the info give. I made it clear when I dropped the instruments off that I'd need to pick them up Thurs and I wouldn't have another opportunity to pick them up this week. The guy told me today that they weren't ready. I told him that was my only opportunity to pick up the instruments this week. He responded, "you can pick them up tomorrow". The words "only opportunity" must be too big for him to understand. So now I don't have what I need for Sat. This place won't last. I definitely won't be using their services again. read more

The Kids Track Out Camp, was absolutely AMAZING! I had 3 children attend, 2 boys, 6 and 8 and one girl 6. They all had a wonderful time, made new friends and learned to jam! Friday night the kids that attended camp performed a live concert for the parents and extended families. How often do you get to see your children in a live concert performance??? This is the camp and place that makes it happen and it was magical!!!! Steven Coon the owner and his right-hand man Matt are very talented and engaging musicians and teachers!!!! I'm a 57 year old man that has wanted to learn to play the guitar my whole life. I attempted it several times; on my own, with lessons, etc. with no success. Then I went to Falls River Music and got hooked up with the owner, Steve, using a Groupon I purchased. I can't say enough about Falls River Music, and Steve in particular. He has a way to teach guitar that I never came across before and I was able to actually play in a very short time period. Obviously, playing any instrument requires a commitment from the student to practice, but Steve started me out playing the major chords, and in short order, he exposed me to literally hundreds of songs I could play. I took lessons from Steve every week for a year, and learned something new every time I went. After that first year, I thought it was up to me to really practice all of the things I was taught by Steve. Now here I am, about 2 years after starting with Steve, and I can honestly say, I can play the guitar! I'm nothing special, and hope to continue to improve, but if anyone thinks they are too old to learn to play the guitar, all I can tell you is, baloney. You just need someone like Steve to get you started. Steve, I hope you get to read this, because I want you to know how thankful I am for what you did for me. read more
