I can't say enough good things about the mid-wife team I was blessed to have during the duration of my pregnancy and delivery! Every visit was sincere care and encouragement. I ended up with a high-risk pregnancy and had to be transferred to care at Cox South. This beautiful mid-wife team went with me, advocated for me, and gave me every possibly chance at the most natural birth possible. They held pressure points to relieve my contractions, they soothed me with essential oils and worked along side team I was assigned to at Cox. I ended up needing an emergency c-section after signs of preeclampsia developed into HELLP Syndrome. I was heartbroken but the Family Birth & Wellness team never left me. They truly doubled as a doula in my case and also helped me understand all the hospital lingo and presented me with more knowledge and options which put me in a strong place of power when advocating for myself and my baby. My postnatal care though is really where they won my heart. Without saying too much detail... baby was delivered c-section, however, the placenta was left in and I was sewn up with it inside of me. Cox doctors didn't believe me when I said I felt something was wrong like something was inside of me, even though my puffy preeclampsia state didn't go away after baby was born as it normally would. My midwife team however took me very seriously, monitored my blood pressure and as I got sicker and sicker post birth they determined I had an infected uterus and an appendix at risk of eruption. They immediately got me meds for my high blood pressure and sent me into the ER ASAP. ER doctors thought the assessment was ridiculous but despite push back from the ER doctors, I stated firmly, with all confidence in my midwife team, that the tests needed to be done! Yes!! Turns out my uterus was infected and my appendix was inflamed. ER doctors were in amazement and kept asking how I knew... how a midwife would know... ...and got me into surgery immediately to avoid an eruption of the appendix. So, would I trust Family Birth & Wellness with my life? And my baby's life? YES, Yes I would. Zero doubts or hesitations... because, you see, I did once, and they saved me. I had a really good experience the first few visits however as my pregnancy progressed it got worse. We chose a midwife because we wanted to have minimal medical intervention as possible for our sixth birth. After having five successful vaginal deliveries we were confident that our sixth delivery would be similar, easy enough we wouldn't need to go to a hospital. When I questioned the midwifes authority and said I didn't want a procedure that was dangerous to me and the baby they fired back an email saying they were severing our relationship I was 40 weeks and 6 days and without any sort of discussion they threw me out in the cold. Thankfully I was able to walk into Cox hospital two days later and have another easy vaginal delivery. My advice don't go here unless you're willing to blindly do whatever they want regardless of the safety of you or your baby. read more

I had my daughter with them in 2017 and am currently pregnant with my second child. I'm receiving care with them again. I couldn't be happier with my experience. They made me feel comfortable, informed, and safe. They answered all of my questions and concerns, and went above and beyond to make sure I had a healthy pregnancy. read more

Absolutely the best place to welcome your baby into the world. The staff is phenomenal. I literally had the dream team on deck during my labor and then my delivery as well! I cannot thank the ladies that were on duty that night enough for working so hard to help me through a few roller coaster rides and then to see through the perfect delivery experience. I've delivered at a different birth center before and would never ever ever go anywhere else after my experience here! I will be forever grateful! Carla you were our savior. Literally, if it wasn't for you I would not of had the delivery I wanted! You are so great at what you do. James and I will never ever forget how hard you worked with me! Thank you with all my heart! Absolutely loved our experience at FBW! Cannot say enough how thankful we are to have received care here. We transferred care for postpartum, and I never felt we were treated with any less care or respect than if we had been there from the beginning. I enjoyed getting to know each of the midwives, and they each took interest in my needs and concerns. The environment is the perfect balance of professional and comfort, which is the best combination for a safe and healing pregnancy and postpartum experience. As an added bonus, FBW now offers pediatric care through the My Healthy Kids clinic, so we have taken our babe here since birth and have no plans to go elsewhere! We are very impressed by this clinic and will for sure be back for all future pregnancies, as well as pediatrics and women's health. read more

PLEASE READ AND SHARE!!! HELP THIS GO VIRAL!! On May 28th we met with a mid-wife at the Family Birth and Wellness Center & Wellness Center in Springfield, MO. The mid-wife we met with was not the mid-wife we scheduled our meeting with (she was attending a birth) & we were a little apprehensive to meet her as she was not the person we chose. We are firm believers that everything happens for a reason & by the end of our one hour meeting, we adored the replacement mid-wife, so much so we wanted to asked her to assist us in our birth. We felt we asked all the right questions (water birth, Doula's, father inclusion, vaccinations, chord blood, etc.) & we definitely felt we had the same beliefs & values regarding birth & family. Since May 29th we had been trying to contact the Family Birth & Wellness Center via phone & email so we could personally ask Corina if she would be our mid-wife. It wasn't until the morning of June 4th that we finally were able to get someone to pick-up the phone. I told the receptionist that we wanted to speak with Corina as we felt strongly she was a good fit for us & our birth & asked her to please have Corina call us. At noon I received a very cold & impersonal email from a bot (The Management and Midwives at FB&WC) at the Family Birth & Wellness Center stating, "We feel that you will not be a good fit with our birth practice" without even so much of a shred of explanation why. Needless to say, we feel rejected & confused. The first thing I did was run to the bathroom & cried my eyes out. Hundreds of questions raced through my mind like, "How could they reject us? What did we do? What's wrong with us? Why didn't they offer any sort of explanation why?" I felt & still feel rejected, ashamed, embarrassed, hurt, but most importantly I am afraid. I am afraid that we will not have the opportunity to bring our child into this world the way that we want. I am afraid we will be stuck with a birthing plan that doesn't meet our wants & needs. Most importantly, I am now afraid of & certainly do not trust any mid-wife or birthing center as Family Birth & Wellness Center has left a horrible taste in our mouths & set incredibly low standards for their industry. We were wanting to share our very first birthing experience with them, THERE IS NOTHING MORE PERSONAL than birth! Yet, we were rejected in the cruelest & coldest way possible...via email & not even from an actual person. It is one thing to reject me, but in this case my family & our child-to-be was rejected too. I can't express to you the pain we are going through right now. After I was able to collect myself & push back the tears we called & asked to speak management so we could get a reason for our harsh rejection. Management would not take our call then & thus far has not returned our phone call which is only adding insult to injury. For many years we have been heavily involved in the Springfield community & we rarely ask for anything in return. We help as many people & businesses as we can & we never pass up the opportunity to spread the word about others doing good for our town whether it be for business, charity or personal. Today, we are asking for your help. Please share this message with as many moms, dads, families & members of our community as you can. It is an outrage for a business to treat any person in this fashion, but it is even more of an outrage considering industry & the extremely personal nature of it. The Family Birth & Wellness Center needs to understand this is NOT how the good folks of Springfield, Missouri deserve to be treated! We deserve much better. read more

Mary and her team are incredible midwives! My son is here because they caught things the docs didn't. Though I ended up in the hospital they stayed by my side and took incredible care of me. After I delivered Mary checked on me and brought me snacks because she knew I couldn't eat hospital food due to allergies. I trust my life with these women. read more

Pros: Personal and intimate environment, longer appointments and more one-on-one attention than a traditional OB, natural and holistic options for treatment of pregnancy complications and labor and delivery. Cons: Somewhat disorganized, understaffed (during my pregnancy, from September 2014 to April 2015), confusion with passing care back and forth with ultrasound techs and perinatologist, confusion in regards to payment and insurance coverage. Since I gave birth, the Family Birth and Wellness Center has moved their location (now at 1901 S Ventura) and hired additional staff. While my birth experience was pleasant and memorable, I will likely use a traditional OBGYN for any other pregnancies to avoid the headache in paying/insurance/seeing specialists. read more

I interviewed with this midwife group for a second pregnancy, so I was already familiar with pregnancy and birth. Also I have worked in holistic healthcare for years and my parents are nurses, so I have plenty of medical knowledge. I was not impressed with Family Birth and Wellness. The midwife I met was far less friendly and professional than I would have expected, and failed to recognize the signs that I was suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. They never followed up with me as to their decision whether I was the "right fit" or not for their group, which is flamingly unprofessional. This group seems to have a bit of an agenda--if you don't fit their model of the perfectly healthy, perfectly happy pregnancy, they don't want you. I felt like the whole setup was more about their "vision" of birth than about the actual mother delivering a baby. If you're a woman who knows her own mind, or if you have any kind of medical issue, no matter how small, approach with caution. read more

After giving birth here in April 2015 I was pretty happy with my experience. However, as time goes on I'm not very happy. They were disorganized and lost several staff within in the time I was there and soon after. I've heard and can experience that their transfer rate is not as low as they will probably tell you. There is more that I will not go into. Bottom line: I wouldn't recommend them. read more
