Stopped here for a break and lunch while passing through Indiana. The Farmhouse Restaurant menu…read moresaid they offer a "quick & casual lunch" and well, they weren't lying about the casual part... We ordered two lunches, both the 1/2 grilled cheese and soup. One with tomato soup and the other with chili. We also ordered the *special* $5 egg salad sandwich. The grilled cheese came out as some cheese microwaved between a soft burger bun. Really disappointing and crappy. The chili and soup were okay. The egg salad sandwich was very basic and lacking flavor, served on classic white bread. It was also a weird dining setup, it felt like we were eating in a giant and deserted beer hall. Total transparency: we both expected more from one of the nation's largest dairy farms. We also thought the food would be a little cleaner, like a farm-to-table experience and less processed, but it tasted like food we could get at a gas station. My husband was disappointed with the ice cream selection at the milk bar, he was hoping for more of a variety other than the basic strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, etc. We also needed to get DEF for our truck from the Fair Oaks BP and my husband called it "highway robbery" for the cost we paid. He said it was 2 or 3 times what he normally pays. In summary, a total tourist trap with crappy lunch food. I also didn't know about their animal abuse case from 2019 until after we left. And the allegations about neglect and improper slaughter in 2023. Gross and sad.

Next time I was there. It was a little expensive, but worth the trip if you don't take The trip to Chicago often from indy. I also got the ice cream, chocolate, ice cream, specifically, and thought it was delicious too. I've had better ice cream, but dairy farms, always take a step above the franchise ice cream business. On the inside of the café, they have a glass window where you can see the people preparing cheese. Well not much was happening when I was there, it's a super unique idea. Don't plan to come back by myself, would come back with my girlfriend next time we're driving up to Chicago!

I had lunch here before leaving the Fair Oaks Farm campus…read more At first I was nervous because everything on the menu was either prepackaged and contained gluten and/or dairy or looked to be things like grilled cheese. Thankfully there were two sandwiches I could do if I made it gluten free by ordering without bread and dairy free by getting it sans cheese! I got the Cuban--pork and ham, pickles, mustard. It was really good! The pork was flavorful and I really enjoyed it (when it's not my go-to). I made it a combo meal and got a side of coleslaw and an unsweetened iced tea. Both were good! They were fairly quick with getting our order out despite it being a group of 5 at lunch time with a decent line of guests. It was a bit noisy in there with so many people, but we were able to have a nice convo and eat before parting ways to head home. There aren't any dairy free ice cream options, not even a sorbet that I saw, which I feel is a missed opportunity on their part. The Cowfé also houses Fair Oaks merch and other gift shop items. Candles, honey, stuffies, magnets, etc. So it's worth a stop before you head out if you want souvenirs!

It came with three different sauces: beer-infused mustard, tangy barbecue and creamy horseradish. I could have just sat here and ate charred pork and drank beer and I would have been happy. We also got a Caesar salad, which was OK but would have been a bit better if it came dressed -- the dressing came on the side. The wedge salad was good but was less of a wedge and more of a regular salad. Fenwick Farms has a kids menu, which features things like cheeseburgers, buttered noodles, chicken strips and other kid-friendly foods. Each kids meal comes with a side and a dessert (ice cream sundae), although we didn't get our ice cream, but it was fine because my kids didn't need anymore sugar that day. Speaking of kids: They have free arcade games to play! My kids played Pac-Man and NBA Jam while we waited for our food. The Fenwick Farms Brewing Co. beer is made right here at the brewery, and this is the first and only craft brewery in Rensselaer. They have 30 different beers on tap (most their own, some guest beers), and they offer flights. Indiana knows how to do craft beer, and FFBC is another great example of great beer.

I don't have many expectations when it comes to gas stations and their connivence stores and…read morerestrooms. This location failed most of them. What drew me here was the fact gas was a full $.15 cents cheaper than the Family Express just off I65 at the expressway exit. Good gas prices are very important and this was the cheapest station between my home in Chicago and my destination in Lafayette, Indiana. Thank goodness for the mobile app Gas Buddy. The gas process went great. My pump worked well from the card reader to the flow out of the nozzle and the cleanliness of the pump and surrounding area. I was on my way to an impressive visit. Then I went inside. There is just one restroom for one person. Seems odd to not have at least two singles. There was a line of three people I waited in for my bathroom turn. Each person who came out either looked in distress or mentioned "It's bad in there". Well this was the filthiest restroom I've found in all of Indiana so far. The toilet seat had multiple things smeared on on the side of the toilet and on top of the seat, the water in the sink was freezing, and there was only a blower, no paper towels. So after washing and drying your hands you're forced to touch the super nasty door handle to get out making the act of washing your hands just useless. When I went directly to the clerk on duty to notify her of what was going on she replied "Yeah, I know". Really? Even as the only employee she could have locked the store and posted a sign "Back in less than two minutes" or something. I've worked many food and retail businesses and one restroom like that takes a minute to clean and sanitize. 60 or 120 seconds lasts a while if you really time it out. And knowing about the filth, being rude about it, and taking no action on it is just awful. The store portion of the station seems set up quite well. Full selection of drinks with soda, freezes, and coffees in great quantity. The donuts I picked up ended up being very stale and it was just after 11am. So while most things seemed clean and organized the restroom condition and attitude of the employee made this a rather unhappy experience.
