What a wonderful little shop for soup, sandwiches, and salads. We found The Homestead while traveling through the backroads of Indiana. It was the perfect lunch spot. They sell baked goods and bulk foods in the front of the house with a deli counter and dining room in the back. I had the Homestead Stack on an incredible ciabatta roll. My wife enjoyed the Grilled Cheese with Colby and provolone also on that great ciabatta roll. She also had the scratch-made chicken noodle soup. It was exactly what she had been hoping for. I bought a package of cinnamon rolls to take home. They were terrific and reminded me of our trip to Remington for the rest of the week. I'd recommend going a little out of your way to visit these folks. I was told they were opening in West Lafayette, a real treat for Boilermakers. read more

Highly recommend it as my friend loved it and said the chicken slices were tender, moist and delicious. Huge variety and can a few prepared salads on your plate as well. $2.50 free refill beverages with great self serve iced tea and lemonade as well as carbonated beverages. I indulged in $4 Blueberry pie and it was great. Interesting store; like a cuter, upgraded Cracker Barrel. I have traveled the world looking for good Reuben sandwiches, and I am invariably disappointed in what I find. Doesn't keep me from trying, though. So I was interested in what The Homestead had to offer. I must say it is in the Top Three that I have had anywhere. The only possible knock was that the bread was in the toaster about five seconds too long. Other than that, it was nigh perfect. Reasonably priced also. The store has lots of goodies to to buy and take home, but it is not very diabetic friendly. :-) I could have easily dropped several hundred dollars on treats of every kind, but I would have killed myself by the end of the week eating all the great-looking sweets. Well worth going there if you are passing thru and don't want chain food. If I lived there I would be there regularly. read more

We happened upon this place by accident when the restaurant we were looking for turned out to be closed. To our most pleasant surprise, we walked into the Homestead! Quaint little shop with jellies, jams, as well as unique gift items greeted us at the front of the store. As we wandered back and saw freezers full of casseroles, pies, breads and cinnamon rolls, we saw the homemade pastry case and salad bar with a cash register at the end of the counter and menus to order warm sandwiches. We ordered, received our number and sat in the cute little dining area. The food was AMAZING! I could tell that the ham, egg and cheese English muffin sandwich was on homemade English muffins. Absolutely delicious! I will most definitely go back and probably purchase some of the food products and gifts. I highly recommend visiting the Homestead! read more

Amazing sandwiches! I split 3 sandwiches. The ruben is the best i've every had. BBQ was also amazing. As well as the Italian, but if you don't like banana peppers make sure to ask to not have them. I had there oreo truffle and that was just as great. this place is very cute and has a homey feeling. This amazing place is only a few minutes out of the way if you are getting on I65. The food was delicious and so fresh. We tried the italian and chicken bacon ranch sandwiches; they were extremely tasty. The staff was very friendly. The store is filled with great selections to take home from frozen meals to incredibly scented candles. This is one stop you do not want to miss. The dining room and bathrooms are impeccable clean. The women's restroom has the best baby changing station I have ever seen. I can not say enough about how fantastic this place is. I wish we had something like this where I live. read more

The sandwich is called the Home Stack, it is simply incredible, the ciabatta roll is perfect, the meat, cheese and dressings create a terrific balance. At seven dollars, this is an incredible value. The Reuben, also seven dollars, was quite good as well. Helpful note: you order at the deli counter, pay the cashier, take a number and your meal is brought to your table. That is after you find the dining room, this place is a maze of quality food items neatly tucked into an amazing interior. The hot sandwich was fantastic but this place is much more than a restaurant. A wide selection of take home items neatly displayed throughout the store. The frozen items as well as special salad dressings looked quite interesting, white barbecue sauce, I've got to try this sometime. The place was bustling, appears that the locals are quite familiar with this jewel. The functionality of this busy operation is nearly as special as the store itself.
