I have only used a walk in clinic once when I was about 10, my parents brought me when I came down with a horrible cold. It was a horrible place, so my only memories were of a horrible waiting room and a long wait. So I was very hesitant when I came to Family First a walk-in clinic as an adult. I hurt my hand over a month ago and I had been delaying having someone look at it. My primary care does not have the tools to do so and an ER seemed way to extreme. Upon entering the Family First Urgent Care I was pleasantly surprised. The inside is gorgeous, clean, and vey welcoming. I explained to the front desk attendant my situation and that I also had no experience with a walk-in clinic. She explained everything to me and gave me some paperwork to fill out. It was a Thursday evening and I was one of only 3 people there. After filling out my paperwork I waited about 10 minutes until a nurse retrieved me. The nurse brought me into a super clean and nice patient room he asked me some questions and was extremely nice and comfortable to talk to. After the doctor came in and spoke to me and ran some tests. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. Overall, I am so glad I know of this place. It is close to my home, it was super clean and nice. The attendance, nurse, and doctor were all extremely nice and easy to talk to. I didn't have to wait long and the whole experience definitely changed my perspective of a walk-in. read more

Visited 3 days ago 7- 13-26 with chest congestion and cough ( real bad) I was sent away and told to take over the counter meds. Fast forward today.. ER. Sinus and bronchial infection and they administered antibiotics, inhaler and steroids!! Think the guy could have least prescribed an antibiotic for a 68 yr old from Family First. Horrible diagnosis!! My wife went to this facility today she had something in her foot and was in so much pain. We got there Cindy took a X-ray and was very attentive. Then we met two very caring PA's Katherine and Danielle who took the time to remove what was in my wife's foot. Relieved the pain immediately. Very caring facility and very attentive personnel. I brought my daughter here while on vacation in the area. They do not tell you that the only medical provider on staff is a physician's assistant, not a doctor. We waited over an hour to be seen by him for a 5-minute appointment where he examined my daughter's ear and determined she had an ear infection, which was obvious from her symptoms. However my issue isn't with the PA, he was friendly and competent. My issue is that I was charged $415 for this visit and was sent a bill prior to getting any adjustments from my insurance company (which is in-network). This charge is beyond any reasonable and customary charge for a 5-minute total appointment with a PA. After adjustments from my insurance the bill is $250 -- still far out of line with my own pediatrician's rates. I was directed to an online payment system that charges an additional $5 service fee for paying my bill. I will NEVER return to this office for the misleading website (which carefully uses the word "provider" instead of doctor so you don't realize until you get there who you are seeing) and for the price-gouging billing far out of line of standard rates. read more

The most effective place for a COVID-19 test. Making an appointment is very easy to make as you do it online and fill out your symptoms there. The office is also very clean and the staff are all friendly and compassionate. I am greeted warmly every time I come here. I went to this Urgent care location today because it was recommended by a few friends. Upon being seen by the nurse he was very polite and asked my health background and check vitals. It unfortunately all stopped there. When the female PA came in she introduced herself and asked what was wrong. I explained that I had a scratchy throat and I believe I got it from my daughter whom was diagnosed with a sinus infection earlier in the week. She immediately said I needed to get Covid tested since a sore throat/cough is a symptom. I have never been tested and was not comfortable with her testing me so I politely declined. I could tell she was not happy with me. The only thing she did to exam me was shine a light in my throat from about 2 feet away. She said she would do a strep test to rule that out. She left the room and upon shutting the door she announced to her coworkers that I refused to allow her to test me. The walls are not very thick in that place. Pretty sure that goes against doctor/patient confidentiality but what do I know. She stormed back in no strep test and just told me she would be giving me a prescription. I explained that I was sure I had gotten it from my daughter and she proceed to say that although someone diagnosed her she should have been tested as well. I told her it was her pediatrician who has been her doctor for 10 years that diagnosed her and I was confident in that. This whole experience is unreal and reminds me again why to never go to walk ins. I was stared at by all the employees as I walked out clearly shaming me for refusing to get tested. One of the most unprofessional places I have been to. I would also like to add that I did get covid tested where I was comfortable doing so and am awaiting results. read more

I scheduled my son for a rapid Covid test so that he would not have to miss school and would have the results as soon as possible, since he missed so much school last year due to the pandemic. Family First did a regular test which will now take 2 to 5 days to get the results and he will need to miss school until those results are in. When I phoned to ask why they did not perform the rapid test, they said they charge $50 it. I asked, so you charge $50 in addition to what the insurance pays? I work for a major pharmaceutical company that covers ALL Covid related testing and treatments. They also did not mention the $50 additional to my husband and give him that option when they were there. Family First then said we are not not government funded. I told her I had a rapid test done at a small private Medemerge on Friday and was not charged anything additional. It's a money maker. read more

About as pleasant an experience you can encounter. Wife's hand and arm swelled from a bite. We located the office about a 20 minute ride off the island. Greeted quickly and friendly and seen with in 10 minutes of arrival. PA was appropriately concerned took her time and explained the situation. Received a steroid shot and clear instructions. Could not of had a better experience with a the situation Keep it up I recommend to anyone with minor to moderate medical issues read more

Took my 15 year old son on a Saturday and they did a strip test and said it was viral and will run its course. On Sunday he was much worse so my wife called back demanding he be seen again.We arrived at 4 pm and they gave him a Covid test and a Z Pack.This is after they told us to go to his pediatrician and spend another 50 dollar copay. Our next door neighbor was in the office while my wife and son were there and when they left it was all fun and games a big joke. Well my neighbor recorded it all. I thought we were protected by hips laws. Sunday night we took him to Toms River Hospital where we saw a real doctor! They were great! Don't waste your time on these fake doctors. They don't know shit and how dare them talk about my 15 year old son. We have filed a complaint. read more

The PA and the nurses were extremely attentive and helpful to my diagnosis. I was cured in less than 24 hours! I took my daughter to Family First Urgent on Hooper Avenue in Toms River today, it was my first time at this urgent care. I have gone to other urgent cares in the Toms River area this one is the absolute best. Kevin the Medical Asst. was amazing. He was very professional, kind , thorough, and funny brightening up what is usually a long and scary process for kids to go through. The P.A. Dave was also great, making sure to explain everything he was about to do and why he did it. He also took the time to go over various courses of treatment with my daughter and I. I feel bad because i didn't get the lovely young woman's name at reception but she was very friendly and empathetic to our needs. Also, it was awesome that they gave my daughter a balloon and lollipop at the end of her visit, she is a teenager (they usually get looked over for little kid things) and she thought it was great! They were so kind on the phone taking my information and got me an appointment right away. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. In April 2021, I went home for college break and needed a negative test to return. I had just moved to Toms River three days before and was frantically looking for a testing location. I called this location and they said it was no problem and took me the next day. I went in for my COVID test, the nurse swabbed me, and then she sent me home. A few weeks later, I was exposed to COVID and needed to get another test and went to the same location. I went in for my COVID test, the nurse swabbed me, and then she sent me home. It is important to notice that in both of my instances, I NEVER saw a doctor. I only got my test taken and left. Over this past summer, I received a bill for the visits and completed multiple phone calls between the urgent care office, their billing site, and my insurance company. At the end of it all, I was told I did not need to pay as COVID tests in NJ are free and I never saw a doctor which then makes it a non-office visit. Fast forward to today when I received another bill stating they have sent my claim to collections. When I called this morning, I spoke with two people, one being a manager and was told that at their urgent care, they require every visit to be an office visit. By the end of the call, the manager told me despite their awful lack of communication and me not seeing a doctor, I still needed to pay the $100. I told them because of this behavior, they are forcing me to come and write this review and they had no issue with that. I am extremely displeased with this location and their lack of preparedness and communication. Don't go here. read more

We stopped at this clinic on our way to the Jersey shore for an emergency x-ray for our nine-year-old daughter. The PA and entire staff were thorough welcoming and professional. While we hope not to need to be back we certainly would encourage anyone in the area to use the clinic. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. I wanted a rapid test, they tell you, the rapid test is not accurate. Okay well then why are you advertising it on your website?? Second, after a battle they give me the rapid test and the PCR so now they can collect 50 dollars from me and another 150.00 from my insurance company, which they tell me doesn't pay for the rapid test. I go home and I call them to find out my results of the rapid, oh have to wait til we are done doing Covid tests. I was furious! Suddenly I get a call from them two minutes later my test is negative but they will not email me my result which is what I need. I have to pick it up myself. If you are not a proponent of the rapid test then you should not be administering it or advertising it at all. It's false advertisement and illegal because once you get people in the door your telling them they don't meet your FACILITIES criteria which has nothing to do with the CDC guidelines! Unbelievable! If you want a rapid test do not go here!! I know many people who have gone to other facilities and didn't have any issues getting the rapid test or grief for that matter! read more
