I had a good first visit with nurse practitioner Lee Ann Rydosz. I came back two months after my physical at another location with the same concern and she was able to reevaluate the situation and come up with another solution in a timely manner. Things you should know: I. PARKING The #1 reason for hypertension in Atlanta, right? Don't worry, everything about the parking garage, here at this location, is clearly labeled. When you pull up, you'll have to get a ticket. Unfortunately, parking here is only free the first 30 minutes (which you're never out of a doctor's office in 30 minutes ~ let's be real). So anticipate paying the fee when you leave. I was there 40 minutes and it costed me $4. Family Practice Center does NOT validate. Make sure you park in the area that says "Parking for build F" so you don't have to walk a distance before your appointment. Make sure to follow the signs to the proper building entryway. II. SERVICE Quick. I got called right on time. It took 10 minutes to take my vitals and for the assistant to write any additional notes. Before I knew it Lee Ann was addressing my needs. Something to note when making an appoint: make sure you call for the RIGHT location. There are several branches for Family Practice Center. I messed up and scheduled in Sandy Springs instead of Alpharetta. Oops. There's a 24 hour cancellation policy. III. QUALITY I noticed a staff member cleaning the waiting room. That's reassuring to see them care for the facility. IV. CAPACITY There were 5 people in the waiting room but still plenty of seating. Everyone was pretty spaced out. read more

While I do like and respect my doctor there. They have major billing issues. They over charge and then don't provide itemized billing. They have double charged me but yet kept sending bills with no explanation. My insurance has denied their bogus charges and I'm not responsible for certain charges, but they give you the run around and refuse to refund money they owe you. read more

I've enjoyed going here for years but recently have been disappointed by their billing practices. Like many patients I enjoy the ease of telemed which enables you to avoid losing time in transit or missing work. For the first time after a telemed appointment I was notified that I would be receiving a $40 late payment fee since I didn't pay for my appointment immediately after I saw the provider. I asked if I missed a notice since I'm very active in my account and tech savvy. They said no they don't have the ability to post the charge same day to your account so unless you call back the practice or answer whenever they randomly call you'll be charged a late fee. This is a poorly designed system that seems intent on charging patients late fees. They only are available during business hours. Obviously if I could make it in during business hours I would have paid in person as I have for the years I've gone. Many people don't answer random calls or give out financial information over the phone. In the year of 2025 they need an online payment mechanism easily available and not charge unsuspecting patients for a system they don't even have in place. read more

I am in ATLANTA GA LOCATION (Not sure why it says CA) I had seen Dr. Grace Koehler for a minor issue: ringing in my ear. I was with her for about 10 minutes, where she looked into my ear and then used an instrument to see how well I could hear a noise. That took about 30 seconds. After that 10-minute visit, and to be told that I was basically fine, I got charged $234. I called the billing department because that number seems absurdly high, and he told me she marked the visit as a "Level 4" visit. A "Level 4 visit" are typically high complexity visits that last around 45 min and the patient is showing severe symptoms. My visit did not fit into those criteria at ALL. For Dr. Grace Koehler to mark my visit as a Level 4 is absolutely unacceptable and I will not go back to her again. read more

I have attended this practice for 2 years. Unfortunately as they grow, their custome service/front desk has rapidly declined. The front desk people are extremely busy and are quite rude when you try to talk to them. Forget a friendly face or greeting. it is now non existent. The doctors are very competent but your support staff makes or breaks your practice. I am seriously considering changing doctors just for this reason. It seems like they can not keep anyone and they are forever confused at the front desk. I brought my daughter in for lab work only and we have now been here an hour and are still waiting. The whole office appears dazed and confused today. My daughter has anxiety when getting bloodwork so one hour of waiting has been agonizing. In addition, they charge $8 per visit over your copay EVERY TIME and you have to pay a minimum of $6 parking every visit also. This doctor and the Family Practice Center only cares about milking the patient in whatever way they can, and charges unreasonable fees for even the most basic checkup. When you call the office for explanation, they will throw random and different answers at you each time. They promised to get back to you, but they never do. They would lie about the reasons for the charge using reasons that can easily be nullified if you ask for documented evidence. To say that I am disappointed, is an understatement. I have been a patient at Family Practice Center for almost 3 years. I have always seen a NP and have loved them, and the office staff until the last 6 - 8 months. The office has grown, there are always new faces and the old faces are gone, the student Nurse Practitioners make you feel incompetent, I can never reach anyone in the actual office when I call and I am always re-routed to another location, I haven't been able to receive return calls, my refills are sent with the wrong refill dates and my medication never lasts until the next refill date, and when someone does follow up, it's always a nurse that is rude and seems bothered that they have to help someone. Initially the NP was able to write my prescriptions and then I was told that by law, they had to be sent electronically now. Once they started being sent electronically, I started having problems. They weren't being sent and when they were, they were sent to the wrong pharmacy, the wrong prescriptions were sent, or they wrong strengths were sent, some with refills, some without. As of recently, I was told in office my medications would be sent and then some weren't. It took more than 6 hours for the medications to be sent and once they were, some were missing. When I contacted the office, I was told that they would be sent but they weren't. I followed up the next day and was told that I would need to go see another doctor (after seeing a specialist prior and getting on a treatment plan that was working, and the office agreeing to treat me regularly.) The main problem I have with this is that NOT ONE PERSON in the office bothered to tell me that, not during my visit or after I followed up and directly spoke to someone. It wasn't until a day later that I was informed that I would need to see another specialist, for treatment of something that they have been treating me for, for over a year, without any problems. Also, getting into a specialist these days, takes months, not weeks, which wasn't taken into consideration by the doctor either. I maintain my regularly scheduled follow ups, as required, and physicals, but that seemed to not matter. I have loved going to this practice but after all of the changes made the last 6 - 8 months, the growth, miscommunication and what feels like no longer mattering as a patient, I will likely start looking for a new PCP. It is so hard to find a quality, caring doctor these days and I thought I finally found one, after my last PCP of 15 years retired. I'm very disappointed in the quality of care that now seems to be the standard of this practice. read more

After I asked Joseph Wheeler why he was charging me for two office visits, a well visit and an additional office visit, for my one well check up that did not include checks/prescriptions outside of a well visit. I paid bc I did not want to argue with him. I was going to speak with my insurance since he is "in network" with them. I was hoping they would handle it. I was then surprised to find out that the doctor then submitted not just the well check up charge and a second office visit charge, but he changed the second office charge to a higher level/more expensive second office visit than they quoted me while I was at the office. He saw me pay my portion of the bill in full as I was leaving. They had told me the second office visit's negotiated charge was $155, but then submitted a different level office visit with a negotiated rate that was $225. I called the billing department and they said that they could see it had been changed, but they could not explain why it was changed. I was told he is the head of the practice, the highest biller and likes to promote what the drug reps bring him. Saddest part is that he was using my prescriptions as a reason to charge me a second visit, yet I had to call them three times and emailed them thru the portal to finally get the second prescription. Needless to say I am informing my insurance company and checking with the insurance commissioner to see if they handle these situations. BTW, his nurse, Dominique, did call me with my lab results this time. She was wonderful during my visit and after when she gave me my results. read more

I did visit one other NP in the practice who failed to tell me the chicken pox vaccine was excluded from my insurance and I received a $350 bill...not happy at all. We get so many residual bills from this office. I'm extremely fortunate to have the best health insurance out of anyone I know, and and this is the ONLY office where I receive residual bills. For example, I just received a bill from a visit three months ago where I was charged for a "depression screening." Dr. Wheeler Sr. spent maybe a minute of Q&A about anxiety, and bam, I get an extra bill in the mail. My actual visit was maybe less than 10 minutes, and I spent much longer in the FULL waiting room that didn't have appropriate social distancing. I don't even want to address his bedside manner, because it ticks me off so much. Aaaaand, you have to pay for parking. Nothing like being made to feel worse after you leave, and then be nickel and dimed. The only reasons why I came here was because it was convenient to my work, and I liked Danna as a provider; unfortunately, my last visit w/ Sr. really convinced me to look elsewhere. I have since found a new PCP who actually gives me the time of day, listens and empathizes with me instead of immediately (and incorrectly) judging me. Oh, and parking is free. read more

Unable to be seen by your in network provider because you have Medicaid as secondary insurance. It's difficult to find good doctors. My PCP, changed to this practice. He' a very good doctor. The Family Practice Center should not discriminate against patients who have Medicaid. And they should consider accepting patients whose seen their doctors from another practices. read more

I was warned about this office, but I didn't listen. This place has patients coming and going like they are on an assembly line. It's a revolving door of patients. I have had 3 bad experiences with this office. To keep this short, my review only includes 2 of the 3 poor service experiences. During my latest experience, I made it clear I was fed up with their practices and poor communication, I never raised my voice, but I used a few choice words. 2nd issue: I was in for a routine physical which is covered 100% by my insurance. My visit with my doctor was good until it was time to check out. After my physical, I proceeded to the check-out area where I was presented with a bill. Without notice, they changed my visit from a physical to an office visit because I asked a question. Initially, they were adamant about me paying approximately $150.00 because I asked a question during my physical. I had to go back and forth with them for several minutes, (too long) before my visit was changed back to a physical. I have hypertension. I didn't need my visit to increase my blood pressure. 3rd issue: Months later I was in for a regular office visit to follow up on my hypertension. Again, my visit with the doctor was good up until it was time to check out. Every visit prior to this visit I would present my HSA card and pay for services. On this visit, I forgot to bring my HSA card, and I informed the lady at checkout that I will call in the next day by COB to pay. I was told that if I didn't pay by 1700 that day, $35.00 would be added to my bill. I honestly thought I misunderstood what she said. I even told the lady, if I had been told that at check-in, I would have rescheduled. She repeated herself and again there goes my blood pressure. I might have considered a $5.00 fee, but I was not going to entertain paying them an additional $35.00. I've never carried a balance, and I've always paid on time (never late). I felt like I was being singled out. After going back and forth with this lady, a young man from billing came out and later said people say they are going to pay and don't. In my mind I thought, people like who? After going back and forth with this young man, he reviewed my payment history and gave me his extension number to call back so I could make the payment. The interaction took entirely too long and the conversation back and forth was stressful. Before leaving, I was able to explain the situation to my doctor and he said there was nothing he can do, it's how they do business. At that moment, I thought this may be why other doctors left this practice. Note: I should have read Yelp reviews before visiting this office. Someone posted a review that all the good staff left this office. Within two minutes of our conversation, my doctor's last words were, he has to go because he has patients waiting, then he went on his way. My doctor changed my meds and asked me to come back on 12/28, but after my experience, I did not want to schedule the appointment. I'd rather pay a few more dollars for a doctor's office visit and get quality medical services than pay this office and get poor service. Before leaving, I told the lady at checkout that I'm never visiting their office again. Now for the icing on the cake. After I was clear I will not be coming back to their office, two days after my visit I received a certified letter stating their office will provide me medical care for 30 days, but after 30 days their office will no longer be able to provide me medical care, signed by Justin Kappel. They could care less about their role in this. Hypertension is a silent killer and after visiting this office, on at least two occasions I left feeling worse than I did going in and this office could care less. This practice is quite simply, amazing. They always get you in and out quickly and is one of the few doctors I have found who practice preventative medicine. I have brought both my children to see Rachael for check ups as it is much easier and faster to get in than their pediatrician. I am writing this review on the day before Thanksgiving and I needed a prescription refilled before the holiday on short notice - they called it in within the hour. I feel like this practice is as close to "concierge medicine" as you will find without having the "concierge medicine" retainer fee. I cannot say enough good about this practice. Thank you Dr. Wheeler, Rachael and Missy for all that you do! I read a few reviews below that were less than glowing but I have been going to this practice for 30 years and have received the absolute best care and follow up from all of the doctors and Physicians assistants! scheduled an appointment more than a week ago. Gave the girl on the phone my insurance information and emailed it to the email address provided. Then I get a phone call from somebody at the office saying they don't have my insurance information so they give me another email address and I email it again in time for my appointment for my insurance to be verified and when I arrive to my appointment, I'm told they still don't have my insurance information and I'm going to have to wait. They don't know how long for my insurance information to be verified because they are in mountain time. Don't recommend going to this practic. read more

This clinic was very informative when it came to what was covered and not covered under my insurance. I knew every out of pocket expense before commitment to any services that were not covered by my insurance. I highly recommend Dr. Barnes as your primary care physician. She is extremely knowledgeable, genuine, and thoughtful. I felt at ease and comfortable when talking to Dr. Barnes knowing she was actively listening and creating an action plan tailored to my medical needs. I wish I could give 0 stars... I had a telemedicine appointment with one of their staff (PA) that lasted around 5 minutes. I explained all that I was experiencing and she sent me to get a Covid test. Unfortunately, it came back positive. In addition to having Covid, I expressed that I thought I also had bronchitis and that I would like to be seen for this in the office and to receive treatment. I was told that they would not treat me in the office due to my positive Covid results, would not prescribe anything because they would not see me, and to go to Urgent Care. WOULD NOT SEE ME IN THE OFFICE. I did go to Urgent Care the next day- I did have bronchitis and did receive treatment from the MAGNIFICENT Dr. Latoya Etheridge. (She cares greatly for patients and takes her time!) I HIGHLY do NOT recommend going to a "Family Practice Center" that refuses to actually take care of you! BTW- Got a great bill of $490 for that 5 minute telemedicine call and covid test! They do not want to take care of patients- THEY WANT YOUR MONEY AND THAT IS ALL! I had an issue with a prescription and Matthew was patient, thoughtful and empahtetic to my situation and listened to my concerns. He took great notes and then promised me he would investigate the best course of action to take and give me a call back....and to my delight, he got back with me in a very short timeframe. He had exactly the information I needed to schedule my next meeting and offered to have me come in for an office visit or I could also do a tele-health call - which is the option I chose and I can get this done today...the same day! First the good: The appointment staff people are friendly, and when I have an urgent issue, I have been able to get in the same day or the next day at the latest. The nurses are wonderful and really, really supportive. The P.A.s that I've seen, Greg and Rachel are really caring and take time to make sure I know what is going on with my situation. Lab techs get me in and out quickly and blood draws are fairly painless (sometimes pain free!), just wish there was a chair outside the lab for the rare times I had to wait to get in. Now the bad: I see Dr. James Wheeler as my primary physician and if things are on schedule, he is great and answers my questions. But the days things are running behind I feel like I'm a burden to him because I can't speed talk or somehow guess what information he wants before he even asks, and heaven forbid I have a question for him. I have several chronic conditions, so on my visits I do have things I need to discuss. Even when I have told the nurse as part of the check-in, my issues aren't always addressed unless I forcefully stop Dr. Wheeler from walking away from me. I wish I could somehow know when the schedule was going to be running smoothly so I could plan my appointments accordingly. read more

Really disappointed with my experience here. If you're a person whose time is valuable, and would like to be treated with respect and consideration. You may need to reconsider coming to this office. While the doctors are good their customer service in their front office is very lacking. I came to family practice Center to get established with a doctor. My initial appointment with Dr. Wheeler and his team was quite good. He was great; really listened to my concerns and the nurses I encountered were exceptional. They patiently dealt with my needle phobia. I was made to wait a very long time for an ultrasound that I ended up having to reschedule because I could not be away from work any longer. but that was fine because the ultrasound was unexpected Again, I took time off work to make this appointment. My appointment was at 2:15 and at 2:50 my blood was near boiling. No one came out into the reception area to apologize for the wait or to tell me that they were running behind. Only after I approached the desk and asked about my appt, did anyone even seem to realize. Then they only made me wait about 10 minutes more before I was taken back. This time the nurse definitely left something to be desired. Didn't look me in the eyes, was very curt and clearly not interested in my well-being or the anxiety that this appointment was causing. Did I do something wrong?! After my rude nurse, Amanda, The physicians assistant, came in and gave me the most thorough physical I've ever received. She was patient, kind, concerned, asked thoughtful questions and really made me feel like she was not going to miss anything. Then the waiting for my pre-scheduled ultrasound happened again... Are you kidding me!? I had another appointment that I could not be late for so I got up and went to the checkout. The lady at the front was very busy and on the phone so the girl from another workstation nearby came over, ignored me and checked out the girl who was standing behind me. Probably an innocent mistake, assuming I had already been helped, nonetheless it was the last straw. I left. I called, as I ran to my car, to pay my bill and the lady who answered the phone was so rude to me. She told me it wasn't her fault that I was l made to wait because she didn't check me in. OK... not really the point in my mind but whatever. So she transferred me to the girl who's fault she felt it was. Wow what customer service! At this point, I could see nobody cared about my time. And I still had not gotten my flipping ultrasound! I was frustrated and said that I would just call back if and when I would like to reschedule my ultrasound to which the girl said, "OK" and hung up the phone. read more

Sounds weird but visiting Dr. James Wheeler is always pleasant. He is an excellent family doctor; most of his crew are nice and professional though some are not as good as him. The reason I highly recommend this place, to young professionals especially, is that Dr, Wheeler himself is great role model. Every time I see him, briefly though, I'm amazed at his approach to build rapport with patients and give clear directions to his staff. Excellent organizational and communication skills, besides his expertise in family care. He would be a great businessman (well, he already is). I understand this is a business, but every visit I felt like they were trying to push me into a medicine, procedure, or examination that they could profit from. I should have listened to these other reviews I had my annual wellness exam a few months ago with Dr. Tyler Wheeler. The exam itself went well with Dr. Wheeler's nurse assistant calling to go over my lab work. The reason for the one star is because I KEEP GETTING BILLS. Seriously, this business needs to FIRE whoever works in accounting and finance and start over. I specifically asked for an itemized estimate of what I'd be paying for before my work up. I was going to get it done either way but I wanted to be aware. The nurse went to crunch numbers and came back with what I thought would be all I'd be responsible for. Once my appointment was complete, I checked out with the cashier and thought that'd be the end of it. A month later, I receive a bill in the mail for additional charges. Seemed strange so I called the billing department. The person on the other end told me this was just what was left over from what my insurance didn't cover. I asked her to send over a detailed report and she did. Everything checked out so I promptly paid the remainder. Fast forward to today, I received ANOTHER bill with additional charges that weren't on the first one. This company is out for your money and it sucks because I like Dr. Wheeler as a PCP but the discrepancies within this finance department is disgusting. The incompetency alone is enough to make me sad for their business. And this is an in-network doctor FYI. read more

Update: Still no prior authorization done. Front desk girl on phone today says "health care has changed in the last few years." No apology, just more excuses. They say they just received the prior authorization yesterday, call the pharmacy and they said the request was sent (with proof) 4 days ago. This is laughable at this point. Not once was there any empathy or sorry. This review is for the office and practice in General, not the individual doctors. 1. I was charged out of my deductible for my first visit, as a new patient. I have never had a family practice charge my deductible for new patient visit, as opposed to billing my insurance, which has amazing coverage. They do have the right to charge me out of my deductible, but first office I have had do so. 2. I have been waiting days for them to send a prior authorization for my prescription, and am constantly given the run around. I was hesitant to leave my prior family practice, Ponce Primary Care (amazing group) but did so because of convenience of location. When I have needed prior authorization in the past at Ponce Primary Care, it would literally get done within 15 minutes. It has been 3 days now with this practice and never given any assurance or an apology, just that they have it sitting there, and not sure when it will be done. In my opinion this office is a revolving door for money and really lacking in the charm of individual care that you would receive from a smaller practice. I understand they are busy, so if that is what you want in a family practice by all means take a shot, but I really recommend trying another place instead. Luckily my meds are not life and death. I have been seeing Dr Wheeler for the last 11 years. As the other reviews mentioned, the place just changed to worse, they are trying to take your money in every way they can. I have been prescribed a medicine to control my high blood pressure about 2 years ago by Dr Wheeler. Today, I had my annual well check up and they made me to sign a new form that informs the check up only covers for whatever my plan pays, but if I need a new prescription or refill my current medicine I have to pay separately. This is the first time in my life that I've seen a doctor charging half of the visit US$ 62,50 to refill a prescription during a well check up....Oh yes, it's only for 6 months refill and I if need more, a phone call won't do it, I have to pay for a visit. Today was my last visit. I'm very disappointed. read more

I would no longer recommend this practice. This was my primary healthcare physician for 10+ years. Shining star Physicians Assistant Greg has retired. The only nice person left there is a nurse named Dominique. My wife saw them several times during the last 5 years and there was always a problem with either a rude staff member or sub par care. Billing usually always took more money than they should have and I would have to get a check cut for my credit. Last straw for me was during Covid in 2020, as the world was shut down, I was one minute late after the 15 minute grace period for my appointment, in the lobby, and they wouldn't see me. No doubt it was partly my fault but how many times did I wait 30+ minutes to see a doctor after my appointment time? Numerous. So instead of helping me right there for several things I was coming in for, they only caused my blood pressure to rise and guess what, there was no courtesy refill on blood pressure medicine that had ran out for the inconvenience... remember I'm now in the lobby. All I wanted was another 30 days until I could come back. Well Dr. Wheeler said no. I asked for either him or the office manager to call me to discuss and they did not get in touch with me. I decided that since the head of the practice had no compassion for the situation, there was no possible way to capable of providing me and my family care. It's very unfortunate that the relationship ended as such, but it's about caring for individuals, not being just a number. read more

So I honestly can say that FPC is great place. Like in a lot of things, I can sit here and pick at things that are bothersome or inconvenient, but the end result of being alive and healthy outweighs those things. People have good days people have bad days, but it doesn't take away from the quality service overall that's provided by FPC. Dr T Wheeler, PA H Kieth, and all the nurses are phenomenal. Especially Mathew R. at the front has been helpful during this pandemic. I was in need of prescription but it required a review from the doctor, he was very instrumental in getting me set up immediately with a tele doc and followed up as well about my prescription refill so I can continue my medication.
