A huge selection of name brand items! We happened to be here during a sale so got so many high quality products, including some Columbia products, for super cheap! There are three floors, with the basement being the biggest "bargain" floor. They have clothes and shoes. I highly recommend stopping in here if you are in the area. read more

BEST IN CLASS -- WAY BETTER THAN SHOPPING ONLINE For outdoor and casual clothing -- especially cold weather outdoor clothing -- you cannot beat this place! The store is large, abundantly stocked, and somewhere between neat and immaculate. Comfortably laid out, and easy to touch and try on merchandise, especially boots and shoes without having to have a clerk running back and forth to the back room (this is very important). The prices are generally excellent to exceptional, and lots of high-quality brands. I've occasionally seen retail prices this good (ok, rarely), but never in this combination of large, neat, comfortable store, exceptional prices, and helpful staff. Kind of like REI for apparel, with plenty of overlap, but leans a bit more towards work clothing than hiking/mountaineering/leisure. I can't think of a store of this kind in the entire state that is this good. Worth the drive from far away, especially as the cold weather season approaches. My hiking boots blew out while on vacation in the Finger Lakes. The next day we were driving to Watkins Glen State Park and saw their billboard off the highway. I picked up a great pair of comfortable boots there with the assistance of a very helpful salesperson. My husband found a great deal on shoes too. There's a great selection. Large selection of comfortable and practical clothing. I stopped in for a sweatshirt and left with that and some long underwear that was exactly what I have been looking for. This place has a huge section of all different kinds of footwear, from hunting/work boots down to slippers and everything in between. They also stock apparel and lots of other outdoor related odds and ends. I thought the prices were really fair, the staff was friendly and the store was neat and not over cluttered. Famous Brands begun to restore my faith in the small town sporting goods store. The only thing Watkins Glen needs is a credible sasquatch sighting to cause bus loads of weirdos to spill in looking for socks and squatch, and this store's stock will shoot through the roof. Come think of it, a not-so-credible Bigfoot sighting would do the trick just the same. read more

We shopped here because the storefront showed lots of our favorite footwear brands, so we headed right to the shoe side of the store. I was looking for something easier to tie since my aging hips are making that hard, but I did not want Velcro. Sarah helped me find some stretch-tying sneakers and showed me how to replace my regular laces with some stretchy ones. She also helped me find bedroom slippers in the right size, and Bella at check-out did me a huge favor by asking if I had actually tried them on. Nice save! Sarah found the correct ones for me. Yankee candles (?!?!) My husband and I make the trip here from Ithaca quite frequently. (It's actually one of the few retail establishments he likes!) It's a busy place and they've expanded a bit over the years which is impressive given the questionable economy. Their prices and selection are great. I purchased a pair of $120 water-proof Merrill shoes at Famous Brands. The shoe soles delaminated within 2 weeks. I took the shoes back. The store said they would replace them, which they did but it took 3 months. The replacement pair delaminated as well - in the same manner as the first pair. When I took the shoes in for a refund the shoe sales staff accused me of wearing the shoes through pools of chemicals! This is the last time I buy from this store. I had a similar experience last year. The worst part is that the sales people, who are all women, are very helpful when a man makes a return but if you are female look out! Awesome variety. The only downside is the employee with Blonde hair who ALWAYS COMPLAINS ABOUT THE PATRONS. Every time I go she is miserable. The store has a lot to offer and when stocking new seasonal attire you always seem to be in HER way. She's the first person I look for when I go into the store.
