The Theatre Costume Shop has been around for a long time. It has stood strong against other costume…read morestores in Adelaide as they really offer more quality and unique options. When I need a costume, I go here. I know that I will find everything I need here, from makeup, wigs, props to SFX. When you have a look through the costumes for hire you will notice that majority of them are a lot higher quality than other stores. I think that is because most of them are hand made and not cheap versions imported. They are more of a quality for theatre as the name of the store suggests. They do of course offer costumes that you can buy to keep which are made in china and will probably last a couple of wears. What I prefer is the costumes for hrie that have a little more attention to detail. If you are like me, and you love SFX, you will find all you need here from liquid latex, synwax, sealer, gels, theatre grade blood and crazy contact lenses. The prices vary upon quality of product. But I think they are quite decent. If you are in need of a wig, there are a lot to choose to hire or buy. The ones for hire are really high quality and look amazing! The last thing to mention is that the staff here are just so awesome and pumped about life. They are always dressed up when you visit the store. What a fun job! They are really knowledgeable when it comes to SFX, stage makeup & paints. If you have a theme or idea in mind for your costume, you can call ahead to see if they stock what you are after. Great customer services!

This would be easily the best destination for you if you are looking for face paint, body paint,…read moremake up for theatre or film and all the bits and bobs you need to create a character for clowning or a show - including a drag act or magic show. It is certainly the most comprehensive business in the city for that sort of thing. Additional to that they have a wide range of costumes available for hire at pretty reasonable rates - that is after all, their main stream of business, costume hire. You can get all the favourites from Easter Bunny to Santa as well as your Harry Potter outfits or even soldiers of a variety of styles, old school first world war and even some second world war types. I was once in a position where I had to wear a Nazi uniform on stage and the costume was hired here. The staff are usually really helpful and they have all the patience in the world. They will help you make decisions, but it is usually best if you have an idea of what you want when you go in so you are not spending too much time trying to figure it out on your feet and on their time. If you stand in the store and just look you will be there all day unless you have an idea of what you want - and most of the time they will have something pretty close if not the exact thing.

The whole shop inside was full of ideas, colour schemes, patterns, designs and decorations I hadn't even seen before. They had a great range of all the standard party supplies plus and were only too happy to help. They even gave my daughter a free helium balloon which was great...until every time we drive past it she asks if we can go get another balloon. They're definitely worth looking into when you want decos!

Here goes: Balloons, party streamers, party plates, bowls, cups, etc everything for a parties.. themed or not. They also hire equipment such as speakers, microphones, lighting, heilium cylinders, urns, outdoor heaters, bain maries and clown...oops I mean 'crowd' control. They have been selling bread mix before it became fashionable to bake bread at home and there is a large variety available for the bread machine. In a nutshell, they sell everhything you'll need for a party or to make a perfect loaf of bread, scones, donuts, etc. And Peter, please change that tired outfit or go join the circus and scare the animals.

I have to get this off my chest - although it is probably a little too late for Mask Q Rades to do…read moreanything about it. What is up with the name of this place? "Mask Q Rades". Awful. One of the worst business names I've ever heard. Ok, so that was a bit petty. Moving on. This big costume store on Port Road is just fine. If I were putting on a play, performing at a fair or going to an especially pushy friend's dress-up party, I'd stop by here. Their halloween options are pretty damn good - October was the last time I popped in, although I have to admit I am a bit more of a make-your-own-costume type, so I was browsing for ideas really. The prices weren't ridiculous, they even seemed a bit cheaper than the costume store behind the Central Markets in town - perhaps the rent is less out here. Most of the costumes seemed in relatively good condition too, which is a big factor when sealing the deal on a hire.

Adelaide, I have to ask you this question: Why the fuck do you have so many costume shops?…read more Seriously, every time I get in my car and drive five minutes, I pass about thirty of the bloody places. Is the market for costumes really that big? The second question is why there are so many "adult" stores in Adelaide, and I get the feeling that the two phenomena are related, which makes me wonder why there aren't more dry cleaning stores. I have been in here, once. Like Chloe, I think the name is spectacularly awful. But the stuff they've got inside is pretty cool and well worth a look. The rental prices are pretty low, too. I don't know what Adelaide prices are like when it comes to costumes, but this place is certainly lower than every place in Melbourne that I've checked (which is about two, but still..). The people are pretty nice and helpful when you're looking or even just brainstorming some ideas.

Lesley and Michael Visintin run The Stage Shop in Leigh Street. Although it's called The Stage Shop…read moreit really caters mostly for dancers; and young dancers doing jazz or ballet class, so even though they do have a great range of things, they are not so much about acting as they are about dancing. This is important because there are other places in town actors should go if they are looking for materials such as makeup, fake blood etc. Not having said tat, I do not mean to undermine the value of The Stage Shop because they have all the ballet shoes, jazz shoes, unitard, headbands, dare I say legwarmers and other things like hair nest, the substance of a hair bun... I'm not sure what you call those things that help make a perfect hair bun but it's like a donut made of a spongy type of material and it works every time. They certainly are helpful, and they can tell you some great stories and name just about every great ballet class or school around the city and metropolitan region, so if you have a youngster looking to extend their strength and abilities by taking a dance class, or indeed if you have a dancer in the family, this is a shop where you will find pretty much everything they would want or need when it comes to dance.
