Eloping overseas added an extra layer of paperwork complications and planning, so we set about finding someone local who could do the official stuff more to our style. We came across Melissa Jacob while looking for Melbourne elopement options (there aren't many it seems!) and liked her no-fuss offering. Upon meeting her, we knew that we had definitely picked the right person. She's approachable, easy going and really understood that just because we want low-key doesn't mean we don't care. She even offered to wear an Elvis costume for us. Melissa does weddings and ceremonies of all styles, but didn't make us feel awkward about wanting the bare legal minimum over a glass of bubbles at our favourite bar (yes this is how we wed, with a photographer and bar owner as witnesses). I want to high five the people she married recently who did it in their PJs eating toasties on the couch. She gave us a bunch of options and time offerings, right down to the 1-2 minute "you legally have to say this stuff" option. On the day, Melissa was bright and bubbly and had fun with us to create the simple ceremony proceedings we were after. She has a really great attitude towards helping people do things their way (even with living wakes which I hadn't heard of before meeting her but she makes it sound fun!) and while I hope not to need her services again any time soon - wouldn't hesitate to recommend her!

We had discovered Global Gossip whilst we were there…read more We tracked down this shop pretty quickly to: a) let all our friends and family know we had arrived b) convert our Global Gossip card to work in Australian Dollars from New Zealand dollars c) find out about mobile/cell phone options. This store was extremely helpful. They converted hubby's card and we got a second card for me. They also provided us with a sim card which at the time was on Vodafone (I have no idea one year on whether they are still provided by Vodafone). There are a number of internet terminals available. Additionally there are points where you can plug in your own netbook/laptop. Long opening hours. Close to many shops, restaurants and attractions. Superb. If you need a way to communicate with friends and family who are overseas I would definitely suggest checking out Global Gossip!

Review: Serious concerns about transparency and "open box" practices - proceed with caution…read more I am posting this review so other consumers can make an informed decision before purchasing from Centre Com. I attended the Centre Com Nunawading store intending to purchase a new laptop. I was advised by staff that it would be quicker to order the same model online rather than wait in store, so I followed that advice. At the time of purchase, the laptop was presented as a normal product listing. It did not state that it was "open box" or second-hand. After the purchase was completed, the situation changed. My receipt later showed the item as "open box", and the product link was removed entirely rather than remaining live as "sold out" or "no longer available", which is the usual retail practice. That alone raised serious concerns about transparency. When the laptop arrived, it was clearly not new. The internal seal was broken, protective packaging was missing, and there were visible scratches on both the casing and the screen. This is not consistent with what most consumers would reasonably understand as a simple "open box" item. A scratched display indicates prior use or handling beyond inspection. I contacted Centre Com immediately with photos and requested an exchange. Instead of addressing the condition of the product, I was repeatedly told that scratches and visible damage were "consistent with open box". This position was maintained despite the fact that "open box" was not clearly disclosed at the time of purchase. By the time a refund was eventually offered, sales events had ended, leaving me financially worse off. The handling of the matter, the shifting description of the product after purchase, and the refusal to provide a like-for-like replacement have left me with serious concerns about Centre Com's practices. I am now pursuing the matter through formal consumer channels. Advice to other buyers: Do not assume products are new unless it is explicitly stated at checkout. Be cautious with any listing that later changes description or disappears. Get written confirmation of condition before purchasing, or consider alternative retailers. This review reflects my personal experience and is shared to help others avoid a similar situation.

As he found the appropriate charger, we chatted a little about how he always seemed to have runs on water damage or physical damage or the like, and how it seemed to be the season for chargers. And when he told me Apple's asking price, he was kind enough to not laugh maniacally, even managing to seem sympathetic while towing the party line. Given that Apple set the prices, I'd much rather have a quiet chat with this likable gent than line up to be served by one of Apple's Genius Hipsters.
