We shared the pork egg rolls (3 in the order) for an app which were crispy, light and delicious. Then we shared chicken pad Thai which was very tasty and just right for a light lunch for 2. While not authentic Thai flavor food, it was quite delicious! Why I go for Asian food first before local cuisines is besides me, but it sounded so good that night. The restaurant itself is located in a hip neighborhood with many other restaurants nearby, with minimal car traffic (Not sure where you park). The interior is not the largest, but it does offer a peace and tranquility with a fair amount of seating. The staff that greeted and served us during the meal was quite friendly and quick in terms of help and serving food. The menu itself is English friendly along with a few other languages, which is a plus! While I was not starving, I did not opt for any appetizers sadly, but they looked delicious. We ended up getting a large bowl of Tom Yum and Pad Thai. The restaurant was not too busy as it just had opened, but the food came out within 20 or so minutes, so I figured it would not be too bad (Quick food out of the kitchen worries me, not gonna lie). As mentioned initially, the flavors were unique, not what I was used to in regards to the Tom Yum, but that does not take away from the flavor at all as it was quite good. Serving size was quite large, enough to make me feel better about not ordering an appetizer. As for the Pad Thai, my travel partner mentioned it hit the spot and again they gave her a TON of it. The food was fine, but service left a lot to be desired. We had the panang curry and the cashew chicken. The curry was very good, plenty of sauce and flavour to the sauce. The cashew chicken was good as well. Less complex I suppose but I liked the chicken, little sauce, and plenty of cashews. But service left a lot to be desired. It was busy but we still sat almost immediately. But nobody came to take our order. We had to waive down a server from the table next to us. He then basically refused to take our beer orders and insisted we get a more local beer (which was pricier). Looking for vegetarian food in Brussels isn't the easiest near the city center/Grand Place. There are some but it would be quite a walk and we didn't want to walk all too far but Fanny Thai came up. Although I would rather eat local food, I also read it was easier to go for international fare for vegetarian options and my French and Dutch are nowhere good enough to explain our dietary restrictions (vegetarian, no onion/garlic/leeks/chives). They even had a sticker outside that showed they were vegetarian-friendly. We know this because I was hungry around 4 PM and was walking around to find out that the place didn't open for dinner - like many other places in the area - until 6 PM. When closed, all the stickers are visible. We returned again when they opened and the area looked completely different. The glass walls were folded back and the restaurant was wide open (literally) for business. It was packed and it was a Tuesday night. We walked in and the owner [?] (a young man who I later heard speaking Vietnamese to another staff member) pointed us to a small table outside that was still free. We were given menus 5 minutes later. They were constantly running around (I spotted 2, maybe 3) people running all the tables - it was crazy. We finally got our orders taken about 10 to 15 minutes or so later. They have a full page dedicated to vegetarian options that they offered; I was impressed. Even so, with our diet, we couldn't just randomly close our eyes and choose. The first guy seemed to be the only one who spoke a decent amount of English so we ordered from him. There was another guy but he got a deer-in-headlights look when I asked him a question that he normally never got. It took an additional 5 minutes or so to get the first guy and another 5 after he consulted with the kitchen to get back to us. We ended up getting a vegetable stir fry with cashews (no onions/garlic) and their pad thai (no onions/leeks/garlic). We got our food in a somewhat reasonable amount of time. It came with a bowl of rice. Everything was good but we found some caramelized onions in the pad thai that we picked out. The tiny bits of what could have been minced garlic turned out to be finely chopped bits of peanut. I assume the onions were in the sauce to begin with. Everything was good, but not amazing. However, I was happy I was eating something savory. Their decor, silverware, etc., was nice. It seems as if the eating culture here is fairly laid back. People take their time to eat. Good thing we weren't in a hurry. The staff was as helpful as they could be despite how busy they were and I thank them for that. Food was decent and the "perfect" amount. After walking around for an hour after, I started feeling a little hungry, but that was fine. One shouldn't overeat, anyway. I tried not to open my mouth too much due to the onion contamination. Even though we really didn't eat them, we're still really sensitive to it and it doesn't have the best odor. My husband had a little bit of an upset stomach due to it (he's even more sensitive than I). All in all, a good selection for vegans/vegetarians as a whole! If you don't/can't eat onions/garlic, be careful. They also serve meat dishes (obviously). I think we were the only vegetarians dining there at the time. Their curries also looked delicious but from my experience, they're almost always off limits, even if they're vegetarian, so I didn't even try to ask about them. read more

Came here as party of 5 and we sat in the back. I shared the "Fanny" tasting menu with another diner. The other choices were vegetarian red curry, green shrimp curry, and fried rice with vegetables. For drinks we got ginger tea, 1 liter water and half-liter house white wine. The wine was decent but hated the ginger tea - it was super mild and tasted like dishwater. So for the review of the Fanny tasting menu: the soup came super quick, great sweet -sour taste that was marred by how tough the chicken was. My co-diner found it too spicy for her taste. Review for the 4 entrees: 1) chicken with peanut butter - this was nice but the peanut butter could have been a bit more thicker. 2) fish cakes - spongy garden variety, not impressed 3) shrimp basket - excellent and best of the lot, with peas and crispy well done savoury pastry 4) spring rolls - again, garden variety, indistinguishable from any other restaurant Review for the 5 main dishes 1) Chicken with Thai Basil - meh, too salty, chicken tasted bleached 2) Duck with 5 flavours- was really looking forward to this, but the star anise flavour was super overwhelming. Duck was tender but that flavour of star anise was just too much 3) Shrimp w/3 flavours - all I could taste was uncooked raw tomato paste. Also too salty. 4) Fried Vegetables - the best of the lot. Only dish I would consider ordering if had to go back. 5) Beef with coconut and curry - liked the robust curry coconut flavour of the sauce which I did try. I don't eat beef but my dining companion did and said her meat was super tender, almost Korean cut. Overall verdict? I would not go eat here again, it wasn't overall great dining experience. We had the pleasure of spending Sunday in Brussels. In the mood for Thai food, we explored the area and found this street laden with Thai/Vietnamese places. Now I'm always weary when it comes to combo cuisine. Thai AND Vietnamese? Well, we pcked Fanny Thai. The place next door seemed too gay ghetto and I didn't like the look of some of the other menus. We were very impressed. The decor was somewhat modern but not glitzy and obnoxious. The service was done by very sweet Vietnamese gentlemen. Jack wanted a Tom Kha Gai I had Cha Gio. His soup was superb, not cloying like some. My rolls were just a little underdone but the flavor was exquisite. We then had Larb Gai, Nam Tok, and the Gai graprao. Great decor but a small place. The lab khai is pretty good. Well seasoned and had a few chopped red hot peppers for more flavor. The Penang chicken was good, but maybe needed a bit more chicken. Also, Penang sauce was thicker and more peanutty. The presentation was great. read more

When we were seated we were told we could not put our water bottle on the table and that we had to leave it on the floor for the entirety of our meal which was very odd. Food is good, & tasty. I would consider this "Thai style food". Not authentic flavor Thai food. Still good tho and has a Vietnamese influence. Ingredients are mixed inaccurately for some dishes but they got the right idea. Example: Pad See Ewe has lime leaf inside, not really correct but is a modified version if the dish thats still tasty, but shouldnt call it Pad See Ewe really. Pad Thai was correct and very good. Yah Moon Sen salad was ok, but too many herbs added. Another modified version of original recipe. Overall good taste and good service. Surprisingly disappointing for a place that was teeming with locals in a tourist zone. Mediocre food but worse poor service with a ton of attitude. Waited forever to place my order (and given a couple seated next to me left after waiting a while, I guess my patience quota was on a high that afternoon), the food came out a bit too quickly for my liking - probably was languishing back in the kitchen...a rather lukewarm, flavorless vegetarian dish came with more sticky rice than necessary and when I requested a box to go for that excess rice - literally, I had to endure raised eyebrows from the guy serving the table - seriously?! I called and made a reservation for 9pm and the person on the phone confirmed that I had a reservation for 9. Then we arrived at the restaurant and the man said that we had arrived 30 minutes late. He had mistakenly written down 8:30, but refused to admit that he was wrong and instead blamed the mistake on us (it wasn't our fault, I confirmed the time over the phone and had him say it back to me). He said they were too busy and couldn't seat us for another 30 minutes, and didn't offer any sort of apology. He was very rude and we will not be coming back. read more

After having a terrible night searching for food in Bruxelles, my friends and I came upon this restaurant. The only reason it has 4 stars and not 5 is because we did have to wait a while to be seated, but while we waited the host was incredible! I had the shrimp fried rice and it was great. I went around 3-4pm so the place was empty and the service was great. The food did come out very quickly suggesting it was just heated up but still so good. Right in the middle of the nightlife- this Thai spot was soooo delicious. Had the tilapia with chili sauce and shrimp pad Thai. We sat outside and it was so lively we had a drink nearby at an Irish pub. So far the service was good here but it can be because i am thai as well. It feels like something between traditional and fusion. We tried two curry dishes. One with coconut cream was below average, but i really liked the red curry and citronelli. Service was ok in attitude but quite slow. Portions were really shy. I used to feel stuffed after thai nights, Fanny is on the light side. If you are really hungry, you'll need at least two dishes. I like this place, and the food, and the people serving it. It's one of the best known Thai places in Brussels- not located in the tourist center but close by the Grand Place. It gets crowded, especially during weekends so I would suggest either coming early (or late, because the restaurant is open after most shows end at AB), or reserve a table up front. The interior may look non-authentic, bit modern, but the cuttlery does welcome you in a Thai (and slightly kitschy) way! Allow me to preface this review by saying, this is my first time in Belgium, and Europe altogether. I can't get over the lack of A/C units/central cooling system here. It's the middle of summer and although it's not an absolute scorcher, it does get hot. Anyway, onto the food. Came her with my girlfriend and we shared a soup to start, forgot what it was called but damn was it great. I don't normally find soups delicious, in my experience they are often bland liken to warm water with seasoning, but not this bowl of soup. People often say a dish is a symphony of flavors and this one hit all the notes. Our entrée was basil chicken and chicken red curry, panang I believe they call it. And WOW WOW WOW, those dishes sangggg. Everything tasted clean, the flavors were balanced, and for once the vegetables are used properly. Oftentimes, veggies become an afterthought, almost like garnishes, that you're forced to eat around. But the vegetables they used served a purpose, you know how ingredients are used. Overall, the food was superb. We just wish, tap water was served free, our server just kept bringing bottled water and so that added up quick. As a cultural note, everyone here moves at their own pace. Our server was slow and even forgot our order at one point. Evidently, people only tip for great service so it felt weird not leaving anything, unlike the obligatory 15% in America that we're accustomed to. That is all, eat your heart out. read more

In a street packed with Thai restaurants, it is always hard to choose which one to try so I consulted Yelp and went for Fanny Thai after reading the many good reviews. I LOVE Thai so I was very excited when we headed there. Unfortunately, I was not as convinced as other reviewers. The food was decent and we left having eaten a good amount. But that was all. It was nothing special at all. I had the chicken red curry and my friend the tofu red curry. We both liked them fine, but I found that there was not a lot of chicken in my curry actually. We also got one bowl of rice to share, and had to ask for a refill (we were two girls who are not particularly big eaters but we needed more, so I imagine the amount of rice would be very little for a guy, for example). They then charged us for the second bowl of rice. They also brought out the food we ordered in less than 2 minutes, which leads me to think that it was either re-heated or had been sitting there for a bit (definitely not made to order). Given that there are so many Thai restaurants in that street, I would not go back, but try a another the next time. read more
