We chose the Suckling Pig, a Burratta, and Polpettte(meatballs). A small complimentary appetizer arrived. A nice piece of I believe to be ricotta with a bit of pesto on top and a wonderful slice of a salami which was the special of the month. I believe they referred to it as Easter salami. A great way to start. Our bread arrived and we could have been happy with just bread. Had to make ourselves stop eating before the food started arriving. The food started arriving: - Suckling Pig arrived and I was a bit taken back as it was served cold. But it worked. It was served on crunchy bread and topped with pickled vegetables and a dab of mustard. I could have had a larger plate and it be my meal it was so good. - La Burrata Pugliese con Pomodorini was a large burrata cheese with fresh black pepper. I was garnished with semi-dried cherry tomatoes and fried sage. Perfect. - Polpette came last. Three beautiful meatballs made with a mixture of veal, beef and pork and served in a tomato sauce with equal amounts of polenta. Knew we would love this dish as we always get it when we visit and will continue with our ritual. Complimentary little dessert arrived which was a biscotti with a chocolate dipping sauce. A very nice gesture. Service was outstanding. The small restaurant has seats in every nook and corner which just makes it homey. Highly recommend that you book in advance. This place is popular for a good reason.

OH MY GOD. This was…read morethe last new restaurant we tried on our trip to Rome before packing day. The earth moved. The angels sang. * * * Le Sicilianedde is, not surprisingly, a Sicilian restaurant in the wealthy neighborhood of Parioii. in general, Parioli residents eat very well. A Sicilian restaurant means not only Sicilian appetizers and main courses, but Sicilian ices and gelatos for dessert. Seafood rules in Sicilian cuisine - but there are perfectly wonderful dishes for landlubbers as well. Do you see the possibilities? * * * Every single solitary dish that both I had and my wife had was off the charts good. We both had sea-based pasta dishes for first courses. Both starters were items we have never seen before in our run of non-Sicilian restaurants. I did a spaghetti with clams and fish roe. Fish roe means salty as hell. Vast amounts of butter and a suave white wine in the sauce kept the proceedings salty and smooth as opposed to salty and grab-your-water-glass. I love Portuguese cuisine which is frequently about being salty and smooth. My pasta made the Portuguese look like amateurs. * * * My wife had spaghetti in a tuna ragu. Tuna as the meat in a super tomato-y long-simmering red sauce? Hamburger can go take a walk. * * * The main course was swordfish chunks grilled on a skewer with thick lemon slices between them. The grilled swordfish was grilled swordfish. Lovely fish but that's nice dear. The Sicilians were Sicilian lemons. Sicilian lemons are outstanding any way you get them. And that includes grilled. The swordfish was there to make sure you got a healthy dinner. The lemon slices were your Sicilian lover whose hands were doing wonderful things to you under the table. We were very very very very happy. * * * They had non gelato non Sicilian ice desserts And a large assortment of those to boot. But there was no way we were going to turn down Sicilian gelato and Sicilian ice. I went on the gelato side with ricotta fig for one scoop and zabaglione for the other scoop. Zabaglione is one of the great flavors on the planet. Any Italian ice cream with ricotta and some flavor is extraordinary. I was in love. My wife went with the ices - in her case one scoop of mulberry and one scoop of pistachio. Which was better, the gelato or the ices? Both * * * Sadly, we had to start preparing for our exit from Rome. We didn't throw a coin in the Fountain of Trevi, But a meal like this would make anyone want to return. Preferably the next day. * * * Yelpers - if there is a takeaway from all of this - If you are in Rome, you want to eat. You can eat well in the Centro with the famous tourist sights. But you will do much better in the rich people's neighborhoods. Most of our eating was concentrated in Ludovisi - a wealthy neighborhood with the American embassy and the famous chic hotels of Fellini's La Dolce Vita. There were expeditions as well to nearby, wealthy-enough Salario, And less frequent trips to the food havens of Parioli and Testaccio. There were no crowds. Plenty of open tables. And food absolutely positively to die for. Eat where the rich locals eat and you will do very very well. This applies to many cities, not just Rome.
