Absolutely amazing! Staff were EXTREMELY friendly, and approachable! Quite funny too! i was given an amazing cut for a great price!! Completely shady-I bought a few Groupons for keratin treatments because Sylvia and Linda were great. Someone inadvertently scanned two of my Groupons on my last visit. Spoke with manager and sent her the proof as requested, but the owner Nadeem refuses to return my calls to credit me back. He's knowingly keeping the money from Groupon without providing the services. (Oh and he watches all the clients and workers from that camera in the shop)-SO shady. read more

Sam's is fantastic! I walked in without an appointment and didn't wait long to have my hair cut. I don't remember the last time I went to a salon that shampooed my hair first. It's inclusive! I overheard another stylist offer waxing... I love this place! It turned out to be a one stop salon! My eyebrows are no longer embarassing. It cost me $21 for cut and wax. Her tip was over 30%. It's a no brainer when only one person is doing all these things for me. It's been a long time since I walked out of a salon feeling clean, refreshed and thinking money was well spent on service. I don't even have that itchy aftermath from loose hairs left on my clothes or the stinging sensation because she did not burn my eyelids with hot wax. Nope, Mercedes did a fantastic job from start to finish! The franchise has been around for almost 40 years. I always thought this brand had a stigma. I don't know what led me here today but I'm glad I walked in and learned my lesson. It turns out, this is a traditional salon without the cost of the more designer name salons. read more

I took my daughter here for her very first hair cut. I was checked in very quickly and taken back for a hair cut within 5 minutes! Our stylist, Agata, understood that my curly haired toddler needed layers and worked quickly on my squirmy 2 year old. Agata was very good, but seemed a bit nervous (not sure if she was new or just not comfortable with kids). But either way, my little princess looked great. But the real highlight of our trip was the interaction with the manager, Helaine. When she found out it was the girl's first hair cut, she ran in back, grabbed a first hair cut certificate and even a lock of hair to tape to it! She sat the girl back in the stylist chair and even took her picture and emailed it to me!!! Helaine was engaging and wonderful. Even mentioning to me the color special and offering to do me the same day. I want to give a 3 because the hairdresser was nice but she did not know how to do peekaboos. I was there for almost 5 hours and my hair was orange and I almost cried because if it was going to take that long at least the job should've been done right. This was the second time they messed up on my hair but I went back because I wanted to give them another chance. I guess I'll just pay more money to get my hair looking the way it should. I got my two daughters a pre tween and a 9yr old's hair cut and color done here. My girls absolutely loved their hair cut and color they got. It was my girl's first time coloring their hair. The stylists explained the process to the girls and listened to their requirements and made them feel very comfortable. I'm not one to complain but this needs to be said.. So I went to fantastic Sam's for the first time ever today. I walked in and waited a good 2-3 minutes before anyone even greeted me. After I was finally greeted a girl walked over and took my name and number because they had about a 30 minute wait. So I went next door to shop and came back. I had a seat and waited for someone to call me. The same girl who took my name walked over to me and said "you only want a cut, right?" Almost not giving me a chance to say what I wanted. As I sat in her chair I showed her a recent pic of Britney spears and said this is what I want. She said so you just want layers? I said kind of but more of a style like this showing her the pic again. She started cutting and complaining about how long my hair was and how much her back hurt. She must of told me at least 6 times that my hair was too long. Before I even had a chance to tell her I wanted a blow dry and styled she was yelling at her kids, who were at work with her, to put their coats on so they could leave. She hands me a mirror and turns me around so I can see it from the back. It looks absolutely nothing like the pic I showed her and it is super short ( to me it's short. When I walked in my hair was down to my butt now it's in the middle of my back.) I was/am so very upset. It was all I could do to not start crying. I left as soon as I paid and ran to my car to throw my hair in a ponytail. I will never go back there again! read more

Fantastic Sams is a wonderfull salon full of amazing hairstylists that keep busy on my visit. I am a 21 YO guy and I've been going in there for maybe three years now to get a cut. LET ME TELL YOU, I am pretty picky too and I know the girls dread my visits but they never complain and always greet me with friendly conversation! I love Fantastic Sams and all of the stylists here! On my last visit I went from brunette to blonde and Carol did it for me. She did a wonderfull job! It was really cool. I spent about five hours there and actually had a lot of fun. Went here to get a haircut and highlights. Came out with a really bad experience. For something simple like some layers and highlights i would think people would not have trouble with doing that if they have been in the field for some years, was wrong. I asked for a lot of layers and what i get is couple layers and all crooked. Highlights totally wrong color then what i wanted. Will never go back here again. I had my hair re done somewhere else and the hair stylist that did my hair was shocked what was on my head. She asked what I asked for at this salon so i told her, she told me it was not even near what i asked for and that she would be embarrassed to go out with such a thing that i had on my head. Nickeled and dimed for the services. I came here hoping to save a bit of money but it wound up being very nearly the same price as high-end salons. Owner arrived after my service. Employees seemed nervous. She was nice and offered coupons at the on the way out, the "stylist" did no such thing and seemed to want to charge for the oxygen I was breathing. I knew/expected there would be a fee for the blow out, but she also charged extra for the type of brush she used. I've gone to nice Chicago salons downtown and have NEVER been charged extra for the brush type used. That was really weird. I'll stick with the full-service salons in the future. I hope the owner is keeping track of how people are being charged because I think she's losing business because of her employees random charging fees. read more

I usually dont review places other restaurants but I had to make an exception. I just got my hair cut and colored here on a whim, and had a great experience. The stylist was very knowledgeable and got my color exactly the way i wanted. She identified my problem areas without me telling her. She even showed me how to style my hair so i can replicate it tomorrow when I go back to work. The owner came in while I was getting my hair done and was super nice and friendly. I just wanted to say I had a great experience here and think the price is very affordable. The staff was really nice and service was excellent. read more

Horrible place BE AWARE. Last minute before going to Florida decided that I need touch up for my highlights. My stylist was not available so decided to try Fantastic Sam's --WHAT A MISTAKE! Tatyana my "hair stylist" (if you can call her that) bleached my roots whiter then the ends. I couldn't believe it when I saw my hair. I was soo upset and disappointed almost cried....She seemed so nervous and offered to fix it from second try. But how you can fixed over bleach hair ???? So I decided to color it brown...at that point I just wanted to even them out. Guess what even solid brown color turned out awful ....my hair were lighter in some spots and darker in other. Another "stylist" came to help and they were both playing dump and saying that my hair looks ok??? I couldn't believe it. Ask to talk to the manage/owner of the salon but they refuse to contact her/him. They offered to "try' one more time..what?? I understand if I was on some kind of experiment that might be ok , but now Fantastic Sams is open for public, but they not sure what they doing. I was sooo up set that had to leave. They made me pay $65 for my foxy new look... NO sympathy, NO follow up phone call from the manager , NO apologies. My friend and family had a blast making fun of me all night. I happy to say I have found my "forever hair home" with her. Her talent is up to parr with higher end salons. With her you are not sacrificing quality for cost. Wish I could rate the stylist Ana a 5 stars because she deserves that and MORE..but the 3 star rating comes due to the policy of not being able to add the gratuity to my payment via credit card. I never ever carry cash. I felt really bad for Ana because I couldn't leave her the tip she deserves. I am sure many of the stylists there are getting slighted out of a tip due to this policy. I am hoping they increased the hourly wage of the stylists because many of them are going to make LESS money due to this stupid policy. read more

Frustrating!!! I walked in and it took nearly 15min for someone to come check me in. I absolutely agree with the previous reviews saying that the management is ran poorly. My stylist was talking to another client and yelling across the salon which i found very unprofessional. The salon its self wasn't clean, I checked out some of the hair products on the shelves and they were pretty dusty. The prices are sneaky, I mean they would take you in without explaining it to you that you only get a hair cut, but not a blow dry... who does that??..and the blow dry cost me double the price of the hair cut...ridiculous! The prices are not any different than other salons but at least make it worth it. read more

How do I even begin. . I called 2 hours before closing and asked what time they take in the last customer. Lady on the phone said they close at 6 which is the time they and so I decided to go in. I had my hair almost to my waist and asked for it just below my shoulder. When I asked if she can do some layers she responded with "is one layer okay?" I have never been asked this question. Usually it's "low or high" "a lot or a little" but once she said 1 layer I did freak out. When she was done she took the two pieces in the front of my face to make sure they were even and to her surprise they were not. By time she was done it was 6 pm and asked if I wanted to blow dry. I did not want to hold her up much longer so I told it it was okay and when off about my day. That was my mistake especially it being my first time here in years. When I blow dryed my hair at home I noticed it uneven and it looked like it was chopped off with a knife. Honestly do not recommend. Will not be coming here again and I wish I could get money back. read more

I've been here multiple times and the haircut has always been mediocre but the last two times I have gone really are grand prize winners for rude workers. I asked one stylist for a trim to get rid of my split ends and instead of cutting my hair in sections she cut the hair around my shoulders in a straight line and then called it a day. She did not pay any attention to my layers and when I got home I just trimmed all the split ends she missed. I figured it was just a bad stylist and I should give it another try. The most recent "incident" included a different stylist but did not include a bad haircut, she really did a nice job, but she was rude beyond belief!!!! I had my hair bleached over a year ago and now I am growing it out to it's natural color while trimming off the bleached parts as it grows longer. I loved my bleached hair I just don't wanna bleach again too fast. Once I sat down in the chair after the wash and she began trimming away she said "Wow.. so this bleach wasn't a very good idea now was it?" I was appalled! I told her that it was not a mistake and that I enjoyed it very much and plan on doing it again. She then claimed she could still smell the chlorine from the bleach in my hair. She downplayed everything I said and made me feel like I was stupid and didn't know how to take care of my hair. She also charged me $44 for a shampoo, cut, and blow-dry. I wish I would have gotten her name. She sure made it a guarantee that I will not be going to Fantastic Sam's again. read more

OMG! Don't go, don't do it... you'll be SORRY! They nickel and dime you for breathing in here. They don't honor appointments, they offer 1/2 off color with a FREE shampoo, (ever have color WITHOUT a shampoo???) Horrible place. Sneaky prices, nice stylists but management sucks! My "half price" color job cost me $60.00 without cut or blow dry. When I asked how it could be that high, they said, oh its lighter (NOT), long hair, etc. etc. Horrible experience. I had a horrible experience here. I walked in and was greeted by the happy owner and stylist. I was excited to color and dye my hair. Everyone was friendly and I expected a great job from an experienced hair dresser. Boy, was I wrong. I went to dye my hair and they screwed my virgin hair. They cut off 6 inches of previously dyed hair. This woman (Helga) goes to dye my hair. When she finished my roots and the rest of my hair, I realized that half of my hair was a completely different color. I am sitting there complaining while this woman desperately blow drys my hair trying to convince me it looks great. I kept telling her that the color didn't match and it was blotchy. My roots were 3 shades lighter than the rest. I spoke with the owner Bernadette. I agree to come in the next day for someone else to fix it. This next stylist plays with my hair trying to figure out what she can do. She explains that if I dont bleach my hair the color is never going to match but she'll try without bleach. (I'm not going to further damage my hair b/c their stylist made a mistake) My hair of course is not the same color all around but it's the closest she can get it without bleach. I was so angry I requested a full refund. But the owner stated she could only refund me the dye. I was okay with paying for my haircut because well it wasn't as bad. (She was scissor happy) When I received the refund the owner stated she charged for the cut style and blow dry. I got even more upset because I never got my hair styled and the only reason they blow dryed my hair was to prove that the color was "great." She agreed to refund me but Jesus, they damaged my hair by processing it 2x and I still had to go else where to color correct my hair and fix the cut. Worst experience ever!!!! The owner was helpful and the 2nd stylist Carol was a delight but could not fix the 1st error. If I would have seen a different stylist this would not be a negative review. She never failed to tell me what she was doing every step of the way. I feel sorry for the stylists working there. You can tell their manager is pushing the up-sells too hard - to the point it turns people away. Insisting on shampoo's so they can sell you the "tea tree" product after. The music in there was loud, like a bar, not normal background music. To top it off, the manager/owner changes the song midway through! The franchise is not a fancy salon. it has a great location with heavy foot traffic - they should focus on getting people in and out the door as quickly as possible. Don't let the upsell chase away customers that are there for the basics that you're overlooking. read more
