The efforts of Denver to revitalize their downtown appear to be paying off. I would hang out there more if we lived nearby (between heading out to Golden or the Red Rocks Amphitheater;)). They speak of these coordinates with such religious fervor that you arrive expecting a spiritual transformation, or at least a profound insight into the human condition. Larimer Square is an undeniably pleasant place, but the heavens remained firmly closed. The pamphlets do not lie about the aesthetics. It is handsome. There are beautifully restored Victorian brick buildings from the nineteenth century, and an overhead canopy of string lights that makes the pavement look like the staging area for a high-end commercial. It feels like a very clean, very efficient factory where postcards are manufactured for people who live somewhere else. The primary structural defect of Larimer Square, however, is that it is exactly one block long. You enter the historic district at 14th Street and, after an incredibly brief amount of leisurely bipedal motion, you arrive at 15th Street. And then you are entirely finished. If you rearranged your entire day to see it, you are left standing on the asphalt, blinking into the Colorado sun, wondering what an adult is supposed to do with the remaining twenty-three hours of the day. Allegedly it used to possess a bit of a local soul, the old-timers on the internet still mourn a legendary neighborhood institution called The Market that used to sell cake and coffee, but some corporate real estate equity firm from North Carolina bought the block a few years back. Now it feels like an outdoor museum where the artifacts happen to be expensive designer boutiques and highly exclusive, overcrowded restaurants. Furthermore, if you wish to park a motor vehicle anywhere near this singular block, the surrounding lots will happily charge you enough money to buy a small appliance. If you already have an upscale dinner reservation nearby, it is a perfectly lovely backdrop for a short stroll. But if another traveler tells you to restructure any part of your itinerary around it, I would advise you to preserve your energy. It is a very cute, potentially somewhat expensive, twelve-minute experience.

Its nice that even though it's a smaller outdoor shopping mall, they decorate with Christmas lights and mini trees here and there. So far, I've been to the Ku Cha, It's Sugar, and Hot Topic here but there's a CO souvenir shop for tourists, an H&M, Sephora, and a theater. Nice that they have free buses to and from here as well. Hopefully with the growing pains out of the way, there'll be more in the form of shopping, entertainment, and other food options in the future.

To describe Denver Pavilions today is very sad and tired, with only a handful of retail stores left, such as Sephora, Hot Topic, and H&M. I remember going to Forever 21 the last time I was here, but sadly they had closed. The rest of the occupants left are just restaurants, a movie theater, an arcade, and a bowling alley. I think maybe at least 75% of space was vacant, mostly on the second and third floor. The only places that I visited were IT'SUGAR and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. It was just not interesting being here at all. Also, the entire 16th Street Mall in front of it is all torn up and under construction, which can be a pain to access. Who wants to listen to all that loud construction noise while shopping/dining at an outdoor mall? Malls are becoming a thing of the past these days, which is sad but true. I guess some things are not as good as you remember before.

Be sure to grab a shop and sip ticket ($35) and be rewarded with fun libations, a shopping bag and swag to boot. Heirloom Baking was on hand for a cookie workshop ($20), several food trucks were available for grab and go yummies and THE RINK was open for post shopping ice skating fun. During the return of an item purchased online, the cashier was rude, impatient, and visibly irritated. At the time, there were no other customers present. I addressed his behavior by stating that he was being rude; I did not , insult him, or behave disrespectfully. After I thanked the cashier and stepped away to continue shopping, I observed the same cashier start helping another customer, and both of them began laughing and making derogatory comments about me. I returned to the counter to address this behavior, at which point the other customer began yelling at me, telling me to "behave better," completely unaware of the irony of his own actions. The involvement of other customers in a matter between a Nordstrom employee and me was inappropriate, unnecessary, and deeply unsettling. When I stepped outside the store to contact Nordstrom Customer Service, an individual named Justin approached me and introduced himself as the manager on duty. He immediately stated that the cashier who assisted me was the kindest and most polite employee in the store. He also referenced the existence of video footage. I asked whether he had personally reviewed the video, as his comments appeared to reflect a preconceived bias similar to that displayed by others involved. He acknowledged that he had not viewed the footage. I informed him that I intended to contact Nordstrom Customer Service, as this was not the first time I had felt humiliated at this location. I thanked him and left. While in my car, I contacted Customer Service and was treated professionally and respectfully; the representative demonstrated a high level of understanding regarding my experience. I have been a loyal Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack customer for many years and have shopped at locations across the country. I have never experienced treatment like this elsewhere. Unfortunately, this incident marks the third time I have felt disrespected and humiliated at this specific store. On a prior occasion, I spoke with the store manager, Mr. Matthew, whose response I found to be dismissive and arrogant. I clearly stated at that time that I would no longer shop at this location, but unfortunately, I did not respect my decision and my boundaries. Given the seriousness of this incident, I am escalating this complaint to higher levels. The conduct of both the employee and the customers who felt empowered to intervene without any factual understanding of the situation was inappropriate and raises concerns of a potential hint of discriminatory behavior. I was informed that video footage with audio exists, which I welcome being reviewed. I will not shop at a store where I am made to feel unwelcome, disrespected, or singled out. I choose to spend my money where I am treated with the same dignity and respect afforded to everyone else.
