The place is practically on the Mississippi River on the Il side across from Clinton Ia were I was hanging out. The place really sticks out from the neighborhood because it's red and black against a pale back drop. The place was smaller than it looked but it was packed with goodies from fresh meats, cheeses, sausages etc with a frozen side filled with homemade and not homemade items to cook at home. One thing that I always look for is the homemade meat sticks and anything jalapeño or hot will be my first choice, they had jalapeño and cheddar. I'm always bitching that if I want a real chicken fried steak I have to make it my self because virtually no one does because there the frozen crap, they have a homemade take home package of 4 that I snapped up but have yet to cook. The jalapeño and cheddar sticks were so on point with nice chunks of cheddar and jalapeños, dam I only bought one package. The take and cook country fried steak package finally got its turn and I must say that it was the best prepared take home frozen country fried steak I have had. They cook super fast and have a tasty crunchy batter with a tender moist center to my surprise. I'm really starting to hate my take a cooler while traveling to bring home items that I can't get where I live because there is great stuff out there and I'm probably never going to get them again because every trip is different. I would really like to come this way again and stop here so I could grab some more items. All in all this was another great county meat market that does what it does well and the whole reason that I now search them out when I'm away from home. I would definitely be a regular if I lived in the area and recommend stopping by if your in the area.

I told them I wanted my brisket and as many steaks and roasts as possible, and the rest could be burger. I went to pick it up, and they kept a ton of the meat. I ended up with exactly 151 lbs wrapped, no brisket, and 60 lbs of it was burger; that's a 111 lb loss. It's illegal to include all of the wrapping in the finished weight, and most of the roasts and all of the sirloins had massive bones in them; I lost over 30 lbs in weight just from bones, and yes, I weighed the bones after prepping the meat. I know all the wrapping doesn't weigh much, but it adds up with 60 lbs of burger, and every one of them was under 14 oz after removing the plastic and paper wrapping, and then 91 lbs of roasts and steaks that were wrapped with two or three times as much heavy plastic wrap and paper probably lost 35-40 lbs in total weight, not including, however, how much meat they fucking stole from me and my 3 friends that took the other ¾ of the cow, and none of them got their briskets. They tried telling me the average weight of a quarter cow is 150 lbs. That is true for a normal-sized 800 lb cow, but this one weighed 1048 lbs hanging weight, and the assholes charged for the finished wrapped weight, which is also illegal.

I went to school in Texas in the early 80s and when I moved back to the Lou I had forgotten tamales. We had grown up with some pretty shabby tamales, wrapped in paper, but good tamales were no where to be found. Now we have an abundance of Quality Mexican but I started making my own tamales 12 years ago. Very popular but a load of work to make 40-50 at a time and my unit cost exclusive of labor was about 2 bucks a Tamale. I tell you that so you know I take my tamales seriously. These frozen tamales are better than my fresh, home made tamales. Creamy masa and the the pork and chicken are really flavorful with or without any additional salsa. The caterer said they did not need a down payment but my daughter insisted on paying them $50.00 to ensure they held the date. Despite the food being good, there was several issues with them: 1) When my daughter went to talk with and book them, she wanted only one choice of meat. They were trying to keep costs as low as possible as they were paying for their own wedding and had just moved as well. The caterer kept insisting they needed two meats and finally gave them a discount per plate for two meats. (Of course this was still higher than the one meat option). It wasn't what they wanted but they agreed since she discounted the price. 2) They never seemed to know what was going on. My daughter called in the total guest count 2 weeks before the wedding. Two days later they called me asking about our appointment the next day. We live out of state and had never scheduled an appointment at all. She was quite confused by this. I asked her at the time for a total amount due to which she responded that she had not received a guest count. I was shocked as my daughter had told me she called in it. When I asked for a reminder on the per person price she had to go look it up and found the guest count that had been called in. She told me she was unable to provide a total at that time as it would take too long to figure out and to call back. (When we called back she still didn't have time to figure it out and we never found out the total until we stopped by to pay them.) 3) As part of the catering, we were to be provided with water and 2 drink choices which my daughter chose. They provided no drinks at all. When I asked the caterer she said she provided a "huge" discount and that she had simply forgot because it was booked so far out. (We turned in a sheet with all our choices on it.) Another worker came up to me on the dance floor asking what was wrong. When I told her she said they did not provide drinks. Ummm...two different stories from the same business and it was on the sheet we turned in!!! 4) The cake was on a separate round table. The caterer was in a panic about being able to cut it on that table. I told her just to take it over to the other tables. Not sure what the issue was but she finally did. They never did cut the tiered cake despite me telling them they could. 5) As stated above my daughter paid them a deposit. This was not discounted from the total price. When my daughter called they said to bring in the receipt and they would refund the money. I was back in the area and called to let them know I was going to stop. They told me the $50.00 was a fee for holding the date and was not refundable but the caterer was leaving on a job so I couldn't talk to her. I called back the next day and was given the same information. I told them it was NOT even asked for and it was a down payment as it stated on our receipt. She got angry but agreed to refund the money. When I told her I'd be in after an appointment she told me they closed at 2:00PM and hung up before I could say one word. Despite the food being good I would NEVER go with them again. I spent too much of my daughters wedding reception dealing with the caterers and then afterwards was treated EXTREMELY rudely! Not worth it at all!!!
